X-Men - Part 3

When did Rachel get her hound tattoos back, and why? I don't think we got an explanation when we saw her again when Rogue went to rescue her.

It happened during one of the miniseries leading up to "War of Kings." Rachel was sharing a fragment of the Phoenix Force with Korvus, but the fragment suddenly disappeared one day (presumably because Hope Summers was about to be born), and Rachel suddenly had her hound marks back.

It doesn't make sense, of course. She wasn't even using the Phoenix Force to get rid of the hound marks. She was just telepathically hiding them the whole time, and she was doing that without the Phoenix Force from her return in X-Treme X-Men all the way until she met Korvus in "Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire."

Actually it makes less sense than that. Rachel wasnt using her TP to hide the marks and hasnt had to for almost 2 decades. Way back in the early 90s pages of Excalibur, she was healed by the Phoenix Force and a consequence of that was the removal of her Hound marks. For them to come back out of nowhere makes little sense as she technically shouldnt have them at all. My guess is that whichever writer wrote them back forgot all about this or wasnt aware and thought she was using her TP to mask it. Im guessing when she lost the PF, it weakened her powers and skill with them? Or she really doesnt care who sees them anymore? I dont know. Thats the best I can come up with

If her hound marks were removed when she was in Excalibur, then why did she still have them when she became Mother Askani?

Sometimes I think every character in the X-Men needs their own personal editor.

Another inconsistency but considering she doesnt become Mother Askani till decades into her own future, that one is a bit easier to forgive as something could have happened to bring them back. What happened in space however had no valid reasoning attached to it

I swear any time you have the words "Grey", "Summers", or "Phoenix" involved Marvel can't help but make things overly complicated.

I thought she's already been Mother Askani, but she can't remember it because of something involving Cable's timeline being erased, and she got shoved out of that timeline as if she had never arrived.

I think that applies to most anybody in the X-Men, not just people with those names.

doesnt matter. My point is there was a 40-50 year gap in her own personal history between when she left the time stream in Excalibur and we saw her as Mother Askani in Future Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix with the hound marks. Theres any number of reasons for how she got those back

Not really. The other people I can think of with as much a convoluted history is Illyana Rasputin and Psylocke, maybe even Magneto (especially when you thrown in Xorn).

Actually, Xorn doesn't complicate things at all. It was never Magneto.

Magneto's story from that time period. Got stabbed by Wolverine and was in a wheel chair. At Genosha when it was attacked and leveled. Survived and decided to turn over a new leaf after all and healed there until Xavier showed up and they began teaching the young survivors of Genosha leading to his trying to save Wanda, failing, getting depowered and repowered (by either the High Evolutionary or the Collective, I forget which) and joining the X-Men.

Xorn was just someone posing as Magneto (which I don't like but it is what it is).

He was repowered by the High Evolutionary. The Collective plays a part in the whole Xorn mess and is responsible for reviving Vulcan.

I don't find Psylocke's history that bad anymore. Back in the 90's it wa a hassle but these days it is what it is. There's nothing to add on or go back to.

Personally I don't either. She's my favorite character so I've done my homework. But I remember once someone asked Psylocke's history and if she was a telepath or a telekinetic and my answer was three paragraphs long. :oldrazz:

Psylocke has had 3 body switches and has had her powers altered multiple times not to mention the retcons to her origin and 1st body switch. I'd say she's one of the X-man with one of the mist convoluted history, especially for a new reader just learning her

The only thing a new reader needs to know about her is that she's a super sexy badass chick that's the X-Men's version of the Black Widow.

Didn't she strike a deal with Mephisto to remove the hound marks but only if her marriage was annulled?

 this

maybe until they get into her backstory, which Remender is doing now in UXF. That Otherworld stuff has been largely ignored since the 70s and is foreign to most X-men fans of hers who grew to know her in the 80s and 90s. Psylocke has had many different incarnations and she is very convoluted

Remender knows his stuff. He even mentioned when Brian killed Slaymaster by smashing his head in with a rock after he blinded Betsy while she was Captain Britain.

Slaymaster was one of the few muslim comic charcters who had been around before 9/11. There is a new Slaymaster around now who was in Deadpool. I always thought Slaymaster would make a good Daredevil villain as well.

He does know his stuff. No one said he doesnt. Im just saying, thats a whole lot of stuff tacked onto one character. You can try to simplify it, but you really cant when talking about Psylocke. Hers isnt quite as straight forward as other characters

Marvel's latest WonderCon teaser is promoting the apparent return of X-Treme X-Men in July 2012, a series that initially ran from 2001 to 2004.

The minimalist teaser image, released Wednesday, didn't provide any more details, but the accompanying text stated that more will be revealed at 4 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, March 17, during Marvel senior vice president of publishing Tom Brevoort's "Talk To The Hat" panel. On Monday, Marvel teased news of a Captain Marvel project, also slated for July 2012, at the same panel.

The original X-Treme X-Men ran for 46 issues, all written by veteran X-Men writer Chris Claremont and focusing heavily on Storm, Sage, Bishop and Rogue. Whether or not this project has any connection to the previous series, beyond title, remains to be revealed. WonderCon takes place this Friday through Sunday, March 16 to March 18, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
