This time last year (24, 25th May - can't remeber which date lol) X-men 3:The Last Stand open world wide.
And I remeber all the hype these part of the boards where metal really lol, so busy.
Now and I think everyone was looking forward to this film, I so was X-men being my fave comics.

So before the film we had Marketing by Fox - What where your views on that.
Did you like the posters - I did well the character ones.
TV spots - Did you think Fox over done of them or did it ok.
Clips - Lots of clips came out loads.

See they did really advertise the film a lot.
But what was your first impression after seeing it, I know most people didn't like it as much as they thought.
I for one have 'issues' with it lol.

But my first impression was Shocked I came out like - - I think thats a shocked smilie lol.
But I was as I think all the deaths, well Prof X I didn't know that was coming and the film really, the way they treated some characters and I felt let down, the way they wasted Phoenix a great story and they waste it, I mean how much did she do in that film, nothing really she just stood there not a lot of lines at all.
Scott - I think most people where annoyed unless your a Logan lover.

But I think they improved on Storm a lot, she did well.

So this thread is a re-cap of last year when we XHypeFans where like :woot: - yeah X-men.
And just to re-think about the film now and think well was it over hyped? Was it just not as good or 'I like it now when I hated it when I first saw it'

Just a nice chat, no arguments. lol I know what happen on some threads.

In retrospect the experience I had getting hyped for that movie completely spoilt it and, in a way, made it seem like more of a let-down. I went in there knowing with about 75% certainty that Cyclops was toast, most of the major plot points, and that the movie was going to seem like it was directed by a kid with ADD. Spoiling myself only made me hope that much more that all the horrible things I'd been hearing about it were FALSE and that it would still fulfil my highest hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, no... but still.

It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't as good as it should have been.

This place went berserk after the movie came out... I put in my 2 cents every now and then but for the most part stayed out of the cyclical "Cyclops LIVES!" and "Halle Berry Sucks!" arguments and tried to remain as neutral as I could. I don't miss those times at all, for me the best part about these boards was the year of build-up when our imaginations could run wild.

When I watch it now, I really enjoy it. Not quite as much as X1 but probably on par with X2. I'm glad they made it, I just wish it could have lived up to the massive amount of hype built up around it. In reality, very few movies ever do, but I was kinda hoping this would be the best. The Revenge of the Sith that made the whole 6 year wait just perfect.

I like to think it's still out there, somewhere. :) And when it comes, I'll be ready to hype it up again!

I didn't spoile myself, I don't like to.
So when I saw it I was like 'oh my god no!!!' lol. I wanted to shout out 'Scott run away' when Jean kissed him and all the weird line things came up.

I do enjoy some parts of it, I can sit and watch it but there are parts when I like arrr lol thats wrong or something.
But its not as good as X1 & X2.

I like your last line, when it comes again I to will be hyped up and hope it is as good as X2.

Interesting topic.

Marketing: Fox is good at marketing, and I don't think there's much more to say about it.

Posters: I wasn't impressed. As far as I know they didn't even bother expanding beyond the 1 teaser poster (featuring Wolverine's claws) in the US. The international posters were better but nothing to write home about.

TV spots: Too many, but that's probably because Fox felt it necessary since the studio didn't put together a second trailer. Scenes such as Iceman and Pyro's showdown were almost completely spoiled for me because nearly all of it was shown in the tv spots, of which there were many.

Clips: Again, too much was probably revealed if you watched them.

Overall, I think everything about this movie was pressed for time. The advertising campaign, although ultimately fine, wasn't nearly as diverse as the previous two movies, especially in the US (surviving on 1 teaser poster and 1 actual trailer). It seems like things were handled better in other parts of the world for which Fox had more time to prepare... or so it seems to me.

I completely forgot about all the theories about Cyclops' survival and the people hoping that maybe there were different versions of the movie floating around. Wow. Sometimes I forget just how much hypothesizing there is about these movies before they come out.

