Wow the Peter Travers review is killer. This is the guy who usually has good pull quotes even for X3 and XMA. He destroyed this.

Ugh. These people:

I’m convinced these people just google people’s names and quote the first thing they see.

The changes in FC weren't Vaughn's fault. Since they weren't a full-on reboot, Vaughn had to fit his movie in with pre-established continuity. And it had to connect to the OT -- So the choices and changes were basically mandated.

Jackman’s cameo in FC was one of the more memorable parts of FC. Recreating the concentration camp also elevated the movie from the Sucker Punches and Green Lanterns of that year.

I don’t know whose big idea it was to make Mystique Xavier’s sister but that’s not OT continuity and January’s acting (or lack thereof), several mute characters, forgettable “First Class ‘X-men’” members, bad dialogue, bad transition scenes, bad v f/x, bad make-up can’t be blamed on trying “to fit his movie on pre-established continuity.”

Movie is underwhelming Im afraid to report imo. It was a strange feeling leaving the cinema screen knowing that this is the end of the Xmen Fox franchise. Whats more strange is this didnt feel like a comic book movie at all or even anything like the other X-movies. Its tone is closest to X1 but it didnt have the character exuberance of it.

I'm in no particular rush but I'm definitely going to see this. Cinema subscription will alleviate the guilt of potentially giving Kinberg money.

Despite it all, I'm quite excited. I've been fan-editing X-Men 3 for years, and I'm looking forward to seeing what can be harvested. Sophie Turner's Jean Grey material from 'Apocalypse' and this will be repurposed as flashback material to enhance the Famke Janssen Phoenix turn. Hoping to transform TLS into a sort of counterpoint to DOFP with a shared cast and finally make a decent 3rd entry out of it.

I got the impression Fox just didn't care about the movies at this point. Perhaps that's why? I felt like they would have been wound down after this film either way.

It baffles my mind how we still get bad comic book movies in 2019. First hellboy and most likely this, have we learned nothing from the past?

I understand the circumstances with this movie but that is no excuse for actors like jlaw phoning it in as well as dull costumes and terrible blue body paint.

They rebooted this with 2 really good films then crapped the bed in the end

He told them he's this franchise's grandfather (I think he meant godfather) and the studio bought it hood[winked], LInE and sTinker.

Fan4stic was like “drinking while roasting the film MST3000” level bad. It’s hard for me to think this is that bad. If it is though, I’ll find out tomorrow.

Given how dour and downbeat this film is, you have to wonder what Kinberg meant by being inspired by Ragnarok. Other than cynically just throwing out the names of the most popular movie at the time that is.

I doubt this film has the spontanous, improv brilliance of Ragnarok.

It's a ****load better than any of the DCEU stuff bar Wonder Woman, it's better than the non-Singer/Mangold X-Men stuff, it's better than Iron Man 2 or The Dark World, or Spiderman 3 or X-Men 3 or Blade 2/3 or Daredevil or any of the F4 stuff. It's pretty much Thor/Superman Returns/The Dark Knight Rises territory, flawed but basically fine.

Lighten up, Francis. This thing's not exactly high art, but it's hardly under 5/10 on the superhero movie scale historically. It hits more than it misses.

Just got out of a screening here in the UK. I have been on internet/social media blackout from the last few days so I am surprised by the reviews and the really rotten score! I thought the film wasn’t too bad; I enjoyed it more than Apocalypse (that one was really bad!). It’s a shame how badly received Dark Phoenix is but it is what it is. Oh well, there’s the MCU X-Men to look forward to.

Big fan of Vaughn (as a director not a person) but I don’t think he’s right for X-Men. As someone pointed out, he doesn’t really understand female characters. And X-Men has some of the greatest female characters in comics. Something we’ve never seen in the movies.

Female characters: it girl from kickass.

She was as good as X23.

I think Vaughn understands female characters. Loved the female in kingsman 1. The characterization of Mystique in first class was one of the best if not the best complex female written characters for a comic film were girls are either love interests or secret spies. it did become a curse in the long run since Lawrence hit superstardom after first class and her fame took over the franchise.

That been said I think X23 is among the greatest female character in comic films. People should not start using this movie as an excuse to attack other past great movies.

If I had to choose between X23 and Captain Marvel. I will choose X23 and many will agree.

First Class was in a league of its own that year, Sucker Punch and Green Lanterns were mediocre but it also ahead of Thor 1 and Capitan America 1 but Kinberg was only a producer among 4. Like I said, he is the kid in school that does nothing and gets an A for working in a ''team project''.
