Let's say, hypothetically, I don't have a genuine copy of windows xp...now, lets say, hypothetically, that I'm planning on buying Windows Vista with my tax return...now, could I buy the upgrade and still have it work even though I dont have genuine xp, or am I going to have to buy the full version of it?

Full version, because vista comes with windows validation.
so, if you Hipothetically have a pirated copy ( hypothetically) your hypothetically up the hypothetical **** creek without a hypothetical paddle.
but very practically screwed.

ok, then I'm hypothetically going to have to borrow my friends genuine copy of windows xp home edition which he hasnt used since he started college and got pro for free...so hypothetically, I'm still fine :o

what say, hypothetically, you put the thread in the right forum? Oh, wait, there's no hypotheticals about it. Just do it.

it's not really tech support though, as i'm having no problems...although as far as I'm concerned you could have deleted it, I'm done with it :o

One option you have if you cant is

You could always copy your documents onto a slave drive or external HD, format the copied windows then install vista on a fresh system and wack your documents back onto the new system
