So, I can manage the cover letter stuff pretty easily, but I'm pretty stumped coming up with a decent résumé, since I pretty much have zero job experience. Every example I've looked up starts off with a fairly confident and specific job title, but what am I supposed to say when I've graduated from political science, yet not applying as "political scientist"? I'm applying to a couple positions as a writer/editor/compiler, as well as this other thing that deals with humanitarian work and charity organizations, and for the life of me I can't think of a good title that would sound the least bit professional. What am I supposed to put, "Enthusiastic Political Science Graduate"? That's awful sounding. Any help from the people that have been through this already?

I know where you're coming from. I mean how do you put on your resume "I will be working on a microbudget mockumentary this august"??

Did you work any internships or even volunteer work during school?

I worked a temp job at the university library. I feel like I can spin that into a couple different bullets, but the title thing is irking me.

You don't necessarily need a title. Your degree from your college should be enough for that.

It should Be something along the lines of

Bosses, Professors, Family Friends, Family that don't share your last name.

Erz, as one of the few hype members I'd be willing to take serious advice from, you wouldnt happen to still have your resumé on file somewhere on your comp, would you? It'd help me a lot to see an example from a person of which I've got some idea of where he's coming from, rather than some random cookie cutter example like from the various resumé help sites.

Edit - sure, that'd help me out, SB

Man, this job stuff blows.

Put that you have experience in being a student in political theory.

Would I have to get the profs' permission, or could I just throw them on there if I think they'd be willing to give me mad props if called?

It'd be best if you asked them.

For entry level jobs, I doubt they do check references but in case they do it's always good to be prepared.

I'd call your professors and say, Hi this is Cal, and I'm applying for this job could I use you as a reference? If they say no, go down the list but I doubt they will unless you were a bastard in class.

Were you? :(

Well, don't ask them just tell them you're "sticking them on there."

Not with the ones I'd ask.
