EUCLID -- Resident Dorothy Richardson, 76, said she was defending herself when she beat to death a 25-pound fawn that was crouched in her flower bed, then stuffed the fawn's body in a cardboard box and put it out on trash day.

A widow, she said she has been defending her garden against deer for years and this time took a shovel and beat the fawn until it died.

She said the fawn's eyes contacted hers, like he was going to jump and bite her head off.

Euclid City Councilman Christopher Gruber says Richardson told him something different.

Gruber says Richardson said she hit it once and, according to her, it screamed and she hit it two more times, then she said that what she wanted to do was put it at the end of the yard so the other deer know not to mess with her.

Gruber is now a witness in the animal abuse case against Richardson. If convicted, she faces up to 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

:whatever: what a idiot, unless it's a mutant fawn it can't bite her head off

That's a ridiculous excuse, but it shows just how sad it is when people are just terrified of any animal.

I hope she gets convicted, then again she is really old...so I dunno. I mean she is old...really old....where you get scared of big bird old.

What the hell is up with old people growing balls and beating **** up lately?

old people have been standing their ground recently...

They are actually prosecuting her for this?

I mean...REALLY?

Ridiculous.

Being old isn't an excuse. And 76 isn't really old.

Ridiculous.

So you don't think people who beat animals to death for no good reason should be punished? Michael Vick would be glad to hear that.

Not really, it's just a fawn and wasn't hurting her as she claims, she just pissed it was in her flower bed.

Hopefully they hit the old ***** over the head a few times with a shovel.

If I saw an old woman beating a defenseless fawn with a shovel, I would curb stomp her ass.

Looks like Bambi's revenge has failed. Humans-2, deer-0

Sure it is - it's all about intent. A 76 year old lady is far more likely to be scared and intimidated by a live animal than a 20 year old guy.

Yes, because the two cases are so similar. One is an old lady...in the dark..confronting a wild animal...the other is a twenty-something year old NFL football pro funding a large dog fighting operation including feeding beagles to dogs so they gain a taste for blood.

I mean how many people run into deers on the side of the road? Should they be prosecuted? This is a deer, not an endangered species. This is one instance, not a history of animal cruelty.

You gotta work in a Schwarzenegger or Stallone cameo in there somewhere.:hehe:

If my grandma was to see a fawn in her garden and she's 80, she would just try to shoo it off it call animal control.

Or forget about it 5 minutes later because of Alzheimers.

@E-Man: Stallone voiced the shovel
Arnold was the Mayor.

Running into a deer on the road is completely different, this woman killed with intent on a harmless animal, IMO if she was in a perfectly stable piece of mind then she should be punished.

I simply cannot believe she was scared of a 25 lbs fawn sleeping in her garden. REALLY?! She might as well have beat down a 1 year old toddler, they are about equally as dangerous.

1) Those are accidents, this (from the facts presented) was not.
2) You're talking about a 200 lbs buck that could gore or stomp you literally to death vs. a 25 lbs fawn that would either run when you got too close or simply be too scared and sit there and yell.

Endangered species or not, if it went down like the witness is suggesting, that's animal abuse. Dogs, Cats, Horses, Cows, and any other household pet are not endangered either, but a person doing this to one of them would easily constitute animal abuse.

Being scared or intimidated is not sufficient reason to brutally kill an animal that has done nothing; especially when the animal in question is not the kind to be aggressive.

One is an old lady...in the dark

Where does it say that?

I mean how many people run into deers on the side of the road? Should they be prosecuted?

Are those instances intentional? For the most part, no.

However, the instance we're talking about is dealing with inentional harm to an animal without sufficient cause.

This is a deer, not an endangered species. This is one instance, not a history of animal cruelty.

Would you let someone go scot-free when caught after committing their first robbery?

How do you kill a FAWN and be able to sleep at night?.....you must be evil
