Wolverine to join the MCU?

y'all thought that for a very long time with spidey, too. and now fantasy has become the reality

In fairness that was a completely different situation with a much more cooperative, and desperate, studio. Tough to really compare, The Fox X-men films are doing fine on their own.

true. if sony wasn't even hacked, this may not have happened. I guess that's one good thing (the best thing) to have come out of the hack.

Really? I never thought Spider-man would never return to Marvel. I knew Sony was at least open to the idea of Spidey in the MCU back 2012, with rumors of them wanting to put the Avengers tower in a background establishing shot.

I also knew the relationship between SONY and Marvel/Disney is a far more amicable than the relationship between the latter and Fox.

While I did not know for sure, I knew that the possibility of Spidey coming back to Marvel was a lot higher than X-men coming back to Fox.

Is the sentiment an impossibility? No. But the fact is that Fox has gotten X-men back of track. They do not need the MCU like Spidey does. There may come a time when Fox decides to mend with Marvel, but it may be a time when my spawn cares more about the stuff than I.

A lot of people did. And spidey isn't "returning" he's being shared.

And that's true, there's a ton of animosity between fox and disney for whatever reason, I think it involves merchandising, yeah? Wasn't there no toys made for dofp?

That may have tipped the scales in Marvel's negotiating power, but they have been discussing this for months. What the leaked emails show is that TASM2 was a disaster production wise and financially. They were willing to make a deal because Spider-man by far is their most valuable property, as they don't own the film rights to Bond, only distribution rights, MGM owns Bond.

He's not being shared. Sony gets nothing for Spidey being in the MCU films, marvel gets a percentage off the Sony films. Marvel retains all the merchandising profits. Marvel pretty much got what they wanted out of the deal, Sony possibly can live with the consolation prize that their character might be out of the dumps he was left in after TASM2.

Yes Sony still owns the film rights, but you can see how desperate they were to make this work.

they'd been discussing for months but the talks broke down, that's what the leak revealed. i think the actual leak is what prompted the higherups at sony to begin the talks again.

that's why it is constituted as sharing. the film rights anyways. disney wouldn't be able to use spidey in the mcu without having talked to sony first. has disney been getting money off of the spiderman films or was that a result of the deal? if it is the latter... I think sony should be getting something from the disney movies that spidey is in. they're gonna go under unless the spidey films constantly make more money. like, a lot more.

I don't doubt it turned the tables, and could have accelerated things. I think a deal would have been reached because anyone could see how badly they devalued the property and this is Sony's most important franchise.

This is where the leaked emails surely did play a part. This is a weak deal for Sony. But no they get nothing for the MCU films featuring Spider-man, and they get no merchandising revenue.

Sony is a desperate company right now, as a movie studio. They have very little marketable IP. For 2014 they only have 12.2% of the market yet they had 19 films released that year which was second most only to Warner Brothers. Disney had 15.6% of the market, yet they only released 13 films in 2014 which was the least among the major studios. Meaning that Disney is maximizing their profits off fewer films, meaning lower production costs and higher revenue, and Disney didn't even have a Pixar film in 2014.

i'm glad that the deal happened. I thought sony would be delusional enough to NOT play nice with disney but if the leak did have a part to it happening, then it's kind of a good thing it happened.

I know, and it's sad. I appreciate sony because i love playstation, and in my opinion they make the best tvs. it makes me sad to see they're going under, but they have done a lot of dumb things to get themselves in this position.

and, what you're saying is only further proving my point. with spiderman being their most valuable property, they're putting all their eggs in this basket. hopefully the box office is big, as well as (good) critical reception.

Wolverine and X-Men need to stay at Fox for the foreseeable. I think even some diehard Marvel Studios fans will agree with that. They had them for 15 years with lots of investment from the general public.

The current version of X-Men wouldn't fit with the MCU and I don't think the general public is even close accepting a Wolverine that is not played by Hugh Jackman.

X-Men should return or Fox should strike a deal with Marvel when its time to reboot. Probably in another 10 years or so.

Wolverine just screwed up the timeline. None of the MCU events happened.

But you quoted me, so I thought I would make my position clear.
so when I said y'all, I assumed you were among the majority. my bad my head is in the clouds

That doesn't change what I said.

it kinda does. this thread is a topic now because of the spiderman banzanza, and that happened not with spidey returning to marvel, [BLACKOUT]even if this is the first step for disney to do that.[/BLACKOUT] so if wolverine were to happen the same way, it would be fox sharing wolverine, not him being back to marvel.

I'd be open to just Wolverine making an appearance in the MCU, but nothing much else X-Men related. As long as he doesn't overshadow the other Avengers etc.
