i guess we all watch movies and say to ourselves that we'd change certain things about the story or the movie in general. what would you change? i'd change the fact that zod killed jor-el. it didn't seem like it needed to be there. i'd also show the kent's reaction to finding clark in the field.

Better CGI in certain parts & cut back a little on the action, and I mean little.

For one thing not shoot it with such a gloomy filter.

In retrospect, I don't think Zod was the best choice for the first villain.

Superman as a man, but super. Not just one Kryptonian searched by several other Kryptonians.

Not really. I thought Zod was a great 1st villain and I liked the film and the directions it took. If I really had to add more, I'd establish Clark as more of a silent savior among the people, think Red-Blue Blur from Smallville. Basically have more scenes like the Oil Rig sequence where this random guy always shows up saving people. As well as that have more flashback sequences. Although I liked the Zod fight, it does mean that the possibility of doing a Superman/Doomsday fight in the future might end up being moot as we already got that kind of fight, so maybe change up the Zod fight somehow or do something different if they ever want to bring in Doomsady for a future movie.

Slow the pace of the film down around the middle, at present the whole film is a like a very fast rollercoaster that never lets you catch your breath

Save the first kiss with Lois for the sequel

Dont make Martha Kent such a redneck

Moved the World Engine attack to nearby the city so it doesnt get damaged quite as much

Make Jonathan Kent a little.... better at clarifying himself. Yes he WANTS Clark to help people, but he mustn't be stupid able it etc.

Have them show the distance being far, between Clark and Jonathan when the tornado takes him. I'd ultimately prefer indecision and fear combining to make Clark too late/slow to save him.

Take out the Superman/Lois kiss. Have then together same scene but have Superman look around distraught. Have him say something that shows his sadness and possible guilt at helping cause the devastation. Only then (if you have to) have them kiss.

Take out the coughing at the world engine. Or at least so it properly. Shorten the fight against the self defense nanotechnology squid.

Have him smother Zod's eyes as he snaps his neck; that heat vision flame has to go somewhere when Zod's head is jerked around. Gets his hand burned for it.

Show there was a longish delay between end of battle and Daily Planet entrance, partly by him waiting for his hand to heal (for example - something to show they're a little more upbeat because it's been a while)

To me no matter how good or bad a movie is I still would never change a thing. I loved The Man Of Steel. It's the Superman film I've always wanted to see. I've never understood fans getting hung up on little details in films. It just seems too picky. Superman is my second favourite superhero with Batman as my first. So viewing these two hero's in this movies universe is very exciting for me.

I'd start him out as a child and build from there instead of having the flashbacks. I'd also give Clark a lot more dialogue.

I would NOT have Superman being the reason Zod's on earth.

That tornado scene needs to go, along with Clark's nonsensical out of character decision to not help his dad, even through normal nonpower means. Or at least not make it look so easy for Clark to have walked like 10 feet to his dad and helped him back to the overpass. At the very least, they should have made it impossible for Clark to reach his dad in time without his powers. Forget it, Clark not saving his dad with or without his powers just pisses me off so yeah that whole concept needs to go.

Superman tackling Zod recklessly right into town, leaving Martha behind with a bunch of kryptonians who very easily could have killed her if they'd thought of it.

I agree on saving the kiss for the next movie, and replacing that with Superman and Lois looking around in horror at the destruction. And have Superman using his xray vision or superhearing to look for survivors. And show him help rebuild Metropolis.

Show the city being evacuated when Zod's ship appears above it and before the world engine ray starts destroying it. Not everyone would leave, so people would be in danger, but the implied body count would be a lot less.

Show Superman actually being hurt or close to defeat. Show him using his brains to come back from defeat. Show him using his brains for anything.

First thing I would do is get rid of the flashbacks and have them be the first act of the film. My biggest complaint other than the pacing is that it feels as if the film lacks a second act. It would be as if Bruce gets back to Gotham in Batman Begins and then Ra's al Ghul attacks right after. The start of the film up until Clark gets back to Smallville feels like Act 1 and then everything from Zod's message to the end of the film feels like the Act 3. Something is missing in between. We never really see the public's reaction to Superman (only the government's reaction, Perry's, and Lois'). We never see whether or not Jonathan Kent was right.

My theory is that originally they weren't going to do the origin in flashbacks and have had that be the first had with adult Clark travelling being the second act and then finally with the Zod attack being the final act. However, they probably wanted to avoid the film being compared to the Donner film (since the first film used that exact formula) so they stuck to the Batman Begins layout.

    !!!???
Do u know how impactful it is to see the baby in the first scene!?!!!

I think it is the most powerful starting of a film about an origin story.

True...that's why I think if they just told a linear story would have been better.....I voted no flashbacks

well, hey. a lot of people don't like the fact that this was more of a science fiction movie than a "super-hero" movie :p

Well Superman's story is intrinsically a science fiction story. The minute you stick in aliens and spaceships it pretty much is in this case.

All of these suggestions would vastly improve the film.

As would these. Particularly the bolded portions. The entire film moved way too fast. There was no room to breathe and subsequently, we are given no reason to cheer for or care about any of these characters.
