I've been playing this game and enjoy the HELL out of it. Sure it's a bit easier than Yoshi's Old Island but it's a good continuation of the story. It's every bit as fun as YI and the reviews that keep saying it's not as good, IMHO, are fueled by nostalgia.

A few hours in I'd easily give it a solid 8/10.

well at least it's still in the zone of good which a 7 and 7.5 are . you gave it a great which what an 8 is ether way it's still worth checking out. It's when a game is around 5 and under score wise that there's a problem.

To me it's what their saying also to justify the score that's more important. if I don't see what their saying as not fun to me or fun then that's that. the the explanation should be made clear.

Ok now it's time for me to learn how to make twitch viewable on forums like you can with youtube.

Not really talking about those guys but I've seen several reviews more or less say it's not as good as the first one... Don't play it.. Play the original.

That's just lazy ass reviewing IMHO. I get that the game is easier now.. That's more or less Nintendo franchise anymore (outside of Donkey Kong and sometimes Zelda) so it honestly doesn't bother me anymore. I THINK it's getting lower scores than NSMB2 and IMHO this game is LEAGUES better than those games.

Yeah and the thing is, a lot of fans (especially the new generations) HAVEN'T played the original, and won't be able to. I think I played a level or two of the original, I don't remember. So Yoshi's New Island would be my only way to play.

Base reviews on what it is, not necessarily where it came from.

You can, but if it's a sequel, you still have that thread of connection. It's almost impossible to diverse it from the original when you're being constructive.

I look at it this way.. They complained about Yoshi's Story (Which I loved) because it was "too different" now they're complaining about this one because it's "Too close to the original."

You seriously can't win, lol.

Some folks complain about critics and reviewers, but will support them when it's convenient when it's in their favor.

Exactly.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that game reviewers are mostly completely useless no matter what score they give.

I haven't played it yet, but from all the youutbe videos I've seen, I think the music sounds annoying.

The music is more or less the same music from Yoshi's island...

Not even close. That's like saying the music from MM1-3 and the Wily Wars is the same.

..ok. Maybe I just don't give a ****, at all, about music in a Nintendo platformer.

<< How to read and understand sales

On July 24th, Nintendo released Yoshi’s New Island for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The game sold just 58,285 copies in its first week. By comparison, 2007′s Yoshi’s Island DS sold 303,114 copies at launch. That’s quite the difference.

So, did the new game flop? I’m not sure. Yoshi’s New Island is actually part of Nintendo’s “Monthly Recommended Software Campaign” for the 3DS. Anyone that buys a brand new 3DS between July 24th and August 31st can download the game for free. Naturally, that affected sales to some extent, but without a shipment number, it’s hard to say just how much.

Meanwhile, 5pb published Corpse Party: Blood Drive for the PS Vita. The game sold 13,688 copies, which is in line with the launch sales of previous games in the series. Below is a look at how those games—all of which were on PSP—performed:

(2010) Corpse Party – 13,566
(2011) Corpse Party: Book of Shadows – 15,249
(2012) Sachiko’s Game of Love – Hysteric Birthday 2U – 7,301

(That last one is something of a spin-off, hence the lower sales.)

Also released last week was Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late for PlayStation 3. Arc System Works published the game, and it sold 9,171 copes in its first week.

The top-20 software sales chart for last week is as follows:

Older Fans Skipped Out On Yoshi’s New Island In Japan. August 1, 2014 . 9:31am

Yoshi’s Island DS sold to both younger and older fans of the Mario series, but older fans skipped out on Yoshi’s New Island.

Last week, Nintendo released Yoshi’s New Island in Japan, and the Nintendo 3DS platformer sold just 58,285 copies in its first week. Japanese sales tracker Media Create added in a supplementary report that the game sold through 57.59% of its shipment.

In comparison, the last Yoshi game, 2007’s Yoshi’s Island DS, sold 303,114 copies at launch, and sold through 84.82% of its shipment at launch. Clearly, Yoshi’s New Island has not sold nearly as well, but Media Create say it’s hard to make an informed comparison between the two games.

Like we did earlier in the week, Media Create point out that Yoshi’s New Island is part of the “Monthly Recommended Software Campaign” for 3DS in Japan. From July 24th—the day of the game’s release—until the end of August, anyone that buys a new Nintendo 3DS in Japan can download Yoshi’s New Island for free.

During the week of the game’s release, the 3DS sold 38,445 units, so that is potentially the number of “lost” sales due to the campaign. Of course, even taking those lost sales into account, the game’s debut is far lower than Yoshi’s Island DS, and that needs to be addressed.

Media Create say one major difference reported by retailers is that Yoshi’s Island DS sold to both younger and older fans of the Mario series. Meanwhile, Yoshi’s New Island has a narrower audience that comprises primarily of a younger demographic.

Just why older players haven’t picked the new game up isn’t explained, but my theory is that Yoshi’s Island DS sold to an older audience because of nostalgia. The game was a remake of sorts of the SNES Yoshi’s Island, so perhaps older players bought it out of fondness for the original game they played all those years ago. New Island didn’t have nostalgia going for it, so maybe none of the older fans bothered picking it up.

Media Create add that Yoshi’s Island DS eventually went on to sell 1 million copies in Japan, and since the new game is selling primarily to a younger audience, they’re curious to see how it will perform over the summer holidays, when kids have the time to buy and play more games.
