I was in my apartment today having a good time bagging my comic books. I suddenly hear the familiar sound of my landlord knocking from door-to-door to collect rent (he never sets a time or day for collection). I leave my apartment to get cash from the ATM around the corner.

On my way downstairs, I run into my landlord who is standing next to an opened door where another resident named ''Al'' hibernates. Al's apartment is directly below mine.

My landlord explains that Al is upset because he's been hearing noises from my apartment at 7am over the past couple of days. I reply to Al directly and I say ''That's because people have to get ready for work, sorry Al''.

Al didn't like that answer and stressed that he heard the sounds of metal hitting the floor. On three occasions he complained that my girlfriend and I were building things at night. This is an odd complaint because the apartment so small, nothing could be built or added to the room for decoration.

I told Al that he is pissing me off with his bizarre complaints. I then turned to my landlord and explained that I had half of the rent with me, but I just need to go to the ATM to get my half of the rent.

I arrive back five minutes later and my landlord is exiting my apartment. He says that Al complains about almost everything and that its best to just ignore him.

The thing that struck as odd was, why the hell was my landlord in my apartment???? He does enter at times to collect rent if I'm away, but he had no business entering at this time. I recall one day I came home to find the toilet seat up with piss in it.

Don't get me wrong, he is a nice man, but it rubbed me the wrong way that he entered as if to confirmed metal pieces laying all over the floor.

Would you be down with this?

its really his room so he could do what he wants you now? I wonder what if your girlfriend was taking a shower or something I just don't understand why they have to barge into our apartments without our permission.

In Ontario, Landlords are Required to give you 24 hours written notice before entering your apartment.

There are exceptions to the rule (emergency, tenant leaving and landlord wishes to show apartment [must be done between 8am & 8pm]).

I don't know where you live, but you might want to find out what your local landlord & tenant act says on the matter of privacy.

where I live they can legally walk in legally, whenever they feel like it. My landlord is pretty cool though. He never comes in without my permission.

One time we were having special time when he knocked and began to open the door after 10 seconds. I rolled and tossed on my pj pants; got to the door in time. His response was "bit early for bed?".

Lol. Bit early for bed. Who is he your dad? I'm usually in bed while the sun is still out.

I highly doubt that. I know that Landlord/Tenancy laws vary from state to state, but a landlord having to give notice before walking into a rented space is usually the norm.

That is something I must check out.

Are you living in Dublin? I just checked and a landlord needs your permission to enter your apartment. Call him out on it next time.

I'd buy a chain lock for the door.

Is this normal with friends/family that rent? I am a landlord for a 10 unit complex in California and I have never entered one of the inhabited units unless there is a major problem. Rent is due on the first with a 5 day grace period. Your story sounds insane to me and I would no way be down with it.

I can't stop laughing.

You're unaware of the local tenant/landord laws...which is fine.

However, you have to assume that some type of law exists.

Unless you live in North Korea or the woods.

You have to make that assumption.

He is not allowed to do that.

It's basic rights.

I'd buy 2 Chainz.
