Realistically, it's too soon for a restart, as a restart is basically saying ALL the previous X-movies are crap and should be ignored. Which Fox or Marvel is not going to be seen as implying or saying.
Which kinda is
exactly the point some of us are making by asking for either a distant reboot or to stop x-flicks altogether. The later having to do with sparing us the mind-numbing pain of watching the x-verse get f****d over some more.

Am voting for a restart, but, yes, X-Maniac is right about it being too soon.
Oh, and here are some pointers regarding some key characters:
Cyke and Storm: Look, if you include them, make them actual leaders and not just cardboard cut-outs. Otherwise, don't even bother.
Chuck: We all know the guy is manipulative. Still, he's had a good agenda all along. Having him be a saint in X1/2 and then turn into an a$$hole in X3 does NOT qualify as doing justice to the character and aforementioned concept. And for the love of God, have him DO something. Mouthy tour guide just doesn't quite cut it.
Logan: Either you portray him as an obnoxious a$$hole (x1/x2) or an angsty samourai (comics). It took years and mind-numbing drama for the guy to change. You can't get this across in three flicks. Pick one and stick with it. And for the love of god, give him at least ONE decent fight once every three flicks.
Jean: If you pair her up with someone, make it CONVINCING. Also, have her be more than the prize of a pissing contest and PLEASE, don't f**k up her most famous story-arc
by having her take a backseat and turn into an impotent dimwit with daddy issues. Kinda takes away from the 'I am fire and life incarnate' thingie.
Bobby: Please don't turn him into an emo wimp who for some reason grows a pair not only off-screen, but in-between flicks.
Warren: Refer to first part of comment above. Also, if you include him, give him more than a f****n POINTLESS GLORIFIED CAMEO.
Beast: Don't make the guy a LATE addition, k? Beast not being old school just doesn't feel right.
Magneto: Don't have his IQ drop significantly in-between flicks.
Well, not that this is IT, but it would be one hell of a good start.
