I am new to this whole xbox live thing so bare with me :o

I want to plug my 360 into a computer monitor that supports HDMI, so will I be able to use my computer and 360 without having to rearrange cables? Will I have to do anything extra?

Also, since I am trying to put it near my computer I say I might as well plug it into my computer to get the internet, instead of buying the wireless network adapter. Is it possible to just plug an ethernet cable from the 360 to the tower? Thanks a lot in advance.

to the first part...i have no idea....to the second question...yes you can...thats how i got mine hooked up

Does your monitor have two HDMI ports? It's literally as simple as having enough ports to plug both your 360 and your PC in.

Thanks to both of you.

Corp, well I already have the monitor connected to the tower with the standard connection, whatever it's called. The HDMI is free, so that means that I CAN plug the 360 in? Also, will there be something like "INPUT" on a television that I would have to press so I can go from the computer to the 360?

You should be able to just plug the 360's HDMI cord into the HDMI port, yeah. I don't know about switching to that input since it's been a few years since I had a monitor and I never had more than one input on the ones I did have. If you Google your specific monitor, you should probably be able to find the manual online.

okay thank you so so so much! I'll look into it.

EDIT: Just to let you know, I have found everything I need...just going to connect it tomorrow!

I'm sure you checked already, but just make sure your 360 has an HDMI slot. Older 360s do not have one.

Yeah, thanks. I had read about that, so I was definitely worried, but I checked and do have it. Only have had my 360 for a little over a year.

I figured I'd hijack this thread instead of posting a new one.
Do any of you guys use your 360 to play DVDs? I'm getting a new one soon(once the price drops) And I'm sorta worried about the 360 red ringing on me(do they still do this, or is RROD a problem of the past?) Also, how is the DVD quality, does it upscale to 1080p?
Thanks.

I've never used my 360 to play DVDs, the thing is a ticking time bomb as it is. I don't need to give it more work to do.

No, I don't believe so. Mine displays in SD

Xbox 360 Elite console: The console is equipped with an HDMI port, HDMI cable, a black wireless controller and black Xbox LIVE® headset. It also comes with three powerful core processors, 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio, anti-aliasing for smooth textures, full surround sound, and DVD playback with upscaling capabilities right outof the box.

Q. Does the Xbox 360 upscale standard DVD movies?

A. Absolutely, but only if you’re using the VGA or HDMI connection. During the so-called “Spring Dashboard Update” Microsoft enabled DVD upscaling over the VGA connection — and upscaling over HDMI has been there since the introduction of the HDMI AV cable — so if you’re using VGA or HDMI you’ll see movies in whatever resolution you’ve set in the dashboard. However, this is only over VGA or HDMI. Also, with Fall Dashboard Update, standard DVD movies will be upscaled to 1080p on displays that support it, again only over the VGA connection or the HDMI connection.
