With the Oscars upon us, and the frightening possibilty (;)) of Little Miss Sunshine winning Best Picture, it's time to take a look back at the first half of this decade and the group of Best Picture winners that have sparked heated debates.

Which of these five was the least deserving and why?

(For the sake of common sense, Return of the King has been omitted):

Considering the best movie made in a certian year rarely wins best picture anyways, I would say Chicago

But you could probably go in ever year, and the best movie released that year did not win Best Picture

This year, it might possibley happen

Chicago, highly over rated piee of crap.

I wasn't a big fan of Chicago.

I even don't mind musicals ether

and I really didn't like Chicago

Having not seen Chicago, I feel unfit to judge it's quality. Of the rest, Gladiator is the only one where I was really annoyed that it won. I thought Brokeback should have beaten Crash, but I did really like Crash... Gladiator, on the other hand, I thought was dull middle-of-the-road trash. A very bland film dressed with A-list talent behind the scenes (Although the effects were astonishly hokey - Couldn't believe it won the effects Oscar...). I think any other year it would have lost, but 2000 wasn't a fantastic year in film.

probably chicago, since it was just some dumb musical,

a beautiful mind and crash are my favorite movies,

MILLION DOLLAR BABY. Horrible, horrible movie.

How's this for a pitch? Let's redo Rocky, and as he triumphs over all odds by going the distance with Apollo Creed, he shouts "Yo Adrienne" and searches the crowd for his lover. As she scurries through the crowd and gets right into his grasp, Apollo Creed jumps up from behind, puts an unsuspecting Rocky in a head lock and breaks his neck. Apollo suffers no consequences, and we finish the third act with Adrienne sitting at his bedside as a quadriplegic Rocky gets bedsores, gets gangrene and has his limbs amputated. He begs Adrienne, "Yo Adrienne, do me in", she refuses so HE EATS HIS OWN TONGUE!!! Then he's all hopped up on sedatives and does the terry schiavo thing for a bit, driving Adrienne to euthanizing Rocky!!! Roll credits.

chicago what a peice of crap.

I thought I was the only one who hated it. I have no Idea why people thought it was so good. It was filled with generic stereotypes, such as the "magical negro", the "lovable ******", the "scampy underdog", the "crusty manager" and the "redneck family". Reason #105 that the Academy Awards are a joke.

Well, either CRASH or MILLION DOLLAR BABY. Both are just really mediocre films.

CHICAGO didn't deserve to win, don't get me wrong, but it was far from a bad movie. One of the best movie musicals ever made, and it was damn entertaining.

Out of the five on the list, I've watched Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind.

I like them both.

I'm not interested in the others

A Beautiful Mind is overrated.

It's a pretentious, bloated piece of crap.

Waitaminute.

I forgot Crash was on the list that movie sucks much worse than a Beautiful Mind. :down

Where is 2003?

Anyway, Chicago sucked. Crash is the best.

damn... if it's not an overrated piece of melodrama, it's an overrated piece of "shouldn't be anywhere near a list of best movies of the year".

well done, Academy, you never disappoint.

Crash was such a piece of trash.

I hate MDB more, but that's just a personal preference. Crash was pathetic.

I didn't care for Chicago..I loved Million Dollar Baby and Crash though,I liked A Beautiful Mind, but didn't love it.Gladiator was alright, but not much else came out that year.

Chicago, easily. :down

I loved A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, and Crash.

Chicago was VERY GOOD. People jsut can't appreciate the artform of the musical anymore.

Now if I had to say just one movie, MILLION DOLLAR BABY. I think Crash is overrated and not a classic by any means, but it is still a good movie (albeit Munich, Capote, Goodnight and Good Luck, Syriana and even The Matador were better that year)....

BUT Million Dollar Baby was not a very good movie. It uses Easstwood's patented darkly lit heavy handed "character angst" but while it worked brilliantly in Unforgiven and Mystic River and was still pretty damn good in Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, here it was just meh. The whole story is uninvolving and distant.

The reason the movie won best picture was because of the controversial ending, which while sad is still heavy handed and in my opinioin bordering on Lifetime movie-quality (certainly is when her family comes and "visits.).

In short Million Dollar Baby was not a very good movie, and why that beat THE AVIATOR Scorcesse's best movie in the last decade (and that includes the Departed) is beyond me. Other than the Academy has it hard for Clint and is sso used to ****ing Scorcese over, they said "one more year, then."

Sorry, certain years really annoy me (another for example being when Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan or Titanic beating LA Confidential). Okay.

Oh btw where's Return of the King?

And don't say "It's so good it gets a free pass," because I know a lot of people who think both Mystic River and Master & Commander were better that year. ROTK should not get a free pass because it is a geek movie.
