I haven't bought a WWE game in years (last one was the version that had the history of Wrestlemania mode), but maybe this year will change that.

I passed on last years. I will most likely get this one due to roster. New editions like Roode and possible video game returns of Angle and the Hardyz.

There were a few years that the roster additions weren't enough to make a splash for me, but with the huge inclusions over the last two years makes the roster upgrades a fans dream. Especially this year with the likely inclusions of Angle, Hardyz, Roode, Ciampa, Gargano, Ect. I love the dynamic of the full modern roster and many legends of multiple eras.

I'm most excited for Angle. I know he's RAW GM now, but it would be a shame and waste to not make him playable.

if nothing else, I want his outfits, Entrance theme and moves, and overall moveset for my CAW.

my go-to CAW is Captain America/Superman/Superboy inspired, so Angle's "All-American" theme fits perfectly.

plus, I always loved his entrance where he points his fingers up on the ramp and the Red, White, Blue pyros fire off!!

as for the game itself, 2K17 was a bit of a disappointment and I think I'm starting to feel a bit of franchise fatigue. However, as I do every year, I remain optimistic that the new game will continue to improve.

and, idk, I just have a feeling this year will be good.

I wish we could have a career mode in these games that is RPG like, like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, where we can take our created wrestler through a story mode where we have to make choices and can turn heel or babyface based on the reaction our decisions generate, and have that effect how our career mode plays out.

There's an article up at GameSpot that mentions revamped MyCareer mode, Promo Engine 2.0, Create-A-Match mode, revamped match types, , improved grappling system, 8 wrestlers in the ring at once, mixed gender wrestling, etc. Nothing about a GM-esqe mode yet.

I'm loving the news about Create-A-Match mode and them updating match types. It's a feature I've missed from the previous games. Plus, you've had wrestlers such as Chyna and Jacqueline who have won championships that have been predominately won by male wrestlers.

yeah. I understand the reluctance of portraying male on female violence in real life.

but this is a video game, and games ( fighting games in particular ) have shown females beating the crap out of male characters for years.

as for the rest of the article, I'm excited about what I read.

stuff like different "fighting types" and a more expansive grappling system have been stuff I've been wanting for years. I just hope the fighting types system won't be too limiting or restrictive cuz in real life, you do have "big men" who can move and fly through the air ( think Taker in his prime doing those flying clothelines and leaping dives to outside the ring. Even Strowman can move pretty well for a big guy ).

as always with this series, I'm cautiously optimistic, but as I said earlier above, I do have a good feeling about this year. After "coasting along" for the past few years, it does feel like this could be the year where the series reinvents and refreshes itself once again.

This is a small thing maybe but I wish they'd change Hell In A Cell. Specifically the fact that your character needs a certain ability to be able to break your opponent through the one side of the cell in order to get out and climb up.

with the new additions to the Creation suite, I really hope they finally add the word "Raven" to the spoken name/nickname list.

Maybe it's due to a licensing issue ( the real wrestler Raven ) but I've been wanting to create a CAW with the name Raven or Raven something for years and years.

I will be getting the deluxe edition myself. But yeah I am curious how other players can get their hands on RVD, Batista and the 2 versions of Angle. I am sure the pre order for Angle will give us the more recent bald version. Wonder about that older with hair version.

I believe I read the deluxe includes both RVD and Batista for sure. It might include both Angles.

Better submission system.
More improvements to gameplay.

Of course I mean yeah. I never said graphics were the only thing that mattered, just showing off a video the dev team posted. Showing off what they can do with their new engine. New engine for 18 and first time they can focus on just the next gen consoles instead of older consoles as well.

I don't play my career so I don't have any interest in that. They said they were doing a different submission system. And some gameplay improvements are of course always welcome.
