NBC Backs Off Madonna Crucifix Scene

American Family Association Chairman Donald E. Wildmon says NBC will not air the scene showing Madonna being crucified in the upcoming November special.

"NBC does not want a fight with AFA and the Christian community,” said Wildmon. "NBC may wiggle and wobble, but in the final analysis, they will not show that scene. We expect a public announcement from NBC canceling the scene within two weeks.”

According to New York Daily News, the NBC network is retreating from an earlier announcement of its plan to air a two-hour concert special featuring Madonna hanging on a cross wearing a fake crown of thorns.

NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly had said earlier Madonna considered the scene mocking the crucifixion of Christ the highlight of her show. "We (NBC) viewed it and didn't see it as being inappropriate."

However, his opinion changed quickly after NBC came under tremendous pressure from American Family Association and its supporters to cancel broadcasting of Madonna’s blasphemous actions.

Wildmon said if the networks continue to show their disrespect and animosity toward people of the Christian faith, the opposition against them will only grow stronger.

 And we didn't have to threaten anyone's life.

I agree with this. I don't like what she is doing with it. I feel she is mocking it.

I dislike any attention ****e who jabs at the crucifixion. Madonna, Kanye West and whomever else. Good call NBC.

WTF! I'm not a Madonna fan, but why did NBC pu$$y out? Some Christian group says they don't like it, so NBC removes it?! This is a matter of freedom of expression, and by caving in to this group, NBC is trampling it.

NBC is a privately owned company. If they feel something like that would affect their ratings or earnings in some way, it's perfectly fine for them to decide against airing it.

I do. And obviously many others.
I'm not a Madonna fan, since I think pop music fails to rise above the contents of my toilet.

As for NBC, I watch Law and Order and Sunday Night Football.

Besides, it not like jesus invented crucifixion :woot:

Madonna is a has-been...

My main focus is watching Oprah die.... I want to see this ****ing **** of a woman gone from this planet...

Yeah it's all about the bottom line. NBC want to make sure that their ratings don't suffer.

I don't know how I feel about Madonna's crucifix scene, nor do I know how I feel about the Christian watchdog groups threatening anyone and everyone who talks badly/mocks/etc. Christianity.

Did you feel that way when the Muhammad cartoon was printed???

“You do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

bottom line they don't want to have thier own superbowl halftime Janet Jackson blunder...

it's understandable considering the ratings war ABC/NBC & CBS have had for the last 25 years...

Economic pressure is not the same as death threats. So what's the problem??

Well, celldog and his idiotic threads for one thing

celldog, why not just state the actual reasoning behind this thread?

Hey, Scientology had to start somewhere. :o

Pfft. I hate censorship...and Christian bull****. Apparently they've never heard of free speech. The name American Family Association is interesting too. I mean, it's not like Christians are the only people who believe in "family values." Arrogant bastards. I don't blame NBC. They're not the bad guys here. There's nothing wrong with not wanting your ratings to suffer. Overall, I feel complaints against stuff like this thinly mask the insecurities of the complainers.

Well said

It also bothers me how many Christians act like they're victims and in a minority all the time. I have this to say to those people: Bull****. You own the country. Stop whining. Yo have no idea what true oppression is.

There are people who believe that the white race must be preserved. :whatever:
Yeah, I don't think anyone has to worry about that, seeing as though we ****ing stomp anyone we perceive as threatening. :csad:

You guys have no answers. so the name calling begins!! :woot:

I mean answer the question.... If no one's life is threatened when our greatest Prophet, God and King is dragged thru the mud.....why can't others react the same way??

Maybe it's something in the teaching??? Maybe?? :whatever:
