Not bad... not bad, and if Fleischer is doing JL then I could see her being in the running...

what does that even mean? and then you go and post a pic of her as a brunette? better black hair. gtfo.

My choices would be (for movie) -

Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Taylor Cole.

Gemma Arterton.

Project862006: Lynn Collins is one of the best suggestions out there. Not everybody understand that. They can only see in one direction at a time

Some people can see in two directions at a time. We call those people: cross eyed. :-p

She was in season 2 of HUMAN TARGET and has a new show MADE IN JERSEY. And oh yeah, she was in an episode of SKINS. Pretty memorable.

If they're serious about the CW series then it has the sort of potential to be the next Babylon 5. I'd be keen on seeing how they show Hippolyta or some of the other "mature" Amazons -- Philippis could be Diana's good mentor, kind of like Alfred but of course with a very different dynamic; and they could really bring in Nu'Bia! If Themyscira's depicted as a sort of real-world nation that stands on separatist principles, i.e. not willing to cooperate with the UN members and not allowing anyone else on her soil, the international tension would be real intense (think Iran), culminating with a season that ends when Steve Trevor, an American patriot and pilot, "crashes" on Paradise Island.

Season 2 picks up and explores "The Contest" and you have so many ways to go about it it's just sheer brilliant.

If WB's serious about this, then they could take the origin/background established in the show with a relatively young Diana and then just leap onto a film. Batman Begins would've felt better as a TV series anyway, with The Dark Knight being the definitive movie. The chances were wasted on Smallville and Superman Returns (it didn't help that both kinda stunk down the line), but maybe... JUST MAYBE...

A) I've never had a more productive discussion on SHH before. Certainly I've had positive discussions, and large discussions, but this is my first that is both, so thanks for that.
B) I think the maternal take on the gods can be an interesting texture, but because of it's nature as both mythological and feminist it will fail to capture the imagination of most of the audience. But I agree it should be there because even though that kind of texture can't make a movie good, but it can make a good movie great.
C) Still don't see how the maternal slant relates to the physical nature or exposition about the gods, but we get to that later anyway.
D) I definitely agree she should have an ambassador's spirit, but the idea of fighting poverty, war and famine isn't really what ambassadors do. Like you said, it works so well because on an archetypical level, she's actually battling the incarnations of these things. What she should be is, imho, a self made goddess, who is an ambassador from one abstract concept (Wonder Woman...ness) to another (humanity), and therefore not an 'ambassador' in title at all.
E) I would want the gods basically spelled out in the beginning, and I would want Diana to balk at that in justified disbelief, and I would want them to be revealed to be notably different than what they were introduced as, and have that twist/revelation something built up to in the film. That way we have a clear line on what we're dealing with and we have the furthest distance from someone who is skeptical of the goddesses (instant audience identification) and joins with the thoroughly disbelieving Han Solo-ish Steve Trevor to someone who basically is a goddess and causes others, including Steve to believe. The divide between these gods and humanity is only a suitable focus if there is such a divide. With gods being a codependent product of humanity, she is dealing with humanity in an way that is no longer just metaphorical. These beings really do represent humanity, and their entire struggle is over humanity. They are, essentially, a living debate. After all, in reality, myth is, by and large, the product of humanity, thus the whole thing resonates even louder, I believe.
F) I like your notes about the Lasso and pretty much agree with all of it, I didn't read all the papers, but I get it. I never understood why the axe was pitched as a feminine weapon, but the lasso works marvelously on that level, especially on the level that it can ensnare and disarm a sword very easily. I don't think it by itself allows her to wear anything, because at the end of the day, men are still dressing her, and an action hero having her butt cheeks and breasts hanging out still won't fly, but it does make it clear why she's wearing something an athlete might wear, because her fashion is not informed by modesty or formality, but her own goals and drives: athleticism, exploration, impetuousness.

