Would you trade an 8th season of the show to see Welling in the JLA film?

If a proper Superman movie directed by Singer couldnt get the job done, I dont see how Smallville the Movie will (which basically what it is). Smallville audience has decreased as well over the years. I'm not hating, I'm just saying.

You have no idea what this will be. Just sayin'

Oh.. and welcome back. :)

It's funny how some of you thought I was posing this question as a hypothetical. Don't think that this very question wasn't posed in a WB boardroom not too long ago, and with a similar outcome.

sweet dreams, folks.

You're not looking at the big picture. There are many millions more that watch it worldwide. The world doesn't revolve around the US (sorry if this looks like an anti-american post, it isn't but it bugs me like some ppl always throw in the US numbers forgetting about the rest of the world, it's like they don't exist).
And more importantly SV makes in profit over 200 million worldwide, as much as it cost Singer to make SR. You do the math.

Its actually lost it's syndication in Australia and then came back and I heard its being axed again

I know it lost its syndication on Germany

and in the UK its been demoted to Sundays on Cable with new episodes on terristeral TV coming 2 seasons later than us here.

Those are big foreign markets and its just not a priority.

did you really spend all that time away just to come back to be a buzzkill and rain on the parade? I think the jetlag's gone to your noggin man.... ;)

I wouldnt take any notice of it getting axed in Australia. Any show that comes with the description of sci-fi fantasy will immediately sink.

Smallville was just recently awarded again in France at the Jules Vern Conference, and I hear that its a big hit in Brazil and alot of Asian countries.

Its a big world out there.

I got a friend in Hong Kong and he told me Star TV shows it (the largest cable provider in Asia) and he said he hadnt seen Smallville past season one.

I'm not trying piss people off or anything...like these are just facts.

The impression I get is internationally it was big for like the first 3 years but has slowly lost its buzz.

Besides for a show to really warrant transistioning into movie (which at the neucleus is what this may turn out to be) it has to have consistency in quality and a large, large audience. Smallville is no Simpsons or X Files.

But lets see what happens

The show isn't transitioning into a movie. Besides, you're forgetting DVD sales, SV is still a HUGE hit on the DVD, and it's the only CW show getting released on both HD formats.

... and lets not forget that its in the top5 DVR'd programs in the U.S. and consistently comes in the top 10 downloaded programs on Bittorent.

Dont get me started on that stupid HD-DVD v. Blu Ray battle...

The top 10 list on torrent sites change everyday depending on what's uploaded and DLed from the night before.

:wow: @ SV being the top 10 for it's night

Keep in mind, everyone, that this year the delayed viewing of Smallville will now count in the Nielsons.

I betcha Smallville's scores will see an increase this season.

Really? Are they set up to take into account DVR/Tivo recordings in Nielson ratings?

Awesome. :D I watch and record. So, *woot* for double points.

Exactly and you also have to take into account that alot of ppl follow the show throught the internet downloading the episodes legally or illegally and many more follow it by dvd.
Like I started watching the show on tv and then later on I started downloading the episodes and buying the dvds when they are released. Why should I waste time watching in lesser quality on tv (on my country the image sometimes is rainy and they plug alot of shows throughout the episode with subtitles etc) when I can watch it in dvd quality ?
There's many ways to measure a show's success.
In my country it got to be the second most popular show in the polls and it got alot of ratings. Right now it isn't airing but the dvds are a huge hit.
I got a little taste of it's impact when I went to the movies to see Cheaper By The Dozen and while I was in the line to buy tickets all I heard was ppl talk about going to see not the Steve Martin movie or Cheaper By The Dozen movie but the "movie with Superman"...(and from what I've read many of my fellow SV fans from around the world had similar experiences)
Given Tom is in a secondary role in that film and doesn't appear alot, that's saying ALOT.

Yep, yet more eyes counted for smallville!

O yes I will give up season 8 in a heart beat. Smallville is a good show but it needs to end because it looks like they are running out of ideas. Its time for TW to become superman and if he's not going to be supes in Smallville than let him become supes in the JLA movie. I just want him to be superman already!!!!!!

Smallville was over when that film released. Give me JUSTICE LEAGUE.

actually sunday on e4 is a really good timeslot in the u.k, and its a free channel on freeview

I'd probably rather have Smallville because it's kinda like a little movie every week, but the idea of Welling playing Supes on the big screen is really exciting. The rumors have been that they will work around his schedule to allow him to do both, which would be ideal. May be a pipe dream, though.

So um... GreenLantern75... What's shakin' hon? LOL

Given everything that's happened in the time since you started this thread, I find the notion of hypothetical polls garnering similar results in WB boardrooms as they do I-Net message boards quite intriguing in retrospect.

I'm also chomping at the bit for more clues.... :woot:

Not for nothing, but WHV is hyping the hell out of "Justice" in all the marketing for the DVD set. Have you looked at the latest ish of Rolling Stone (the one with 50 and Kanye on the cover)? On page 40, there's a gigantor 2-page ad for the DVDs featuring the iconic "Justice" explosion. Plus RS is holding a contest giving away a bunch of SV swag.

So I'm re-watching CW's rerun of "Justice" last night (for the first time in HD, natch!) and that last scene really struck me. It's the one where they're all in Clark's barn and Ollie and co. are trying to convince Clark to join their League. Clark says something like, "I want to be a part of this. I really do, but there's something I got to take care of first."

I bet Tom had a similar convo just recently about joining another "Justice League," no? I dunno. That made me smile.

Looking at that contest, this is the list of prizes:
One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive: "Smallville: Seasons 1-6" DVD box set; Autographed "Smallville" Script; "Smallville" CD Soundtracks - Volumes 1 and 2; "Smallville" Notebook; "Smallville" FD Hooded Sweatshirt; "Smallville" Athletic T-shirt; "Smallville" Sport Bag. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") of Grand Prize: $1000. Actual retail value of the Grand Prize may vary. Certain restrictions may apply. Rolling Stone reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

Is it just me or does all that stuff not come even close to adding up to $1000 worth of merchandise? 'Retail value may vary' indeed!
