Both mark a significant turning point in representation within CBMs. Which film did you like more?

Interesting that both movies are also top contenders for worst final fight in a superhero movie ever. :o

Wonder Woman herself was great as were the Amazons and Steve Trevor but overall I'll definitely go for Black Panther.

pitting the underrepresented people lead movies against each other?

what kind of white tom foolery is th... /s

Putting this poll during opening weekend? You know better than that. I'd love t see how another poll would go in six months after Black Panther is on Blu-ray.

I was just thinking the same! :yay:

I like both and I think they're fairly comparable quality-wise, but I ultimately have to give the edge to Black Panther.

It's nice to see the Internet come together and force two films with minority leads against each other. Brings a tear to my eye.

Yep, really don’t get the point in putting a brand new movie against an older one as if they are both good the newer one will win more often than not.

Tough choice though, would need to see BP again before voting. Both very good CBMs.

BP I'd say though neither of these movies blew me away.

I mean, you guys can vote now, or vote 6 months from now, but what's really pointless is coming to this thread just to cry (for lack of a better word) about the timing of it. Some people don't need 3-6 months to decide if they like one better than the other.

I preferred Wonder Woman. The story is better, and there are more iconic moments. Both are great films though. Neither are stone cold classics, though.

But are a little overhyped but really good movies I would never call overrated. Too soon to call. Both are 7.5/10, both missing out slightly at being ‘great’.

I think when we (hopefully) have a lot more female and black led movies, then these two won't be regarded as quite the classics some are interpreting them as at the moment. Totally understandable that they are, but both suffer from a lot of flaws when purely spoken about as movies, divorced from their cultural significance.

Wonder Woman is way overrated and horribly mediocre. Black Panther is the better movie.

Wonder Woman. I didn't love either movie.

when people say this do they mean overrated by critics, the GA or both usually? edit: for ww

Blade did all this way before. BP is way over hyped.
When did Blade have a majority black cast with a massive budget and break numerous ticket and box office records? It didn't and you know that. You still can't accept that WB can't make a decent connected cinematic universe.

They're both great films, but I feel like Wonder Woman was more efficiently made and aside from the very end, the CGI in Wonder Woman was better. Also, I liked Wonder Woman's score a lot better and the love story between Diana and Steve was better developed than T'Challa/Nakia.

Black Panther would win this poll regardless of when it went up.

Blade did what first?

A black lead in a superhero film, according to batfreakforever. :whatever: Which even that isn't true if you include Spawn. But neither of those have African culture so ingrained in them as Black Panther does.

Anyway, back to the topic, I'd give it to Black Panther, though I think Diana was a stronger lead character in Wonder Woman than T'Challa was in BP but that's because his supporting characters stole the show from him. That was a problem that WW didn't have because besides Steve, the supporting characters weren't that interesting. And Killmonger and even Klaue were much stronger villains than any of the D-listers in WW. But I'll also say that the romantic subplot in WW was stronger than BP because it was developed more. I enjoyed both, but I give the edge to Black Panther.
