So I just got back, I liked it, and give it an 8 out of 10, I thought they did as good a job as they can, with very difficult material, and left the original intact as much as possible.

BUT

There are so many great moments in the book, and they obviously had to cut some short. What top 3 things did they leave out that you were disappointed to not see.

1) Rorsarch's 'becoming Rorsarch' speech - One of my favorite monologues of all time, and one that I have read in many classes "This rudderless would is not shaped by metaphysical forces..."

2) The Photograph is in my hand - Another of my favorite moments, There is a Youtube video of this that pulls it off perfectly, and I though they at least could have said this once, or at least flashed back to the 'hands clasped in time' or something, I thought this scene was very weak. I didn't get the feel for how Dr. Manhattan sees time at all.

3) The two Bernies, Loved the interplay here, but none of it was in the movie.

All this said, I still give it an 8 out of 10, and here is to hoping the super extended DVD covers some of these up, but I doubt it will resurrect much.

1. The idiots in the theater who laughed every single time Dr. Manhattan's penis was onscreen.

2. The fact that the IMAX showing was sold out so I had to see it in a regular theater.

3. The credits... I didn't want it to end!

Sorry, I loved this movie. There may have been flaws, but it got so much right that I can't find it in my heart to complain about anything.

:applaud

I really wish they would have used Jeff Buckley's hallelujah.

  • Whatever the music cue was that played when Dan and Laurie leave Adrian at the end. I'm still :waa: over Rorschach's death and the song completely ruined the moment for me. Aaaagh. :cmad:
  • Wish there was more emotional reaction to the disaster by....everybody. It felt rushed in general at the end.
  • Happy unambiguous Hollywood ending with Sally, Laurie, and Dan. Kinda meh.

I will give my brief review tonight, and my thoughts here. Tomorrow I will be in full.

1. Some of the music cues were done at the wrong time, creating long drawn out scenes where they were not needed.
2. Since when did everyone besides Manhattan become Matrix style fighters? Should of done more TDK like fighting, and not this surreal stuff.
3. I did not care for Sally's acting. Other then that I loved all the actors surprising enough. I thought I would hate the acting, or see it as its biggest flaw, but I was shocked on how well everyone acted. Even Malin. And Rorschach was done perfect to a T. He was the stand out.

4. Hehe I'll add four. I did not mind the new ending, but the way it was put together to me felt harder to follow then the squid ending. I gave it a full chance, it was not bad by any means, but the squid should have remained. I want to see the DC.

-Final half hour felt a bit rushed (I'm sure the director's cut will remedy this)
-No final talk between Jon and Veidt
-No mention of Kitty Genovese, which I felt was important in Rorschach's backstory (again, perhaps this may be on the director's cut)

All of them were minor disappointments.

I wish Adrian would have had a line dealing with Bubastis. I'm positive this will be corrected in the Director's Cut, but I can only imagine how confused those people who haven't read the comic must have been.

1. the sex scenes. seriously wtf?

2. the music again wtf?

3. WTF IS THIS ****!?!?!??!

i can honestly say i enjoyed the spirit more

if you have read the spirit comics you know that they are whimsical and silly as was the movie and thats why I enjoyed it.

Watchmen is pretty damn sombre and the movie was well.... comedic... Rorschach was really the only redeeming factor. I have decided to buy the motion comic and deny existence of this film.

Have you even read the GN?

Movie's only been out a few hours and there is already a "disappointment thread." Ah, SHH. Really.

 :oldrazz:

1. Lack of squid. NOW, don't go apes*** on me, I thought the ending was great but having the squid could of made the ending just a little bit cooler.

2. No Bernie scenes. I think it would have made the ending a bit more emotional when Bernie grabs onto the other Bernie.

3. It ended.

Nothing wrong with the sex scene. The music perfectly fit the period, it's not the films fault that you ahve bad taste in music. And if that's as well as you can express your opinion for number three, you're probably not bright enough to have even read and understood the graphic novel. Go back to AIM.

Don't pay any attention to someone with an underscore in their username.

1. Laurie/Silk im sorry she cant act. her best acting is the sex scenes. :csad:

2. Sex scene could have been cut. Wasnt worth rushing the end and cutting out Hollis's death just to have a 2 second laugh.

3. The music ruined moments/dialogues too many times. Rorschach death for one

Other than that. GREAT STUFF.

I didn't have any real problems with the movie, it was quite good, and no big gripes with it, more curious about a couple things though, that's about it.

- Like the killing of the first Nite Owl, I guess that scene was cut, was looking forward to seeing that after seeing it in that Japanese tv spot.

- Rorschach killing that child kidnapper was freaking gruesome, yeeesh. Did that work better for the character? (What do you think?)

- The ending did feel a bit rushed, like when Veidt first begins explaining to Dan and Rorschach about his plan, it's all of a sudden *whoosh* flashback to showing Veidt lifting the Comedian and tossing him out the window. I thought we'd have a more suspenseful recap then that quick shot of him.

- The second sex scene went on for too long, it felt like a porno, *whistle* Not that I'm really complaining but pfft, I mean I was sitting next to people you know, and had popcorn in my lap. Ahem.

I honestly think setting someone on fire is more disturbing than a swift shot to the head with a meat cleaver. That guy was dead with the first blow, where with the fire, he would have lived for at least a minute or so, feeling his nerves being burned off, smelling his own burning flesh. I think they went with the one with lesser gruesomeness, myself.

I really wish they would have used Jeff Buckley's hallelujah.

They did. Which is the first disappointment with the film. Overtly comical sex scenes. Tons of them.

Big blue weiner.

It ruined the feelings I got when I read the novel.

1- Laurie was a pretty empty character. I didn't feel that she resented being (or that she even was) rushed into vigilantism by her mother, or her animosity towards Rorschach (sometimes it felt like she liked him).
2- Rorschach was poorly developed in the first half, so when he was apprehended, I didn't feel anything as close as I felt in the book.
3- Veidt was shown as possible bad guy very early in the film. He was shown too concerned for fixing the world, expressed how he didn't relate to no one alive, and during his assasination attemp, he take cover in the other guys in the room.

Bonus track: this is minor, but it hurt
4- Juspeczyk, that name I didn't hear it once. Rorschach called Laurie "Jupiter" and she didn't care at all. I like that little detail in the book, how Sally changed her name, it said a lot about her, and the time she lived in.
