In an article in Wizard from a year ago, Favreau claimed Mandarin WOULD be in the first film. Is this still true. I'd like to see him to some capacity.

I'm pretty sure that they scraped that idea because it was difficult to modernize while keeping the fans happy, since I think they didn't want to be too close to the original because of cultural insensitivity and basic ludicrousness.

Hence why we have Iron Monger now.

Favreau has implied that the character would play a behind-the-scenes role in the first film and wouldn't become a physical presence until the sequel.

The Mandarim has a cameo setting his participation on future films, possibly in the last one.

The Mandarin is a behind the scenes character in the first film. Favreau has said that his role will be similar to Sauron's in the Lord of the Rings films.

He'll probably be either a weapons supplier for Stane, or the one who gives him blueprints for the Iron Monger suit.
Sorry if they're complete bull suggestions, but I've managed to keep away from plot spoilers and really don't see magic working, at least not in this Iron Man movie.

I hope they take a page from the current Iron Man comic book by the Knaufs.

Without a doubt the most subtle, yet effective and sinister take on the Mandarin ever.

Whats this mandarin like? I haven't read any current Iron Man

He's nothing like he used to be, more muniplative, the rings are now part of his body, he had them implanted in himself along his spin, now he can summon the power at will and not loss his rings as he had in previous stories.
The current take on Mandarin is very good.

sounds cool. I like mandarin but the guy did orginally have a sort of Fu Manchu, Ming The Merciless Oriental sterotype which is kind of out dated

Wizard has a history of making errors for upcoming films...Also, considering this was a year ago, I doubt it's still accurate with Mandarin having a "behind the scenes role" like some already mentioned and which has been confirmed.

Agreed.

Hey Armored Avenger, obviously the Mandarin will be in Iron Man 2, but didn't you also say at one point that Fin Fang Foom will be in the second one too?:woot:

I have read that Favreau wants the Mandarin to be the main villain for the sequel, and would like to find some way to include Fing Fan Foom.It is clear that Favreau really likes Fing Fang Foom, as not only has he said that he would like him to be in the sequel, but he is also in the Iron Man Viva Las Vegas mini-series that is coming out later this year, which has been written by Favreau

Well, since the Mandarin will be in the second one, he's the type of villain that will use a henchman of some sort, and Favreau probably also doesn't want it to be another armored villain just yet. You think?

We might get FFF going from being an alien(who happens to look like a mythical dragon as it is in the comics) to FFF being a construct/robot of some kind. How would you all feel about that change from comics continuity?

I think Tony Stark's cellmate (when he is building the first suit) is actually the Mandarin. I'm positive about that.

Wizard also claimed that the latest James Bond movie would be called 007 :p .

Wait, so the geeky guy with the glasses is going to be the Mandarin?

If Mandarin is in the movie, I kind of got the feeling it will be in a small capacity.

If Mandarin appeared in this film, this is what he'd be like. Well, maybe not the cat...

And I think a robotic Fing Fang Foom is a good idea.

That'd kind of be like combining Fing Fang Foom with Ultimo.

i think this would be better. i dont actually know really anything about Manderin but he has magic rings right? could he just conjure up FFF for like the final battle or something?

Actually they're alien tech. And FFF is a member of the alien race whose tech it belongs to. Mandarin discovered a crashed ship way in the outer-regions of China and from it he built his rings and other such stuff.

so could what i suggested work? Manderin could kind of summon a big dragon who looks exactly like FFF, or even turn himself into it. that way we get to see FFF on the big screen without it being cheesy or a robot

if there is an green alien in the sequel marvel will lose some fans that they will get with iron man this year.

this movie looks to be set in the real world. not as realistic as batman begins but with real villains.

how can you then do a sequel with an alien?
