Did you know the Dazzler was originally developed as a african american Disco Queen that had the power to make people tell the truth?

From Wikipedia:

Dazzler was originally a project commissioned by Casablanca Records in the mid-late 1970s, to be a cross-promotion in the mold of KISS who had two successful comic book tie-in super-specials by the end of 1977. Marvel Comics would develop a singing superheroine, while Casablanca would produce a singer. The two companies would then work with Filmworks and produce a tie-in motion picture; Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter wrote a treatment for the project. Excerpt from a portrait of Dazzler, depicted as African American, and the X-Men with Neil Bogart. John Romita Jr., 1979.The character was originally conceptualized as "The Disco Queen" with powers to make people tell the truth. Initially, no one wanted anything to do with the project. Marvel Comics appointed former Archie Comics writer Tom DeFalco to the character and he developed some changes to the character, namely suggesting light-based powers. Roger Stern conceived of the character's name, Dazzler, while John Romita Jr. provided pencils.Artist John Romita, Jr. originally intended for the character to resemble model, actress, and singer Grace Jones, as seen in early depictions. However, representatives from Filmworks -- wanting to promote model and actress Bo Derek -- insisted on design changes to reflect Derek's features.

This could be a good thread if we find more...

I think dazzler would of been much cooler if they stuck with the grace jones look.

Then why didn't they give Dazzler braids, damnit?!

I kinda agree...I dig the "grace jones" look.
Something more visually appealing and interesting about it.

well i've posted these on every fun facts thread iv'e seen but..

...when Cable first debuted in New Mutants 87, the creators originally intedended him to be Sam Guthrie/Cannonball returned from the future. However as we all know it all turned out different.

When wolverine first joined the x-men it was a while before he ever revealed his identity to anyone. in a battle at cassidy keep, his name was first revealed by a Leprechaun. no joke. the leprechaun calls him Logan and he replies "I don't believe in Leprechauns." Also when he was created he was intended to have a young almost teenage look. However when the mask finally came off he was actually a grizzled, hairy old looking guy.

Nightcrawler was originally a DC character intended to be a member of Legion of Superheroes.

Storm was an amalgam of two characters. A black female who would have feline attributes and the power to turn into any cat, and a white man named Tempest who had weather manipulation abilities. This explains in storm's early appearances her cat-like eyes.

WOW!!!! Dazzler started out as Afro-American?..... Leave it to Marvel to keep 98% of the mutants and superheroes "Caucasian"..... Doesn't surprise me though.

shadow cat or kitty pryde, is a real person, her names comes from a fellow student of john byrne he met at art school

One of Cyclops little known powers is to figure out angles by looking at them.....which would make him the world's best billards player

I always like to mention this: Mystique was originally planned to be Nightcrawler's father, with Destiny being the mother.

i thought there is a thread like this about marvel characters in general....

Jean Grey was initially the team's maid, bringing them blankets and such. She used a french maid uniform and used to spit on Xavier's bald to make it shine.

I read somewhere that Monet is suppose to be Bishop`s grandmother
