(Los Angeles, CA - October 29, 2008) – Nine months in advance of its box office debut, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” is already casting a spell over moviegoers, according to a just-released poll from MovieTickets.com.

In a survey conducted between Aug. 8 and Oct. 5, nearly 4,000 movie fans who had just purchased tickets at MovieTickets.com weighed in with their picks for the “most anticipated” films over the next 12 months. Rounding out the top three films generating the most interest over the next year were sequels “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

The MovieTickets.com Top-10 Most Anticipated Films

1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
4. Public Enemies
5. Angels & Demons
6. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian
7. The Informant
8. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
9. The Day the Earth Stood Still
10. The Taking of Pelham 123

MovieTickets.com consumers were asked to rank a list of upcoming films slated for release within the next year on a scale of 1-to-5, with 1 signifying they had little-to-no interest in seeing the film and a 5 meaning they had significant interest in seeing the film.

Among the key findings of the “most anticipated” poll:

  • Respondents ages 24 and under indicated that “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” was the film they were most interested in seeing
[*]Among 25- to 39-year-olds, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” topped the list
  • In the 40- to 59 and the 60-and-over category, “Angels & Demons” was No. 1

Top Three Films Among Males:

1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

2. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
3. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian

Top Three Films Among Females:

1. Angels & Demons
2. Public Enemies
3. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian

“These polling results provide very early, valuable insight into comparative long-lead moviegoer awareness and interest levels,” said Gary Hiller, president of MovieTickets.com’s Research and Analytics Division. “Marketing professionals, in particular, may find this data quite useful as it relates to the competitive release landscape over the next 12 months.”

In a 2007 MovieTickets.com poll on the same topic, consumers indicated their top-three most anticipated films to be: “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “The Dark Knight,” and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.” Each of the three films grossed over $450 million worldwide.

Wolverine is my most anticipated movie of 2009... looking at those top ten, 2009 doesn't look too impressive.

Really. There's not a lot there wowing me besides Wolverine. Angels and Demons maybe.....

Looks good, considering the fact that there hasn't been any big promotion for the movie yet.

2. Public Enemies
3. Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian

Really? Night at the Museum 2? which females did they interview?
I feel offended.
I agree with Public Enemies though.

Where's The Road, The Lovely Bones, Killing Pablo...etc etc..anyway... Yay! for Wolverine! :woot: I'm counting the days!

But why do these people know this movie is coming out? There's absolutely no trailers for it, no teaser poster, no nothing to garner interest fans outside of the comics?.

It's near my top 5 but I'm cautious, not surprised it is polling well though.

Hugh Jackman news... The title it's self if it was multiple choice.

Near your top 5? What could possibly be in your top 5? So far what I know of, I really have nothing to be excited about in 2009 accept Wolvie and maybe Transformers and possibly Friday the 13th.

Public Enemies, Terminator: Salvation, Shutter Island, Transformers 2, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek and Watchmen.

What is Public Enemies? I totally forgot about Terminator. No clue what Shutter Island is. Transformers, Sherlock, and Watchmen I'll see but not excited for. I never liked Star Trek... I never understood the appeal. My roommate tried to get me to watch it and I was bored out of mind.

Public Enemies

Shutter Island

I am not a Star Trek fan but JJ Abrams directing is why I am interested.

Both sound interesting. I need a trailer though. I'm not big into dramas.

I think the only thing by him I saw was Cloverfield. Yea yea I know about Lost. I just don't want to watch the show unless I start from the beginning.

This probably shows why including "X-Men" in the title was a good thing. Current interest for the film (among the average moviegoer) is based solely from their enjoyment of previous X-Men films. They see 'X-Men' in the title and are automatically intrigued, right?

It was a good idea for Fox to put X-Men in the title instead of calling it "Weapon X" or simply "Wolverine". When they say, "X-Men Orgins: Wolverine"... It makes it sound like a whole series is coming out.

Another Ice Age? Really?

And where are Watchmen and Star Trek on that list?

Not surprised that it's one of the most anticipated. As others have pointed out adding X-Men to the title was a good move that contributed to that, Hugh Jackman and Wolverine are a big draws plus the addition of fan favorites such as Gambit and Deadpool certainly hasn't hurt.

ROLF Why is Night at Museum being looked forward to so much? Was it that big of a hit? LOL.

Why is anything with Ben Stiller anticipated?

2009 looks weak. And where is Watchmen..? See, no one knows about that one (outside the comic book.. um, circle)

I am looking forward to Watchman, but that list looks more like the summer crowd, not for all year, no?

Ahhh could be, yeah--my bad, then

Night of the Museum was big with kid/family audiences. Not surprised that's polling well, either.

I don't care if this sounds mean... if there is one actor I could wish never to appear in another movie, its Ben Stiller.

I could be happy never seeing Adam Sandler again. :(