Thanks for the kind words Doc :) the potential for the character is enormous and it's being wasted everywhere. I know we all have our personalised WW movie in our heads and a distinct way we want to see it being made, but certain tenets of the character--I believe--should stand strongly even with distinct interpretations. The core of the character, so to speak. It's easy for Batman: a noir-detective, and I think it's easy for WW as well, people just don't see it because of otherwise superficial reasons (a female action hero / a babe in a bathing suit etc.)

Overall, I like what we've come up with. Diana is the skeptic on an island full of radical believers. She meets another skeptic, she escapes her burdensome home to find a more burdensome world, and in it, while trying to find her way, she discovers the power of humanity, as manifested in the gods, and she taps into this power and saves the world from the worst of humanity (war) by representing the best (love). She conflicts with her mother's separatist radical feminist views (war masquerading as love), which are based on her entirely maternal view of the gods, and Steve's overprotective stubborn modern skepticism (love masquerading as war) based on his utter dismissal of the gods. It's incredible how much it sounds like the '09 DTV, really, but I guess it works. -shrug-

There's one thing I would not agree with a skeptical Diana from the beginning though. I firmly believe that Paradise Island should be Paradise Island. A Utopia; not a kind of fundamentalist nation where the people feel trapped (i.e. don't make it out to be the opposite of Saudi Arabia and by that token, very much like Saudi Arabia -- and I'm not trying to be offensive towards anyone, it's where I grew up so :P). That's one of the gripes I've had with the '09 DTV. You can still show Diana being a skeptic and progressively conflicting against her mother's philosophies (it makes sense that she'd participate in that contest) but that doesn't mean Hippolyta should be written out as some fascist queen ruler. I just think people ought to be a bit careful when considering the Amazons -- they're feminists, but the greatest misconception about feminism seems to be that they're chauvinists. It's not. Feminism doesn't simply mean matriarchy -- feminists don't make a utopia based on FEMININITY, they do it based on gender-equality, and ultimately on HUMANITY.

You can argue that this is what Diana strives for and accomplishes in the end, but that's still a point that should be made in the movie, as its end or otherwise.

As long as they take the source material seriously. Thats what Nolan did with Bats , Synder is apparently doing with Supes, the people working on Arrow... She has a very rich history to draw from. But I think they have to have story with the rules firmly established in the pilot. If the gods are supposed to be like they are in Immortals for example, then they shouldn' t be as they are represented in Clash of the Titans. I could it as she being an ambassador and the gods are only behind the scenes like in Immortals, but because of her sspecial abilities/birth, she is the only one who can actually see them , so she knows what's coming and what machinations some of the more malevolent ones have planned for humanity.

Given it's meant to be her early days, I think creatively, a younger actress would be more ideal.

i like the maturity look because it is easier to buy them as a warrior when the naturally look tough like how xena and even lynn as dejah looked mature and tough
xena01.jpg
lynn-collins-dejah-thoris.jpg

bale and cavill are early days with their respective roles but they both also had that mature look to them

But... origin. You want her mature when she's supposed to be just starting out? I mean, I feel you on the toughness, but who cares if she looks tough if the story is weak? And if the story is good, perhaps people will like her for more than just breaking skulls... might even inspire them to make a high quality movie about her rather than a low budget butt-kicking-woman movie.

Bale and Cavill are playing characters who have spent a decade putzing around before they become what they are. We are catching this character at the beginning of that decade, so a younger actress is better than a more mature one who will look dumb trying to find herself, and possibly old in five to ten years after the character actually does.

Really liking the idea of Olivia Wilde for this role.

Gemma is a movie actress, she wouldn't do a TV show at this point. Also, she does look like a woman, and therefore would look a bit silly as someone who spends 5 years trying to find themselves and figure out what kind of hero they are/are going to be. She's my first choice for a film, but she's not right for a TV show with the origin in long form.

Diana has not always been a mature woman, y'know. They're telling the story of who and what she is before she matured, so a mature actress would be a miscast.
