FOX’s X-Men movies have a somewhat hit or miss history with iconic Marvel storylines. Sometimes they get them right, while other times they find themselves way off the mark. Luckily for the studio, the newly rebooted timeline offers chances for them to correct errors of the past – and it seems that’s exactly what they intend to do. New rumors seem to indicate that FOX will use Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey for an adaptation of The Dark Phoenix Saga following the events of X-Men: Apocalypse.

This rumor comes to us courtesy of Heroic Hollywood. During a recent episode of Scoop Drop, it came forth that FOX may in fact attempt to once again try The Dark Phoenix Saga, and that the events of Apocalypse will lead to that storyline. The episode also cites quotes from director Bryan Singer, who recently alluded to something dark and malicious growing inside of Sophie Turner’s young Jean Grey. It’s not much to go on, but if it’s true it will see one of the X-Men’s most iconic storylines brought to life on the silver screen.

The Dark Phoenix Saga has become iconic as one of the most infamous X-Men stories of all time, if not one of the most legendary arcs in all of comics. Centering on X-Men member Jean Grey, the storyline sees her possessed by a malevolent entity known as the Phoenix Force. The possession turns her against her former teammates and develops her into one of the most powerful enemies ever faced by Charles Xavier’s squad of mutants. FOX previously attempted the storyline all the way back in 2006 with the laughably bad X-Men: The Last Stand, but as most fans have generally reviled that film as hands down the weakest of the entire X-Men franchise, so it’s best left forgotten.

For the X-Men franchise to return to The Dark Phoenix Saga logically makes sense. Although the timeline reset with the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, it doesn’t change the fact that Jean Grey as a character always had something sinister inside of her. This provides an opportunity for FOX to once again broach the iconic storyline while making important deviations from what didn’t work in The Last Stand.

If FOX does indeed decide that they want to do The Dark Phoenix Saga again, then we are completely on board. However, we won’t know for sure if that’s the direction they will go with the story until X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27. Keep your fingers firmly crossed, Marvel fans; I know I certainly will.

I'm totally stoked for this if the rumored plot is true! :woot:

I'm firmly in a wait and see place right now. I'm bored of prequels. Maybe I'll wanna see more after Apocalypse *shrugs*

X-Men: Apocalypse isn't prequel.
We have new timeline right now.
It's something dark inside Jean, so again there won't be any cosmic bird.
Bring on Jason Stryker aka Mastermind.

I highly, highly doubt that the X-men sequel is going to be filming this year. So, 2017 is out.

It will be either 2018 or 2019, will be interesting to see what films make it to 2017 and 2018

As Bryan said, give me 'Proteus' first.
Mr. Snister, then we can have Dark Phoenix, it's too early now.
Next trilogy:
1. Proteus
2. Dark Phoenix
3. Mr. Sinister

I highly doubt Singer is directing the next X-men movie. And I would imagine no other directors are eager for Proteus. Let him do a few non-X films, then let him return when he is ready.

Next Full X-Men film Isn't coming till 2019.Too early to say if Singer is directing next film or not.20,000 leagues going into production in fall.so if next film is indeed coming in 2019 he could still do it.

Yeah I don't think there will be a "X-Men sequel" next year... Wolverine 3 is coming out next year... and if things finally go smoothly for Gambit, it would come out in October of 2017.

There won't be one in 2018 either.

The only reason they were able to get Apocalypse out two years after DOFP was because the same director was returning and more importantly, Singer and Kinberg started developing and writing the script, while they were in post on DOFP, months before that film was even released.

2019 is the absolute earliest for the next film.

So basically the sequel in essence would be a reboot of the 2000 X Men film

X-Men: Apocalypse isn't prequel.
We have new timeline right now.

Meh. Still a timeline of the past, informed by future events, with younger versions of characters we've already seen.

Hopefully Apocalypse brightens my horizons.

Apocalypse is essentially a prequel to the new future that we saw in DOFP.

Other than them saying that they aren't necessarily beholden to it...

Sure... because ignoring it makes it a good thing when it surely won't.

Apocalypse is essentially a prequel to the new future that we saw in DOFP.
When Cable comes from further future, since then we will have 3rd timeline, and end of DOFP doesn't count. Unless 'Deadpool' movie is in another dimension to FC, DOFP and Apocalypse, but Kinberg said it's same timeline.

?

Deadpool 2016 and the end of DOFP are part of the new timeline and are both set in the present days. So how does Cable coming from the future discard the new future DOFP scene?

since a certein scooper was right on wolverine being in final apocalype trailer
afterall that opens door for next full X-Men film being based on dark phoenix,
or fox doing a 2 part adaptain of phoenix story similar to avenger:Infinity war, justice league and final chapets of books being done as 2 part films like last harry potter twilight and hungar games.

I just hope they will set it in 1993!

And please no "Part One" and "Part Two" for the titles. Thats just overdone to death!

I don't think there will be another 10 year timejump.

I agre the part 1 and 2 for these kinds of films is stupid.

The new actors signed up for a 3 picture deal right? Thats what I heard with the new Cyclops.

So I guess
1st film - 80s period film
2nd film - 90s period film
3rd film - Battle of the Atom-ish film

Apocalypse is coming out this year. Its not getting a sequel till 2018. Theres no time to film and release one for next year, especially when they have other X films lined up for 2017. It would be oversaturation.

90s? Oh god no. Really wouldnt make sense. They just got a new team. They should let them marinate and work within the timeline they created instead of jumping ahead. I dont see what being set in 1993 will do for them. At this point, time almost feels irrelevant. Anything told in the 90s, can be told where they are at in the 80s. I cant imagine what plot device would necessitate it needing to jump ahead 10 years yet again. Do we really need to have that done THREE movies in a row?

Eh, as if jumping into the 80s from the 70s made any sense. If they want to time jump, they can. Anyway, with the ten year jump, the team would be more xperienced in battle and training.