One thing I won't forget is that I saw X3 opening day in between getting ready for my sister's wedding, which the next day. So this weekend is also her first anniversary (so fast!), and now I'm shopping for baby clothes...she's pregnant with her first kid. :woot:

I liked the movie a lot more than I thought I would...the only thing that really disappointed me was that I knew too much about the movie before I saw it. I took it as a lesson learned. Today I stay so far away from spoilers that I knew next to nothing about Spiderman 3 when I saw that on opening night. I wouldn't even watch the last trailer.

I'm seeing Pirates 3 later today, and I know next to nothing about that. Plus I'm staying away from The Dark Knight and all things Indiana Jones.

It's just more fun that way. :yay:

I knew about 90% of the movie, so it really was a let-down. I already knew there would be no firebird, Cyclops and Xavier died, Rogue took the cure, etc. But even knowing all fo this, somehow, I still expected the movie to be wonderful. I trusted Ratner, and the writers, who I liked a lot. Unfortunately, after watching, I finally noticed it wasn't even near to the predecessors.

I loved the character posters.

I remember the Rogue Spot. Quite liked it. But I didn't watch any of the clips, to not get spoiled.

I also remember that I had a bittersweet experience on the cinema. While I loved some parts, It was definitely lacking something. Lacking the "something" that made me go crazy about X1 and X2. It just didn't feel the same.

When I saw Jean killing Scott, that was the moment I stopped caring about it. And when the TERRIBLY written scene of Mystique being cured appeared, I just had disappointment written over my face. It was laughable. Not even bad movies have such bad scenes like the Mystique one. When I saw the scene of the X-men getting inside the X-jet, I almost drowned. I couldn't belive the movie was already going to the third act, before most of the story being told.

Yes, I still had shivers when the initial credits rolled, I still got touched on the Xavier funeral, I still loved Phoenix vs Xavier, and I loved how "X-menish" their entrance to Alcatraz felt. But the movie had too many down points to not care about. And as time passed, even though I tried to not be upset, I had to notice that it got worse.

I agree with that.

Although I knew a lot about X2, and it still was one of the best cinema experiences I've ever had.

I agree with what Halcahol said, I was never so spoilt for a movie than I was for X3 and that did affect my initial enjoyment of the movie. It actually took until it came out on DVD for me to properly enjoy the movie as enough time had passed since I last saw it in the cinemas so it was somewhat fresh again.

Aw yes, this time last year when I was expecting the th big pay off...only things I knew about the movie was from the book, and the answers from the writers(the answer they gave after the movie was just bad), the misleading marketing...how Halle berry got most of the blame for characters...and the fan base just split after this movie....after watching the movie i was fine with it a little disappointed but repeat viewing made the movie get worse.....

Awww cute an anniversary.

But see I have to at least watch trailers, then I kind of guess what will happen, not spoile it.
I think spoiling a film takes away the shock or seeing it for the first time, instead of reading it online.
As you don't know anything about it.

But I still wish this film was more better, not short either, wish it was longer.
I did like all the posters around town, looked cool.
I have only watched it once on DVD since I have had it, I watch the others more.

But this film was really hyped up.

This thread has been selected as next week's "Debate Of The Week" topic. However, I'm closing it for now so that X-Maniac's current discussion can run its full course. Expect this topic to be reopened on Monday.

Until then, enjoy the weekend and keep those debate ideas coming!

Ah nostalgia. Well Pirates 3 has officially broken X3's Memorial Day Record. It was nice while it lasted!

I loved Pirates 3. :yay:

X3? Still the same...should have been longer, should have been better. But not horribly disappointed. I actually enjoy it more now that it's away from the opening weekend madness.

The trailers were somewhat good. Didn't like any of the posters except the teaser one. One of the tv-spots got me really hyped up. The "I came for Jean" one. The clips looked crap.

