The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 9

That bruce and alfred clip felt like something Joss would write. Everyone knows him for quips but personal character drama is something I've always liked from him too. Either way it's good.

It's really not good. It feels off. Dialogue and acting just doesn't feel right to me. This whole movie judging by the clips feels and looks like a bad tv show. The amount of money spent on it and it looks like it's made for television, especially with the bad effects. And the scenes with characters speaking to one another feels like I'm watching a soap opera or something. Very strange this film. Really poorly written dialogue and wooden acting. Ben looks like he doesn't care in that clip.

They did interact, in Alexander's party, growled at one another.

"The team needs Clark". This must be a sequel to a different BvS. Where Bruce actually interacted with Clark.

A Clark that actually showed leadership. Because there is nothing in the preceding films that show Clark to be a leader. Bruce is talking out of his ass.

I'm over that at this point. You're right, it is inconsistent. But I would rather have them continue with this version of Bruce than any other one. It's pointless to complain about that now.

You can't tell a good story if the world doesn't make sense. The emotional impact is lost, if it's one giant contradiction.

They're past the point of no return, though. Best make peace with it.

Why should anyone make peace with a crappy product. You can accept that it's crap. But you don't have to be happy or at peace with it.

You don't have to do anything, but I don't see a point in exploring an alternative timeline where Batman doesn't give a **** about Superman in JL because nobody would have accepted that either. The best thing to do was to change course, and they did. If it turns out that JL is an enjoyable movie I'm not gonna let some inconsistent canon weigh the movie down. I'd have them continue on this course.

The best thing to do was reboot and not make a Justice League this way. There's no other reasonable option.

Why does it have to be an alternative timeline? Why don't that thing all good movies do, and do some character development. Something that makes Bruce see Clark in a different light in the wake of his sacrifice for humanity, if they really want to take Bruce down the route that makes him see their team needs Clark.

But no, they decide to just give Bruce a 180 attitude change with no rhyme or reason. Nobody should accept that when they could have done this differently and better. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

Okay, but they haven't done that, so we're gonna have to deal with what happens next. I'm all for airing grievances, but all these "what-ifs" and "should-haves" become more like beating a dead horse.

I mean I would prefer a reboot, yes. But if they can soft reboot I can be OK with that and make the best of the new direction.

I'm not saying that they've done a good job of showing us that Bruce should care about Superman, but if JL establishes that he does that's cool with me because that's the course they need him to be on. I'm not gonna keep trotting out BvS and whatever development they gave Bruce there because that movie can't be changed. It's done, we're moving on.

I'm fine with a soft reboot too, but Justice League isn't enough for me to call it that.

Well Bruce did care about Superman at the end of BvS ("I failed him in life. I won't fail him in death"). They got him to that point in a ridiculous way, but that's where the character was at.

I wouldn't call JL a soft reboot but it's clear that WB wants to distance themselves from that movie and set the DCFU straight.

Yeah, it's not that it's necessarily inconsistent with where BvS left off, but it's exactly that- BvS got him there in pretty sudden and weird way, so it still feels a bit strange for Bruce to be talking about Superman/Clark with such reverence and warmth. He barely knew the guy.

Also, it felt weird and semi-inappropriate seeing Batfleck accompanied by the Elfman theme in that clip. It oddly made the whole thing feel like a fan film to me.

This movie feels so weird.

Gotta admit, the Gordon clip where Batman jumps from the gargoyle down to the ceiling in one seamless shot with Wonder Woman, and Flash, while never looking like a stunt double is sorta badass.

One thing I don't like about the idea of a reboot is that we won't get the potential promise of a performance from Henry Cavill as the Kryptonian champion of Earth.

I'd be interested to see a Matthew Vaughn directed Superman film starring Cavill. Cavill hasn't wowed me in the role yet, but I think the right direction and script he'd be fine. I think he at least deserves a chance in a non-Snyder film.

I don't see a whole universe reboot coming anytime soon. They will probably just pick and choose which elements to continue and which to ignore. The solo films will take priority over the crossovers. Maybe they'll do Flashpoint to reset a few things, like if Affleck leaves. They're not gonna mess with Gal as Wonder Woman though, obviously.

Man, is it just me though or does the whole release of Justice League feel so anticlimactic? It's supposed to be the biggest DC movie of all time, and it just feels like an afterthought, something to mark the time until Star Wars comes. All the green screen makes the movie feel smaller in scope. Affleck looks like he's checked out. Just doesn't feel like the event it's supposed to. Which is sad because that was the whole reason for shoehorning so much into BvS. I'm open to the possibility of JL turning out to be an entertaining movie, but from the clips it just feels painful. It really does feel like they made a TV movie sequel to BvS. It's the green screen. Compare the rooftop meeting with Gordon to any rooftop scene in TDKT. It's the lighting. It feels so artificial in the JL clip. It feels like we're back in the 90s all over again, only instead of the studio backlot feel it has the green screen feel. Where they are trying to give it scope but something just feels off.

Good thing WB has had a good year with Wonder Woman, Dunkirk and It...they can probably afford for this to potentially underperform. I feel like even they aren't expecting much from it, just feels like it's being kind of dumped out here and they're anxious to focus on future DC movies.

Apparently early reviews for JL are saying it's better than Wonder Woman, according to some articles I found from September and October. Better than WW? I dunno...I'm wondering who's paying whom here.

I'm taking all early reviews with a grain of salt. Remember, early reactions for BvS were over the moon. Then the embargo lifted. The embargo for BvS lifts the day before release, as of now.

I think anything is possible though. Considering Thor: Ragnarok is sitting at 93%, maybe there's a chance for JL to get good reviews. Ragnarok was admittedly entertaining and had a few good performances and some fun quirky elements, but man. It blows my mind that this is what we're letting pass for great filmmaking these days. The best thing I could say about is that it's basically like the stoner adventure movie of the MCU. Problem was, I wasn't stoned and the jokes weren't that funny. Except Goldblum. I'll take Goldblum being Goldblum any day.

*snicker*

We should be well aware at this point that raising our expectations is not the best thing to do, but we still do it.

I'll be ok with it if the JL movie broke my expectations and settled with 30%.

Why the **** is there an embargo then? If JL is so good the smart thang would be to open the critical floodgates.

Smart...WB...oh....I see...
