Not to intrude on Terry, but thought I'd make an opposite thread. I'd like something cheerful on my birthday . Talk about that one great teacher who inspired you the most, who seemed to know what he/she was doing, or was just nice to you.

Mr. Spencer: My 6th grade teacher. I was the envy of the school being in his class, he was the coolest teacher. He taught us about the rainforest and ancient egypt, let us turn our hallway into a rainforest and an egyptian tomb, make stock trading fun, intodruced me to greek myths, brought his puppy to school a few times, and had the class mummify a chicken (it was already dead). He passed away a few years ago, and I'm sorry I didn't go to the visitation. A really cool guy.

I would probably have to say my most influential teacher I've ever had was Mr. Goodman, my senior year government teacher in high school.

He was an outspoken Republican, and I was raised by two very strong Democrats. I had a lot of Democratic ideals, and was very outspoken with them. Myself, and one other girl in class were always speaking out in debate against the teacher, and he'd always (playfully) give us a bad time about our beliefs.

But really, what was more important to him was challenging our beliefs, so that we could be stronger in them. He always encouraged us to speak our beliefs, and to back up our statements. He helped to solidify a lot of my political ideals on the left, as well as give me insight to the right, where I realized that Republicans and conservatives weren't just some horrible evil conglomerate like my parents would make them out to be.

A lot of my political ideals now stem from that semester I had with him. To this day he remains the most influential teacher I have had at any level.

Doctor Britchford. An english professor at my second college. Wonderfully absurd and quite smart.

I had a History teacher who spent half a year teaching us about the JFK assassination and all the relevant conspiracy stuff. We made little Dealy Plaza dioramas. He used to throw things at students who talked. Books, pencils, styrofoam cups of hot coffee...if you were an ******* in class, he took students out to the woods and told them exactly what he thought of their social standing, mothers, etc. He was fantastic.

My sophore AP Euro teacher was great. He knew all of these random stories that related to historical figures we went over. He also showed us really good documentaries and would pause them and give his own commentary on them. He retired after that school year and I would have had him in one of my classes the next year. He wrote me a recommendation for college.

My junior English teacher was really good too. I actually started to understand the deeper meaning in books with him.

My senior English teacher was also good. I thought I'd hate him b/c he coached lacrosse and knew a lot of the idiots in the class. Turns out he had no problem calling them out when they pulled **** with him. We also covered a lot of interesting stuff and watched good movies like American History X and Shawshank Redemption. I also got a lot of A's which was nice.

My drama teacher changed my life, and continues to. Mentor in the hIzOUseE!

My Law Studies teacher. He was absolutely hilarious (reminded me a lot of Dennis Miller). He didn't really care too much if you slept in class and he had the tendency to go off into these random conversations which ranged from a discussion on last night's Family Guy to the best way to kill a person (I once woke up in the middle of class and the first thing I heard was "Well, I guess I'd use a billiard ball in a sock so it wouldn't leave any bruises.")

My Political Science teacher, Kurt Bills. He was awesome, full of great stories. He once drop kicked a heater because bees were in it.
He's now a city council member.
:D
