Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I'm sure they just name dropped any random character in the reshoots for Chastain, just like Kinberg did with Doom in the FF reshoots he brilliantly directed.

Yeah, but wasn’t he always intended on being the film’s version of Doom, regardless of his name? I get that they changed his name in the reshoots, but it’s not all that random, is it? Domashev was just another cultural/lingual interpretation of von Doom.

It probably won’t be a similar scenario for Chastain, though. She likely isn’t meant to represent a singular character like Domashev/von Doom did. So, yeah, random it is.

i just mean that it'll be a change that attempts to appease fans. I don't think it'll make sense and it's just gonna feel random if she's suddenly Nova or anyone else.

The suggestion that they can reveal her to be a "shape-shifting" Lilandra from the reshoots means a completely different actress will portray her after the big reveal and I just can't see Kinberg doing that to his "good friend." Unless Lilandra's true form is a prosthetic-laden character that's still portrayed by Chastain ala Mendelsohn.

The only thing worst would be if it's revealed her true form is that of a male, especially considering all the girl power interviews Chastain has done. That said, a bone-headed plot twist like that is definitely *not* out of the question.

I really hope they wouldn’t do something like making her characters true form male. I doubt they would do that, but who knows at this point.

I just hope her character is good.

According to the spoilers, Chastain plays
A regular civilian. Then she's killed by an alien who takes the form of her. So the Chastain appearance comes from that civilian.

So it'd be ridiculous if her true form looked anything like Chastain lol

Based on Magnetos outfit in his trailer scenes on Genosha and his outfit during the trailer scenes in Central Park, that image
seems to be the outcome of a Central Park battle since he has his coat but sans helmet. We saw that scene of Cyclops walking like a bad ass in a battle ground so I can only hope that’s his moment to really show up and be Cyclops.

I doubt Chastain would have agreed to be apart of it if her true form was male. thats not a strong female character, thats a female character whose strong because she is really a man.

Yeah because he totally didn’t get fired from his last movie for pulling the same thing he did while filming Apocalypse. Fox clearly took note during Apocalypse and got fed up when they saw it spiral worse.

Well if we are fair on him, he apparently had a sick family member and wanted to visit them all the time, to the point it was starting to effect the scheduling of the film.

I don't know whether the firing was as bitter as reports made it sound though.

Lamar Johnson Will Give You Something to Talk About

The actor stars in "The Hate U Give" and will join the Marvel franchise with "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" next year.

Lamar Johnson has just landed in New York from his hometown of Toronto. He shows up to a photo shoot in Midtown with a large suitcase in tow, and quickly trades his Calvin Klein denim for Thom Browne trousers. (Raf Simons? “He’s just killin’ it,” says the 24-year-old actor.)

Johnson recently attended the Toronto International Film Festival, where he had a film premiering for the second year in a row. Last year, it was “Kings”; this past September, he was there for “The Hate U Give,” adapted from the popular young adult novel centered on racism, police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Everybody’s receiving [the film] so well, and it’s really resonating with people,” says Johnson, who portrays the brother of the central character; the film stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr Carter. “I just knew that people would have a conversation about it — I knew it would evoke conversation.”

The film’s producers knew that as well.

“George [Tillman Jr.], the director, he actually got the manuscript before it even came out as a book. So he had his ear on the pavement very, very early,” Johnson says. “And when [the book] came out, it was number one on The New York Times bestseller list and then 20th Century Fox was kind of just like, ‘OK, cool, we need to make this movie.'”

The film has received favorable reviews, and although it’s targeted toward a teen audience, the themes being explored are topical and provocative across demographics — age, race, social.

“I think it has a lot of representation for both sides — black and white, or even just people of color in general,” Johnson adds. “The topics that are touched in this film are so very relevant and topical, and also I think there’s a reason why these stories are being told….I think it’s really great that it’s being put on this medium and on this scale for people around the world to see this.”

The actor found out he was cast in the project while filming the upcoming X-Men mega-blockbuster “Dark Phoenix” in Montreal. Johnson signed a multipicture deal for the Marvel film; while his character hasn’t been revealed, Johnson offers that he is portraying an existing student from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. “There are so many characters, so I’m just happy I’m able to be of service to one of them,” he says. “I’ll be a part of the next [film], too. You kind of get to go on this journey with my character, so that’s a lot of fun for me, but also fun for the fans that love and know this character.”

