Tony Stark is like in his mid thirties (and that's ignoring Marvel's assertation that Tony is in his late twenties) and Peter says he's been like a father to him?

:-)

Tony's a bit older than that, I'd think. And who are you saying has been a father to who, exactly?

It was in one of the Civil War Tie-ins. I think the one where he takes off his mask, he says Tony has been like a father to him (Spiderman).

And no, it was said in the Iron Man letter columns that Tony was in his late twenties (which is ridiculous to me).

I was under the impression that there was some form of time travel/alternate dimension storyline somewhere in marvel continuity where Tony was replaced by a younger version of himself.
I'm hazy on the details but I believe Tony Stark should be in his late 40's or so but his body is younger than it should be.

Actually, it should be closer to 60--I believe the "Vietnam" origin is still cannon for him.

Its not. According to Ellis at least. Its Gulf War now.

1) Just because it happened in Vietnam doesn't mean it was in the 60s. It's been stated that the people who kidnapped him were apart of The Mandarin's criminal organization, not the Vietnamese governent.

2) Wasn't it recently retconned to Afganistan?

Up there with Clone Saga was that Iron Man died off screen and was replaced by a teenaged double.

Who was also replaced without explanation after Heroes Reborn with a more familiar Tony.

Though like Magneto, this would allow Stark to appear to be a young bachelor while still having been in Korea (the first origin, since wasn't he created in the early 60s/late 50s?).

I still say they should try and figure out a way to update Tony. He's almost as bad as Captain America really. Except while Captain America fought Nazis, Tony's opponent was the Soviet Union and communist China.

Either tie it all to HYDRA or make him remarkably well preserved.

Captain America was frozen in a block of ice for the time between the war and when he re-emerged. And he doesn't age. At least not normally. As for Tony, like I said, it doesn't require that much of a change. It's already been stated in the comics that the people who kidnapped him were working for The Mandarin. Not Communists.

couldnt they be both? i like the idea of Iron Man vs communism.
LoL It reminds me of those old war time comic book adds. "fight the japanazi's by buying war bonds!"

Just because Tony may only be a couple years older than Peter doesn't mean he can't be a father figure to him. John Tunstall was only 24 when he took Billy the Kid and the rest of the regulators in who were 19 to 21 years old. And it's been written that he was a father figure to all the boys. So just because someone is only a few years older doesn't mean they can't be a father figure. It just means that Tony shares his wisdom with Peter and Peter admires Tony like a father.

Tony being in his 20's is ridiculous! I thought dude was always in his late 30's since he started to don the armor. How can Parker age and Tony don't?

The thread title should be the other way around.

Good ol' Pete should be doing the smacking while Tony Stark is on the receiving end of a radioactive spider beotch slap.

Afghanistan is correct.

It was called Hero's Reborn. You can thank Franklin for that.

Thank goodness there have been so many wars to retcon all these origins
Tony's part machine now with the extremis stuff, ja? that'll slow his aging nicely, where as in a year or two you'll be hearing how peter parker's powers keep him young. he WAS reborn as well, so if he's in perfect condition then... what? we're gonna say biologically he's like 21? something like that?
They really should just age everyone and have their offspring take over. go spider-girl :) Legacy heroes! That's the word...

It was explained over in an Avengers Annual, as was Wasp's return to human form and Hawkeye's hearing being restored.

nah, offspring shouldn't be allowed to takeover. Nothing like the original! As soon as the offspring takeover, I won't buy that comic anymore. it just wouldn't be the same. I like how they age now. its crazy but its ok.

Your thread title is kind of stupid. Why should Peter be smacked? It is the inconsistency of the writers.
