Just how insane is the record-setting waterslide currently being erected at the Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark? Let's just say they didn't name it Verruckt (that's German for "insane") for nothing.

Dubbed "the world’s tallest, fastest and most extreme waterslide," the VERRUCKT MEG-A-BLASTER will reportedly "tower" over the current tallest waterslide — Brazil's 134.5-foot tall "Insano."

The final height will be formally announced once construction has been completed.

Not insane enough for you? You might think differently once you're "speed sliding" down the Verruckt at over 65 miles per hour with three of your buddies.

That's right: The Meg-A-Blaster is a four-person raft slide with an extra hump thrown in for good measure.

Announced last year and originally slated to open this year, the project is now expected to be completed in time for Opening Day 2014.

"This new MEG-A-BLASTER speed-slide is going to wow our guests and is going to be a game changer for our industry," Schlitterbahn co-owner Jeff Henry said in a statement. "Our greatest challenge will be to find thrill seekers brave enough to ride."

Now I like fast rides and roller coasters and all but this is a bit much. I don't think there is any way in hell I would ride that thing. It's all fun and games until somebody dies

I think they need to raise the sides on this thing about 10-20 feet! Maybe flare it out as you go airborne over that hump!

This looks way too dangerous. Going at that speed, you're bound to go off the edge. The sides of it look far too low and unsafe.

What a bunch of wusses... Now excuse me while I'm off to the bouncy castle, wearing helmet and pads.

Next there will be a waterslide from the top of the Burj Khalifa.

LMFAO, I give it a day (maybe grand opening) before there's a serious injury or death.

I don't know if they've thought the physics through on this ride very well.

Given this height I think there will only be death. No one will be seriously injured. It's either live or die on this thing.

I don't like that my only 2 options are live or die for a freaking ride I'm supposed to have fun on

This slide is just an accident waiting to happen.

65 mph and you're not even in a vehicle... I'd ride this thing only if there was a guarantee you wouldn't literally slide off it and into the ground.

Hard to say for sure, but it looks like the side walls increase in height further down the slide, which makes sense - the faster you go, the more stability you need, plus the added friction of the higher walls (assuming the sled portion touches the walls) would help keep speed slightly controlled.

Accidents definitely do happen, but a water slide is about as simple as you can get. Even then, I'm sure engineers have done plenty of tests and accounted for as many variables as possible. You don't make any money if (too many) people die on your ride and you gotta close it down.

None of this is to say I'll be going anywhere near this thing, though.

I am so going to ride that thing...

as soon as I am diagnosed with a terminal illness.

I'd be worried less about the walls and more about momentum once you reach that second drop. I could see somebody getting some good air time and possibly falling off at an angle. When I was a kid, I rode on a damn theme park water slide and got crazy air time before getting slammed back down. Not fun.

I'd try it. I think it'd be fun. They have something similar here on a much smaller scale.

At least they should put some water all around it so that if you do slide off you fall into the water. But I doubt they'll do that as it will take away the fear factor, plus how are they going to get something that high to contain all that water?

Actually hitting water from that height is more like hitting concrete than the dirt although I don't think it would make much difference in the end.

For me to try that, it would have to be on a much, much, much, smaller scale. Like a 3-foot drop.