Book adaptations — be it comic or literary — seem to be a theme in Johnson’s current career arc. He also appears in artist Rashid Johnson’s forthcoming film “Native Son,” adapted from the Richard Wright classic, and this month will begin filming “All the Bright Places,” another adaptation of a novel, starring Elle Fanning. “I feel like I’m getting all these adaptations, but those are the best ones,” he says.

“I’m very blessed to have worked on such great projects with such a great cast, such great filmmakers,” Johnson adds. “I’m an inspiring filmmaker myself, I want to direct — so to work with these people and to be able to just watch the process and soak in as much as I can on set, it’s just amazing to do. Because then I’m going to apply certain things into my practices and it’s only going to then elevate me.”

The actor, who grew up in Toronto, moved to Los Angeles in March after traveling back-and-forth for several years. While acting has taken center stage, he’s found time to film a few short freestyle dance videos as well. He’s self taught, and credits dance as his first passion; one of his first acting credits was the dance TV drama “The Next Step.”

“With these videos I do, I use it as a way to exercise my directing muscle and that thing I have inside of me,” he says. “But also to use it as an outlet to continue to dance, because acting has taken over my life — in the best way possible.”

There may have in fact been a sick family member but he wasn’t leaving set to see them because he was popping back into LA and was spotted out in the WeHo social scene a few weeks prior to that whole thing. Those that have me personally on social media can see that I actually used to see him frequently after DoFP which is when I moved here and realized that the world is actually really really small.

*Come to think of it, everyone I would have would have been from the old XMF forums but the ones I’ve seen from back then aren’t any of those that come to mind. Anyways, I’ve heard and seen things about Bryan and I can’t figure out if it’s a fall from grace thing or a removing of the veil..

Bryan, I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you. *insert Tyra Banks screaming*

I doubt it.

For the obvious reasons being the entirety of the series so far, I second that but a guy can dream.

Also, I hope the scene in the trailer when we see the fire go into Jean basically comes off as a shot for shot remake of that infamous X-Men evolution tease. We see her curling into herself in the trailer, now show us the money shot.

I should watch X-Men Evolution again. Haven't watched it since it first aired.

As soon as I saw the bottom right in the trailer and uniform with the motion she was making I knew what HAD to come next and it shouldn’t be anything other than that specific scene. They can even add a Phoenix in Jamaica bay moment and let her faint after she lets it spread its wings.

My generation grew up with both Evolution and TAS but Evolution was the one we really knew since we were older then and got giddy when we saw that scene because of what we faintly remembered at the time from Fox morning cartoons. I remember seeing that final episode for the first time (and not even knowing it was the finale!), which I still remember was 11:30am because yugioh was right before it, and that was also the second X-men evolution episode on the block wasthe new episode and a would air rerun episode of the season before (thankfully in order) came on at 9:30. This is also when Xmen popularity was at an all time high because X2 had either just come out or was about to.
EDIT: X2 had came out in May and the finale with that scene aired in August! Just did a quick search and compare.

So who could Lamar Johnson be playing? Unfortunately there aren't a lot of prominent black X-Men in the comics, but he said he signed a multi-picture deal with Fox and would be in the next X-Men film as well. So it sounds like he has a decent role in the film, unless they cut him out.

I think Iceman.

He doesnt have a decent role lol.
Next year some will say that it almost cant be called a role. We'll see how many lines he ends getting, but I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt get more than 3

Remember Jubilee lol

I doubt he will have many lines in the final cut, but he obviously filmed enough scenes to say his character has an arc. Has Bishop ever been a young mutant living in the X-Mansion before? I only know him as the time traveling guy from the future. I would love if he was playing a gay Iceman and we finally got a gay character in the main series, considering the series in many way is a metaphor for gay/civil rights. But then again I don't like them purposely ****ing with continuity like that. It's messy enough.

Screw continuity and make him Iceman and make him gay. It's the last movie. Go all out. Take risks. Make it interesting.

That being said, I bet his character isn't from the comics and is made up in the movie to be a student with a few lines, maybe in a classroom.