See they did really advertise the film a lot.
But what was your first impression after seeing it, I know most people didn't like it as much as they thought.
I for one have 'issues' with it lol.
My first impression after the movie was pure rage. I wanted to visit certain people with baseball bat. I think I've never been so angry because of a movie and never will be. I thought, man that was just a movie but I'm in fcking flames right now! I even shouted "PASKA!" (crap/shait in English) when the credits rolled.

I tried to watch it again when the DVD came out and someone uploaded it to YouTube. The first 5-10 minutes were enough for me. Couldn't take it anymore. The anger was back. "Sometimes when you cage a beast the beast gets angry." Or just show the beast X-Men 3. That should do it.

Me and my friends have a criteria for movies after X3 "At least it was better than X3." But then someone says "Yeah, but that's not hard to top."

I think most people would have liked to visit someone with a weapon of choice.
I got the DVD but only watch it once, see I hate watching it with people who are just film fans as there like ''Logan is great, he loves Jean, she loves him'' - no no no no, Jean and Scott and Logan is annoying.
So I after seeing the film at the cinema with them, I didn't watch it on DVD with them, they annoying me lol.

That line you post -
''Sometimes when you cage a beast the beast gets angry."
I think now that describes some fans, lol about the film as most did get angry lol.
What Beast though, Jean wasn't that scary or bad in it, she stood there more then anything then there was that part at the end which wasn't as great as it could have been.

But it is sad as the first two where good and this one could have been great. But look what happens when the 'Ratner' gets his hands on things.

Over the weekend we had a house full of people who hadn't seen the movie and it happened to be on the cable channel we were already watching, so everyone stayed in their seats. There were quite a few comments throughout the film, none of them good. The general consensus amongst our guests was "Well, we didn't miss anything last year."

Is it already on cable? You’ve made clear your hate for the movie and your love for Singer, Harris and Dougherty, so it sounds like it was quite an endurance test for you. Did you sit there silently throughout the movie? Is it ALL that bad for you?

Yes it's already on cable.

When someone didn't seem to understand what was happening with certain aspects of the storyline or the characters, I tried to fill in the blanks. Only one person sat through the credits and caught the extra scene but that was met with a WTF? reaction.

I do like Bryan and the boys and realize that because I know them and not Ratner it's not completely fair. But considering Famke, Rebecca and Anna are Bryan's girls I don't feel that guilty. :yay:

Do you know then what Bryan (and the writers) particularly liked or disliked about X3 and whether he (and they) regret not having been involved in seeing the X2 story through to his/their own idea of completion?
Bryan seems more suited to X-Men than to Superman, as others have noted.

In a way, it's a shame SR didn't get put on hold so Bryan could finish his X-Men ideas. X-Men should have come first, so as not to leave too long a gap after the previous movies. By leaving for SR and then tempting James Marsden away, he created some very difficult circumstances.... Would Cyclops still have been killed off if Marsden had stayed with Fox, I wonder?

Your thoughts please....

Bryan has stated his public opinion. Whatever he told his friends in private is going to stay that way.

Scott's fate was punishment for Marsden working with Singer. I don't think that's exactly a secret.

Bryan definitely had a draft in place. I don't know if Fox didn't have the rights to those ideas or simply chose to go in another direction.

Lord Singer's movie would have been better, but Lord Singer's movie still wouldn't have been X-Men. None of these movies perfectly reflect X-Men. None of the characters are themselves.

Well...okay...but....

Bryan Singer knew full well that the next movie would include the Phoenix Saga (in some form or other), and Cyclops is part of that saga. So why did Singer take Marsden away, and why did Marsden agree to leave the X-franchise? They are partly to blame for what happened with Cyclops in X3.

Regarding Bryan's alleged draft, it's been said he offered his ideas to Fox (no evidence of that though), but there would be possible copyright issues on Fox using those ideas if Singer wasn't attached to the project.

So, you can see how circumstances developed into the X3 we did get....
