Agreed. Doesn't help that Refn's a hack. Seriously, Drive was one of the most pretentious, shocking boring, up-its-own-ass artsy excuses for a "noire" action film I've ever seen!Hmmm. The original is a helluva thing to live up to.

Go watch Only God Forgives and Neon Demon. Drive got me annoyed at him. The other two proved he's an overly-stylistic hack who cares more about style and artsy-ness than telling a good story.Lol.
That doesn't make one a "hack". That's a label that gets grossly misused on the internet.

Describe the word hack please...
It's just my opinion. You guys are free to disagree with me. I don't like the guy, you do. That's fine.I've seen all of his films. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a director who cares more about style and art. In the world of film it's just another way to tell a story then in your typical fashion that most go for.
Doesn't make him a hack. A hack is someone who rips off someone else's ideas without giving credit where it's due, OR a studio yes man only in it for the money. His films simply aren't for you or what you want or expect from cinema.
If you're asking me, look at this response to MOVIELORD.
No one is saying you have to like him or his movies. Just that "hack" is one of a lot of words that get incessantly misused on the internet. It's just my opinion. You guys are free to disagree with me. I don't like the guy, you do. That's fine.
I certainly wasn't misusing it. I don't even use that word all that often. No one is saying you have to like him or his movies. Just that "hack" is one of a lot of words that get incessantly misused on the internet.
