Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

And the thing is; Cyclops being Logan's foil doesn't even have to be a bad thing. Those two characters have great chemistry. Why not use that? But no. They had a few moments of witty banter but that's it.

Yeah, basically the majority of the characters are there to serve Logan's arc.

And yeah, developing Logan and Scott rivalry could be great, but they've never really invested enough in Cyclops to give him a POV, for the audience to root for. It could be something like we've seen with Steve and Tony. Or hell, even Eric and Charles.

If they wanted to, they could also create some leadership conflicts between Ororo and Scott, since both of them have very different background and different takes on life. There were certainly many opportunities, inside and outside the leadership role. The thing is, FOX never really believed in Cyclops as a character.

Meanwhile, in Dark Phoenix, Jean will be a source of leadership conflict between Raven and Charles. And later Charles and Eric. How exciting.

I don't really play favorites with my X-Men. There is a very small margin between the X-Man I like most and my 12th favourite

Yeah, I genuinely love all those characters. That's why I was so pissed about Emma and Sean being killed off screen. Then how Betsy, Warren and Jubilee were treated. Hell, even the way they handled Blob pissed me off. Even Blob deserved more.

I would like to see Sean and Emma as proper X-Men and those three as well.

Its almost impossible for me to choose even top ten favorite x men characters... But i am a total sucker for summers-grey-frost triangle haha. Hopefully i get to see it on screen someday.

I don't really play favorites with my X-Men. There is a very small margin between the X-Man I like most and my 12th favourite. I can't believe how few of them have been given decent material in almost 2 decades. I like what we've got with Xavier and Magneto but the X-Men are also supposed to be an awesome field team with numerous great interrelationships within that. I want DP to be as good as possible, but after that I will very much be looking to the future.

This is all fair. I will just add though fans may never exactly get the level of intricacy and interpersonal relationships they wish. I know Marvel will do better at building up all the characters, but there are those dynamics that will still shine and those that will be more for hardcore fans only. I suppose an MCU analogy of this is how important Steve and Tony's friendship is... and how so few care about Vision and Scarlet Witch's romance, or that between Banner and Natasha.

Movies just don't have the bandwidth for the level of subplots within subplots that comics (or television) does, but the MCU will at least make you care about most of the characters, whereas Kinberg is only now putting in the effort to Scott and Jean on their seventh film, and Storm is still little more than a cipher. That I confess will be the most damning aspect of the Fox era, just like how the Charles and Erik or Charles and Logan relationships will be some of the highlights, as I'd argue they're better than what's in the comics.

We're at the seventh installment of X-Men in 20 years, some pretty intricate stuff could've already developed by now, especially since you've got three Wolverine spinoffs to focus on Wolverine's adventures and leave more room for other characters in other films.

Here's an idea: Professor X and Wolverine just got killed off, have X-23 bring back X-Men like Cyclops, Rogue, Bishop who did not die on screen + new actors for Gambit, Emma Frost, Beast, Northstar, Colossus.

Weren't they planning an X-23 in addition to a Shadowcat Film and a Multiple Man film?

The X-Men comics are full of those dynamics. Not only the romances, but between brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters, kids from the future, friendships, rivalries, sisterhoods, even clones. The movies cannot touch upon all of that. But as you said, Marvel can do better.

I'm sure Marvel will tackle on the most dynamics that are achievable. They have done a great job so far. They have the tools for it too. Wanda got a much bigger role in Infinity War than I was previously expecting. Now she's getting a solo minisseries.

With an expanded universe, Marvel has a better environment to explore those characters. And with this idea of giving solo minisseries to non-solo heroes, the X-Men have a much better chance there. At least we're guarantee of not having 20 years with the same 3 characters upfront.

A character who has barely had any personality, development and proper power display in the franchise, and you want to take away his powers? :/
Definitely! The way he overcame it in the end gave me chills!

Just a thought:

Could be the yellow/blue "X" suits in the trailer a softer version of more sophisticated X-Men suits they are gonna wear in the final battle?

Nah, kinberg doesnt like colourful outfits, they will prevent his masterpiece to be viewed "seriously".

Simon said he was most excited about getting them into their comic oufits. and thats why we got the blue and yellow outfits in the film in the first place.

When it comes down to it though it depends whether them wearing them fits the situation and sometimes certain situations probably don't.

The 3rd act was reshot so maybe they included the costumes in the rework. But i see why they could not be wearing it, if the leaks are true and the final battle occurs impromptu outside the U.N with an alien attack then they would be in civilian clothing and no time to change.

But then the logical solution would be having the Xjet nearby so they can quickly change into their fighting gear like they showed in X2 when Wolverine was changing in it mid flight and Iceman demanded to know where his and Rogues suits were.

Doubtful but there’s a story reason behind it.

Agreed. Though interpersonal relationships are important I doubt they'll have as much comic accurate depictions as some are expecting.
Xhausting.
Xclaimation as in

"Oh brother!!!"
