Most of us probably remember that the Al Gough-Miles Miller-David Hayter Iron Man scripts gave had Tony Stark deal with father issues, and that Hayter made Howard Stark the villain in his draft. I think that Jeff Bridges may be playing Howard Stark in Favreau's film because the description of his role sounds like the character. Would it bother you if this is the case and that Tony Stark may deal with his father in some way. I'm thinking that maybe Howard Stark will appear only in flashbacks and the effect he had on Tony will be a story point. Would it bother you if this were the case?

as long as its not the MAIN story point no
howard can be on SI's board of directors as he was in the animated movie

I agree with 3dman27, if he's in a limited role I can live with that, but if he's the main villian like he was in the New Line script than no, that's not Iron Man, but like I said, even though Howard Stark died long before Tony became Iron Man, I could live with Howard being directer of the board or something like that.

I liked the way they handled in the animated film... classic son wants to do better than the father, and the father being overprotective but caring... so, business rivalry- of a sorts- but not really.

In flashbacks, go for it. I really don't want to see 30-something Tony with daddy issues, though. There's enough drama to be had in an alcoholic, billionaire weapons designer turned superhero who needs a chest plate to live without adding clichéd father issues to the mix.
