A little on the film adaption of a book that Hollywood seemed to have "major interest" in. It's a story that takes place thousands of years ago, and would be a very different adventure film if being made. I think something like The Clan Of The Cave Bear mixed with Lord of The Rings. I just wonder how the villains will be portrayed. They are all evil sorcerers, but are they going to shoot energy beams (Harry Potter style) or will the characters be closer to the books and the magic be more subtle - the way they did in LOTR?

-20th Century Fox own the rights.
-Was to be produced by Ridley Scott.
-Director Catherine Hardwicke dropped out of the project to make Twilight.
-No script written yet.
-A rumour said that Ian McKellen will play The Walker a.k.a. Narrander.
-The possible film is put on hold, and has been so for some years.
-Talks are being made with producers and directors.
-Once planned to be shot in China.
-Both Scott and McKellen praise the book.

I find it very unlikely that this will span a lot of sequels, but I am happy with 1-2 films. Well, we won't see all of the Soul Eathers then, but maybe it's possible to give them screen time anyway, with scenes written exclusively for the film.
The thing with these evil characters is that they more or less get one book each as the primary bad guy. And during the last few books it seemed that every remaining soul eather was the main villain, as each got more evil and dangerous than the previous. That is a good thing with the books. It's like having a Captain Hook with magical powers, then a Voldemort, then a Saruman, then a Witch Master, then a Sauron.
By whatever the number of films we will get, bring on the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness!!!

There have been some complaints about the chosen country for the production, that Wolf Brother isn't supposed to be a "chinese" film.
But I don't see how the location have anything to do with the nationality of the characters. Using China only as the place to shoot the film couldn't be wrong. The country is big, and offers beautiful landscapes.

But fans get upset for so little.
I recall something Michelle Paver said, that the adventures of Torak and the others are taking place in the part of the world that's now eastern Scandinavia. I guess the only way to please the readers of the book series, is to shoot it in Finland and Sweden. And to be really true to the story, they should cast all the characters with sami actors.
