How dependable is it? I'm planning to buy it at Best Buy, if you buy one, they give you the Heroes HDDVD for free, that is freakin awesome.

But, anybody have the HD player, good quality?

I dont have one as I dont have a 360, but Id jump on that deal simply for the Heroes HDDVD which retails for $99.99, although you can definetly find it cheaper, not to mention the 5 free discs

for the people who own the HD Player for the XBOX 360, is it good, longlasting, blah blah

I mean, i ask because obviouslly there is a difference if i buy say a SOny Blue Ray player versuses a cheaper BlueRay player.................. is there a diiference based on quaility?

I got it a couple of months ago. I don't have any experience with any other HD DVD players, but this one is awesome. Haven't had any problems and it plays great. I'm glad I bought it.

^ What he said

I currently have over 50 HD discs and still use the add-on as my only player. It gives a fantastic picture and will output in dolby 5.1 which is all anyone really needs anyway

Don't forget you also get a free copy of king kong in the box and you can print off a mail in voucher from the official HD DVD website:

www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com

which will give you another 3 free HD DVDs from a limited (but pretty bloody good) selection.

So you're getting Heroes, 4 free HD DVDs and ther player for $180???????

If I was in the US right now i'd buy it just for the free movies :D

You have over 50? There aren't even 50 good titles out yet, lol.

Yea, i second this. Just picked up Transformers on it and it freakin rocked. A sick movie just got sicker in HD.

yup

Just got it

what a deal
I got the HD Player, Heroes Season One, and i guess I will get 5 free HD'DVD in the mail through the rebate

where on the site is the mail voucher

Sounds like a good deal. too bad you'll likely have to sell it next year, haha.

All of those movies besides Full Metal Jacket suck.
I'll get one, if not for the fact the Indy series will get released on this.

the thing, full metal jacket, the frightners and black rain are awesome.

I'd also get aeon flux and ebay it

It works great. The only problem I ever had was with Transformers. Which was because I ****ed up the downloading part. Had to unplug the thing, turn on the box, plug it back in, delete the cookies, then unplug the power for 20 seconds and plug it all back in to get it to work.

But people said that was common.

I have the add-on, and then got a standalone (the HD-A2) in May. The add-on is a great great player! You will not be disappointed! Head on over to the "Is Blu-ray in the lead now?" thread in the Sony Games section and let us all know what you think of the format so far, and get a lot of great news about the format! (I still think the thread should be retitled "The Official Next-Gen Movie Format Thread" and moved to General Movies...)

Actually you get 5 free movies via the MIR, so for $180 he's getting the HD DVD player add-on, a universal remote, "King Kong" HD DVD, "Heroes: Season 1" HD DVD, and 5 more free HD DVDs. :)

HELL of a deal!

Most of those movies are watchable, but i'd only pay for about 5 of those. I guess you just have a lot of money to spend.

Thats ****ing crazy. Seriously. I just can't see how people can spend that much on DVDs. Its like an addiction or something. Billy Madison? Really? That movie warrants paying the extra money to see it in HD?

I love that movie and never got it on regular DVD, so I figured "why not?". It was only like $14 so it's not like I tore a hole in my pocket to get it.

Plus, once you go High-Def it's painful to try to go back...

I love a lot of movies too, but **** man, that list is just nuts. So basically you get them just to have them? You must be so rich that all you do is watch HD DVDs all day and don't have to work. Thats the only way I can imagine rationalizing spending that much money on it.

lol Man, I wish!

I work as a fulltime salesperson at Circuit City at $9/hr, so I'm far far farrrr from rich. I live in Ohio where there's absolutely nothing to do, and I don't bother getting cable, cause I just download the 3 or 4 shows I watch every week. So aside from playing XBOX360, my free time away from work is spent watching movies and lounging around on this forum all day.

And you'd be amazed at some of the prices you can get on these discs if you know the right places to look. Buying movies from Amazon.com has saved me LOADS of money that I would've wasted if I bought them in-store.

Also, keep in mind that I started my collection November last year when the XBOX 360 HD DVD player came out, so 70 titles over a year isn't too bad.

I don't drink or smoke or anything drug related, so think about how much money so many people throw out on snorting, smoking, chewing, and drinking. At least my addiction is something I can appreciate over and over again, and isn't harmful to me :)

I don't think you would be able to afford drinking, smoking or just plain going out with that 70 DVDs a year thing you got going. I mean, really how many times can a person watch the same movie?
