Writer of The Matrix revival teases Expanded Universe

How would a Matrix before Neo new of his origins be any good?

Just can't seem to care. The original's amazing and a pretty big deal nostalgically for me, seeing it in theaters at 13 was ridiculously great. Pretty much a perfect movie.

Hell, even Reloaded's fun.

Just have zero interest in seeing some Morpheus origins movie, for whatever reason. *Shrugs* Especially if Jordan's playing him.

The concerns are pointless until we see what talent comes on board. The right director and actors could elevate anything and The Matrix is definitely a world worth exploring again.

Frankly, hit-and-miss as the Wachowskis may be, I wouldn't want to see anyone elses' take on this world. It's just kinda...theirs, same way people other than Lucas & Spielberg doing an Indy movie might pan out well, but I wouldn't want it to happen.

You're right, it's dumb to get ahead of ourselves and just write it off before there's even a script. People shouldn't do that.

Just conceptually it's all seeming a bit unnecessary, the same way both sequels were. Morpheus' story is basically "a man of strong faith, who finds Neo". There really doesn't need to be any more to the guy. Neo suffered bigtime himself in the sequels, his story was just already done, we knew he was The One, we knew the prophecy was true, we knew whatever went down he's save Zion.

Just sort of seems the same here. The meat of Morpheus' story is finding Neo, we don't really need to see how he got the the position he was in in the first movie.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Matrix if it's a cartoon like the Animatrix.

I loved the first. Was Meh for reloaded, but really liked Revolution (The whole dock fight scene was awesome!)

Isnt this a nerd forum that swims in nerdy franchises and things of the like? Why the hate?

Its not like this is the 5th reboot of the matrix franchise.

Because not everything's necessary?

You can both love the Matrix and see this as being probably not a great idea. You don't want to Terminator this mother****er.

This was Terminated after the first film. The only good thing to come from the original was the Animatrix.

Do you not want to D.V Blade Runner this?

The studio should just focus on another thing. The premise of the Matrix world doesn't feel fitting for an extended universe. Like are we gonna get feature films with different characters in that world? Animatrix couldn't even get my full attention.

Animatrix was clever stuff, but it's not really going to fly with general audiences. Way too sort of obscure & high-concept, even moreso than some of the philosophical elements in the sequels.

If they have some big grand amazing idea to rejuvenate this, then cool, but "young Morpheus" just really doesn't sound like it.

Fifteen years later, The Architect scene is still screwing over this franchise. SMH.

I think the problem facing any Matrix revival is that while there are stories left to tell in that universe, there aren't any stories as big as Neo's. The Star Wars prequels even had it better because they were teased with poetic phrases in the original film, not one lined away into pre-solved conflicts. A Young Morpheus storyline sounds like a better fit for a TV show ala Sarah Connor Chronicles. Something smaller, in every sense but runtime.

With Neo being the endpoint of an era, anything in or before that era feels like much ado about nothing. Anything after that era feels like it undermines the Matrix trilogy if it becomes as big a problem as the original Matrix unless you REALLY expand the universe to bring in some new sci-fi factor, that goes laterally instead of vertically in scale, and it may not be possible to find that kind of element and still retain what makes the Matrix special.

That said, the more I think about it a Reboot (with a capital R) inspired Young Morpheus TV series is one I would be guaranteed to watch the pilot for.

See, I'd actually be more interested in a continuation taking place a couple of decades after Revolutions. The problem with you can all too easily run into prequels is you end up filling in gaps, but you still know where it basically has to end up and it all has a sense of inevitability about it.

Morpheus and Niobe could have a child that's the new main protagonist. Or you could focus on Sati and turn the franchise on its head by making a human-like program the focus of the story. Although I think new characters with no connection to the original cast inhabiting that world may be the best approach.

Ultimately though, without the contributions of the W's, any of the original cast, or Don Davis' music, I don't know how interested I am. I love the idea of The Matrix coming back in a meaningful way, but it has to be right.

Philosophy/story aside- those movies were FUN to watch. A unique blend of cyberpunk sci-fi, big R-rated action, 'edgy' music and kung-fu. Again, even if you take the philosophy stuff aside, they were a blast. A pop culture/counter-culture stew that was also very much a product of its time. I'd love to see it done well, but I feel like it would be tough to pull off today with no compromises, at least as a movie series. Netflix is another story.

I'd be interested in the stories of the rogue programs (the talk about "vampires/ghosts", etc) or hell one that focuses on the history of the Merovingian.

There's no point of continuing the story from Revolutions for me; I'm not interested in how humans/robots begin to co-exist, if at all, as I feel anything major that happens in the wrong undermines the originals and Neo.

Maybe have it set in a previous Matrix that failed? To at least see how and why...as if the Matrix story was a big choose your own adventure and we got the good ending, but not the bad.
