I was going through some of my old comics and came across some titles that were waaaaay over-hyped. So, just let others know of comics you remember that didn't live up to expectations.

All-Star Batman and Robin

Of course, this is one of the most obvious.

Dark Knight Strikes Back

Another obvious one.

Doom's IV

This is the one I came across the other day. Nobody knew a single thing about this comic...it was hyped forever before it finally got released (I think it was even hyped as a cartoon at one time)...and, four issue mini came out and nothing else. I think everyone sees the word, "Doom," and instantly marked out to yet another Image title.

Oh there's so many. Wouldn't it be easier to just do a thread that was, "comics that lived up to the hype"

But to continue this thread, I think the biggest one of all would be Youngblood. Oh man that was awful. And is it any coincidence that so far, two books you've named are from Frank Miller? Easily the most overrated writer out there. Sure he had some good things but really, he's not very good.

The biggest shock is that it had three volumes, plus Team Youngblood and Youngblood Strike File. Not including other specials, like Youngblood:Year One, it had a total of 60 issues devoted to crap.

Although, when Liefeld broke away (got fired) from Image, he tried his old tricks with the Awesome line. Not sure how it ended up dying so bad; but, most of those issues were only 1 or 2 issues long. Those titles are quite costly to get, probably only because nobody really bought them or were interested.

So basically, all we've managed to come up with is Frank Miller penned Batman stories and 90's Image books? C'mon guys, dig a little deeper.

Punisher

A four-issue miniseries that saw The Punisher finally make a return, but as a deceased Punisher resurrected as a supernatural agent of various for various angels and demons. This was truly awful.

Bernie's artwork was great, though.

And as far as overhyped comics go, I'd include all of Heroes Reborn, and pretty everything with the Top Cow logo on it.

anything to do with this guy

back in the day, X-Force was way overhyped. its lack of substance (and liefeld art) caught up to it quite quickly

Civil War.
What a disappointment. It was so anticlimactic. And has completely turned me off from getting Marvel comics. After an amazing event like House of M, written by a man who I think is a hack and got lucky on HOM, they come out with a disappointing event that has almost completely ended the fun I had in the Marvel Universe.

They've tried resurrecting X-Force a few times, but it was no use. X-Force is a little like Guns 'N' Roses (no insult to GNR intended): It was something that was really cool for a while, but is gone now.

When I think of overhyped books, the first one that springs to my mind is John Byrne's Spider-Man: Chapter One. The Giant Head finally showed his true colors. Fortunately we had Bendis come along and do Byrne's job for him with Ultimate Spider-Man, and all was well. :)

I wouldn't add a comic like Civil War. It is still a well received comic. But, Spider-Man: Chapter One was one humongous failure. That's definitely the kind of comic I'm thinking about.

Speaking of Spider-man, we shouldn't forget the Other storyline. Good lord that was stupid.
To me, Civil War was overhyped. It's pretty comic, and well-written for the most part, but the ending was just so blah. And I hate what they did to Speedball.:cmad: I hope he returns to the way he was, or at least partially.

civil war
HOM
The other

any superhero book by bendis
Bendis has his moments. I thought HOM was really good comic with a great climax. But I hate what he did in some of New Avengers (The storyline where Magneto was "killed" was just horrendous), and Ultimate Spider-man is pure crap. I like the Kitty/Peter relationship, and planned on starting to read it, but the Deadpool storyline really turned me off. I hate how he goes back and changes the things that he started.

Civil War
Indentity Crisis

(I don't think either are really the worst, but they were way over-hyped)
