I just randomly found this out actually.

And I've listened to a fair bit of his material. But now, while working on my laptop, listening to his lame-a**, it dawned on me how much I wasn't laughing. The guy is a hack.

Am I alone in this?

his latest gig was very unfunny.

I'll admit that George Carlin is highly overrated, but I still find him funny. His older stuff is pretty good, anyway. And it's not for a lack of appreciation for older stand-up comedians, because I loved Pryor and Kaufman. Carlin just isn't all that funny. He gets more "I agree" applause than actual laughs.

I was really into George Carlin for a while. I thought he had a lot of things to say, said them well and with a passion, and hey, sometimes they were even funny. Then he got a bit older and his routines got more whiney than funny and striking, and his last book, When Will Jesus Bring the Porkchops, just failed to deliver. Especially compared to the other two. His last special really tells his age, too. He's getting probably too old for this stuff.

But I still think he's a lot more entertaining, if not bust a side funny, than most comedians out there. I still love his random observations, which a lot of his act centers around.

"The mayfly only lives one day, and sometimes it rains."

Yeah, there are a lot of better answers to the "You know who sucks?" question than George Carlin, suckah.

Life Is Worth Losing may not have been his best stuff, but it was a progression. Carlin has always been changing. He used to do stuff like the Hippy Dippy Weatherman, then moved on to stuff life Euphemisms, Abortion, The Sanctity of Life, There is No God. And while there was a glimmer of hope to those things, now he's progressed to a completely morbid view of Humanity. Which you can't argue with because there is so much to hate.

Personally, I still consider him my favourite. I've never felt better after listening to stand up than the first time I heard You Are All Diseased. Something about just hit me. And I didn't think Life Is Worth Loosing was as bad as everyone made it out to be, but was definitely far from his best.

If you want content, listen to Carlin, Hicks, Cross. For the funny, my first thought is Daniel Tosh. Dane Cook (Yeah, I know.) and I recently started to change my mind on Dave Chappelle.

I liked his short lived sitcom.

Carlin was great and then everyone ripped off his style and material so he doesnt seem as original or as funny now but he doesnt get enough credit for what he did for comedy.

Well, actually, you can argue with it because there's also alot to not hate.

"my god has a bigger dick than yours"

enough said

I like him. He's one of the few that can be very politically incorrect and still come off likeable. Not everyone can do it. You have to just have that kind of attitude.

You think George Carlin is bad? Try watching some of the hacks on Comedy Central.

Dane Cook.

"You know what I want? I just want a chinchilla. Just so I can be like, dude, my chinchilla is AWESOME! You'd be walking around outside, have your chinchilla on a leash and someone walks by and looks, and you're all, "this is my CHINCHILLA, mother****er!!!"

That is not a real transcript, but an example of what Dane Cook would say about a chinchilla.

Comedy Central is surprisingly one of the least funny channels on TV.

$20 says he doesn't even know what a chinchilla is.

I'm not going to say he's not funny, but George Carlin isn't very funny TO ME. I think he gained popularity & momentum in the same way Richard Pryor did, by using the "shock comic" style of stand up in a time where it wasn't mainstream, and they were breaking waves in entertainment.

His accomplishments aside, the only thing I'll watch him on is Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

"Pork Chops" was a letdown, I agree, but George Carlin does not suck. I saw him live about five or six years ago, and it was great.

He's never made me laugh, I just agree with him about everything.

But it doesn't help that they're playing this ad for the Midnight Special collection non-stop where in the clip they show of him he says:

"And I still say, if you're eating M+M's....and you're down to the last one,....
....you have an "M"."

Kevin Smith has a mancrush on Carlin

no, you know who sucks and is a hack? dane cook. leave the old timer alone, hes funny if you are his age. like bill mahr, he's 'old people' funny.

Carlin is a comedy genius. About the only funny "young" comedian I liked was Mitch Hedberg.

Cook is an idiot IMO. He had one funny 20 minute set that made him famous. I anxiously awaited anything he did after that. However, he has not made me laugh one time since that set.

So true. I saw him on Comedy Central and found him pretty funny. I bought both his CDs the next day. I listened to them, laughed at the first couple and then thought "This guy is a ******".
