The silver lining here is if this helps Tim Miller get in the drivers seat of directing the main line X-men flicks. Then all will be suddenly right with the world.
Deadpool proved an ability to handle a budget and the material. He made a 60m movie, look bigger then its budget. Just like Vaughn before First Class. He's gonna need to do some big budget films before he gets an X-Men film, unless you want another Josh Trank situation.
How many big budget films did Russo do before the Winter Soldier? He's gonna need to do some big budget films before he gets an X-Men film, unless you want another Josh Trank situation.
The negative reviews (which are mostly meh) say that the movie is too much of a generic superhero movie. Sounds like this movie steps away from its themes of discrimination, except for maybe the Magneto stuff which is getting praised. I honestly don't think Apocalypse, as he is in the comics, is a critic-friendly villain. The movie probably needed to radically redefine him if it wanted the critic score.

I thought for sure they'd focus on the kids this time. It doesn't seem like they do, which disappointments me.
Isn't Magneto one of the aspects of the movie that has been getting consistent praise? Why are some posters here pointing their pitchforks towards him?
That is exactly what you say when you are trying to avoid the question of why they no give you money. The writers of deadpool pretty much said they didn't want a large budget because they felt it was better to make a movie in a certain budget because it allows being more creative
which is teerrable idea.X-men are treated as joke In deadpool.
I don't like Apocalypse in the comics. But he's a character fans have wanted for years. The movie seems like a faithful translation of the character, but like you've said he's somewhat one-note. Thankfully this movie also promises to provide origins for my favourite characters and uses Apocalypse as an excuse to show powers on a greater scale than ever before (which might not have the depth I'm used to from X-movies but might still be fun to watch).apocalypse truthfully is alot like venom.... great first run.. but since then, because both were very one-note.. have had a hard time thriving in story telling... i mean all apocalypse basically does is constantly create horsemen in the books and tries to take over the world... and fails every time... there's really nothing exciting beyond that they've ever done with the character.

With Singer already taking a break from this to go direct 20,000 League's and Miller hitting it out of the park with Deadpool, I think there's definitely going to be directorial shakeup happening here.
truthfully you can have a good story arch for Erik, and praise it.. but still be incredibly annoyed with the Erik/Xavier tropes and the rehashed story that comes with their relationship.
This doesn't make sense. Colossus was a joke and he wasn't anything like Singer's Colossus.ofcourse they are joke. it mocks everything singer and fox ever failed to make right. and for a reason. it wouldnt be a joke if it werent true. also jokes about x-men and studio are best ones for me in deadpool. I dont remember I laughed as much ever in cinema.
This is what's the most perplexing to me. Singer and production sounded like they really understood the importance of establishing Scott, Jean and Ororo as the core of the X-men. While it sounds like Scott, Jean and to a lesser extent Kurt, get some good groundwork, once again, Storm has been shafted.
This director just doesn't understand the importance of the character, how to write her and many other things. What a waste!
Yes, Colossus was treated as a joke.
No, wait. That was the Singer version. The Deadpool version is by far the best we've got and it wasn't even an X flick.

The new kids have been a consistent highlight of the film, so they'll keep the cast on board. Although they will likely change the approach to story, I think. Ironically, I'm more excited for the reintroduction of the X-Men characters, and critics seem to be too. It's a shame they didn't push them forward in promotion as they did the Horsemen. Part of me wishes there were somewhat to reboot Iceman too to join them, maybe even get the "snowman" effect he had early on as part of the O5
