Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I keep hearing people say its better than Apocalypse and I liked Apocalypse a lot so maybe theres hope my lizard brain will enjoy it :D:D

I don't get how you let Kinberg direct anything.

You can if you are best friends with him and can't separate your personal and private life.

You know what is more shocking? letting him direct and write everything by himself.

I almost miss Singer. Coming from a person that thinks he should have retired after DOFP.

From one of the critic reviews.

Good by and good riddance Lawrence.

Proudly been on the "she's phoning it in" train since DOFP. I got some grief for that at the time.

Honest question, what did you like about Apocalypse?

When people say Vaughn doesn't do female characters well, you only need to watch FC and see that Every. Single. Female. Character. in that movie ended up naked.

He most likely was also January's baby daddy. So no he's no good for female characters.
First Class was in a league of its own that year, Sucker Punch and Green Lanterns were mediocre but it also ahead of Thor 1 and Capitan America 1 but Kinberg was only a producer among 4. Like I said, he is the kid in school that does nothing and gets an A for working in a ''team project''.
I actually don't know why you quoted me.

I liked Oscar Isaac in the role, his makeup and stuff didnt bother me, I thought he played it well. I liked the cast and thought they worked well together. Even though the pacing was definitely off I was riveted by the climax when they all bandied together against Apocalypse and the Horsemen and I damn near cheered when Jean exploded into the Phoenix Force. Also the Weapon X sequence made me so freaking happy to finally see that whole thing done RIGHT. There were a lot of fan service-y moments like that I felt very serviced by. I know its a flawed movie but those aforementioned points hit my sweet spot as an X fan.

I suspect we won't see Iceman for quite a long time. The rest depends on the scripts really. Though I also think people should be wary about the character treatment in the MCU as well. Not in regards to their personality or at least basic character traits, but somehow people seem to be under the impression we'll have like 20 well developed main characters in one movie at any given time.
I doubt MCU would keep the Iceman in the refrigerator that long, Xpecially FoX didn't even use him after Dofp. As for the other 19, of course no one should eXpect that Marvel would adapt them all in a small amount of time like into 2 to 3 years and get it right, that obviously would take more than a decade.

Yep, these are the same reasons I enjoy it. It looks DANG GOOD in 4K UHD too!

And the hits just keep coming.

Kinberg on why Wolverine wasn't included in Dark Phoenix:
“There was an element of this being Jean’s story. And I was committing so fully to it that I didn’t want to run the risk of pulling away from Jean by going to the well of a fan-favorite character in these movies. I wanted this to be a very different experience of seeing an X-Men movie.”
This is Jean's story. Good answer. Dragging Hugh and Logan into it would've taken attention away from her.
But Kinberg had to add this:
“If you know the Dark Phoenix story, you’d want to really service the love story between Logan and Jean. And I think the notion of Hugh Jackman, as great as he looks for his age, and Sophie Turner — it didn’t sit well with me. Or anyone else!”
First of all "love story between Logan and Jean?" Are you sure you've read the comics, Kinby?

Secondly, you don't include Lilandra, The Imperial Guard, The Shi'ar Empire. You don't include White Queen, Sebastian Shaw, The Inner Circle, The Hellfire Club. In your movie adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga. But if you include Wolverine, you would have to follow his character arc from that run? Your movies have never been slaves to the comic books! But in a hypothetical situation where you include this one character, that’s one of the few times you follow the books? An arc, love story between Jean and Logan, that you just willed out of thin air!

Does this guy think we're stupid?

Seems to me they just lost motivation for these characters and decided to commit suicide hiring Kinberg ( too many redflags to mention). Waste of everybody's time and a talented cast. Kinda glad Sophie had some appreciation for her role though . That's the only positive snippet i can take. Was this just down to Kinberg's inexperience or studio interference or was it both.

No even China will save this movie.

6.7 on Douban.
7.1 on Taopiaopiao.

The Maoyan score will be the final nail in the coffin. Anything below an 8 on Maoyan is a death sentence for an import movie.

I'm glad we can ALL just finally sit back and agree that Kinberg is a hack and we don't have to explain ourselves. Most of us have been at that space since at least 2017 when he was announced as this movie's director.

A few since 2006 when TLS came out...

Welcome the rest of y'all.

I still remember that time before TLS came out, when he and Zak Penn were answering questions on a random X-Men Message Board, constantly assuring fans that they'd be satisfied with how Cyclops and Rogue would be treated.

Dude is not worth trusting when it comes to X-Men. Never has been.

Quick, someone hack Fox.

I remember this. Then after the movie came out I remember some sort of excuse about how "This was always going to happen with Cyclops. You knew it would!"

They could have done a great Phoenix Saga story if they continued with the characters from First Class.
Hellfire Club was introduced here and they could have flowed it through out the next 3 movies.

In short - yes he does think we're stupid.

I wish Matthew Vaughn stayed on to do this trilogy.
* if only Fox believed in his vision *

Ugh....

Last rant...

I refuse to give Kinberg any credit for DOFP.
There's no way he was the brains behind that one.

That's all folks :)

Yeah. I read a leaked draft of an early version of the screenplay back in 2014 right after the movie came out. The skeleton of the story is the same, though I daresay that the movie turned up good in spite of his script. There was a lot of improvisation in that film. That was Bryan Singer and the cast at the top of their game.
