Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

APOCALYPSE - The real origin of the "new timeline" X-Men. And it was well-done. It's a great movie.

:/ How was it well done? Characters with 2-3 lines, awful CGI finale. Apocalypse woke up because Moira moved a rug like 5 inches.. okay then..

it was well done because Charles and Magneto had great roles. Thats the main goal, if Fox nails that, any x-men movie will be great.
the rest is just nitpick

Lordy, they reshot the third act, so no idea how it will go. With that said Days of Future Past did not feature the X-Men in costume during the third act (at least in the past), and that is considered by many to be the best of the mainline series.

I am more worried that the movie will lack the epic scope that a Phoenix story needs more than how many scenes they're in the yellow and blue, which after not getting for the last two movies, folks are still salty as hell now when they get comic book like costumes in this one.

There are, of course, more important concerns than the costumes. But this is the last X-Men movie from this FOX era, so it's not hard to understand why some people want so bad to see them in full costume, in full action. It's the last time for this cast.

Olsen isn't supposed to know anything about Scarlet Witch.
Her job is to play the character as written on the page.

To most of his friends in the film, its not Henry Mccoy, it's Hank Mccoy.

Elizabeth Olsen doesn't know any of the stones/gem. She doesn't know anything about Scarlet Witch.

@I Am The Knight

What do you say about Olsen?

:hehe:

Lovely to see that you think about me :o

I will give Olsen a pass because she hasn't been playing Wanda for that long and she is certainly not one of the main characters in the Avengers. Also she's being asked specific questions. Unlike Lawrence who has been playing Mystique since 2010 and still doesn't know simple things like the NAMES of characters :lmao:

There is not much difference really. If you wanna think bad of Lawrence for not knowing stuff then you can't let someone else off the hook.

Then again it's not their job to know everything. It's their job to do their job.

All I ask of the actors who play these roles is that they know their character as written on the page.
Research is good, but if you go strictly by the comics then there is nowhere for the characters to go.

"Apocalypse" is just a brilliant superhero movie, and maybe the X-Men movie closest to the comic book world. The final fight had great CGI, great direction, true emotion and passion behind it and when Jean "phoenixed out", it was fantastic! The cinematic version of Apocalypse/En Sabah Nur was very sci-fi and compelling.
To me the movie is a genre masterpiece, the criticism is beyond me.

To each their own, when it comes to villains, I will take Thanos over Apocalypse any day.
But, we will have a much more compelling antagonist in the title character of Dark Phoenix.

The source material is one thing, the movie universe is another. I basically made a remark about Turner not knowing who Henry McCoy is even though he had a relatively basic role in two movies she was in. Maybe she was nervous and the name didn't ring a bell at the moment. Maybe she remembers him as Hank. Either way it seemed a bit weird to me and still does.

In all honesty I don't read much into stuff like that and I couldn't care less who's a fan of the comic books and who isn't, as long as they can act and with the right guidance do a good job in the adaptation they're in. Heath Ledger never read any comic books and Megan Fox is a huge comic book nerd and look at the result of that. It's a nice bonus for us fans to feel closer to an actor and like him more but at the end of the day it doesn't make any actual difference whatsoever.

I'm sure there are tons of actors (including the ones at the MCU) who had, and still have, no idea about comic books in general or even regarding the characters they're playing. But it's different to what I pointed out. And if I'd noticed something similar in any other studio or franchise I would have made a similar remark. It's not a contest. At least not for me. I'd honestly prefer it if you and other people didn't always reply like it has to be. But I guess there's so much hate on the movie in this thread that some of you feel the need to defend it, therefore it's sometimes easy to misunderstand where people may be coming from.

Why are you telling such big fat crazy LIES when the video shows otherwise.

She got the answers right in the video. While she hesitated on the chaos magic question, she knew Wanda impregnated herself with twins.

Stop lying.

True,Elizabeth loves Wanda and her comics.

This is all fair. I will just add though fans may never exactly get the level of intricacy and interpersonal relationships they wish. I know Marvel will do better at building up all the characters, but there are those dynamics that will still shine and those that will be more for hardcore fans only. I suppose an MCU analogy of this is how important Steve and Tony's friendship is... and how so few care about Vision and Scarlet Witch's romance, or that between Banner and Natasha.

Movies just don't have the bandwidth for the level of subplots within subplots that comics (or television) does, but the MCU will at least make you care about most of the characters, whereas Kinberg is only now putting in the effort to Scott and Jean on their seventh film, and Storm is still little more than a cipher. That I confess will be the most damning aspect of the Fox era, just like how the Charles and Erik or Charles and Logan relationships will be some of the highlights, as I'd argue they're better than what's in the comics.
Getting everything right will be very difficult and I don't think fans are saying Marvel need to achieve that. I don't think many care about the Banner Widow romance at all, but would rather the Vision SW one was given more focus (although I think they did the emotional side of that well at the end of IW, just not enough beforehand). I would hope the MCU Cyclops Wolverine relationship is on a par with the Cap Iron Man relationship. I've always thought of these 2 relationships in a similar way to Superman Batman in the JL and Kirk Spock (the partnership between one honourable, traditional boy scout type and one wilder character - funny how in Kirk's case unlike the other 3, he is actually the leader).

Most of us X-fans who have complained about the Fox films still love a fair number of the films they have made. There are good films there, just not necessarily good X-Men team films. The best stuff has come from the Xavier Magneto relationship and the solo material like Deadpool and Logan.

Honestly, I really could not care less if the actors know much about the source material outside of what is necessary for them to do the role well. It really doesn’t dictate if their performance will be good or not. Yeah, it’s cool if they know, but not mandatory.

The end result is all that matters of course, regardless of how the actor got there, but as you say it's cool. And when an actor gets there it's preferable to me at least that they looked into and got something from the material that changed my life, and was the basis of me getting excited for films like these.

It's all the more ridiculous considering HE was the one who brought up Scarlett Johansson randomly to defend Jennifer Lawrence. And now he's digging up my post again to attempt to prove a point. He hates talk about the MCU but he sure does love perpetuating it.

Time to let it go.

I think some of Lawrence's comments/statements (for some fans) came off a little disdainful. Either when she didn't care to name a few characters, or when she said she'd rather be in Guardians.

I don't like her in the X-Men as Raven, but I don't mind her as an actress in general. And I wouldn't mind seeing her in the MCU, in a proper role. Maybe even in Guardians lol
