The way he said it, there's no way he's doing two more films as Batman, but perhaps one will do if something good comes up.

Why does Batman need voice modulation anyways? The whole robo voice thing seems to be capitulating to the Nolan philosophy to Batman's voice.

How about casting an actor with baritone sound and being a live action version of Conroy.

I didn't mind the voice mod in some scenes in BvS, but it mostly just sounds like he needs to clear his throat. :funny:

People these days tend to complain about "the voice is the same, how do people not recognize it, hurr hurr" even though I could spend a whole day explaining very easily, "If you're not looking for it, you won't see/hear it". The modulation is an easy fix. Plus in Bale's case, talking like he did for a whole film isn't good for the throat.

A funny name sprang in mind while I was watching the Begins's chase scene as he's talking to Dawes - Alec Baldwin.
An impersonation or just when he does a gruff voice with that pouty mouth.

I always thought it was supposed to be a Clint Eastwood impersonation, I blame Frank Miller for that.

If you're aiming to differentiate Batman's voice from Bruce's, the simple answer is that it's easier. It's easier for the actor and you can use an in-universe explanation as to why Batman sounds different. It could easily be used as a crutch, but I don't think it's a bad idea inherently. To be fair, Conroy's in a league of his own. Not many people can do what he did vocally with the character. Whatever you think about Bale's growl, it did feel like an expression of an alter-ego when he used it. Beyond its logistical use as a disguise, it was a persona he fully adopted when in the suit. That's why he still used it in front of people who knew better.

Yes, and Conroy had one job: to serve as a voice actor. They hired him for the job because of his tone and what he can do with that. Affleck has been using the modulator as an excuse to not put much effort into his performance and it shows.

...or the costume design team and the director thought it was the best way to go? It's not like Affleck brought a modulator from home against the wishes of everyone on set.

I completely agree. It's iconic in its own right, and it's frankly the reason for Affleck's robo-voice. They could've opted to just have Affleck do something more akin to the Keaton-whisper, but they clearly wanted to continue the tradition of having the Bat-voice be really boomy and larger than life, while taking it in a different direction.

I understand why they did it and tried to make it more clear that it was modulated, but at the end of the day I feel like it's unnecessary. Especially considering this is a universe where we're still going with Superman's disguise being glasses.

Nothing will ever beat this. No voice modulator needed.

No, but Affleck still delivers a lazy bat performance and all of that has to do with him relying on post production.

Oddly enough my favorite live-action Batman voice is the one by Stephen Amell before the show went the modulator route. That one clip with the kid asking Ben Affleck to do the Batman voice, he pretty much nailed both his modulator and Bale's.
