Your Favourite / Best Christmas Song ?

I miss Christmas songs already.

And I’m not gonna lie, I get teary at I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.

Knowing the story behind the lyrics and what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was going through when he wrote the poem that would become the Christmas carol just wrecks me and gives truer meaning to the lines “then rang the bells more loud and deep. God is not dead nor doth he sleep. The wrong shall fail the right prevail, with peace on earth good will to men.”

Christmas is my favorite time of year - I adore everything about it. The church sermons, decorations, TV specials, interesting food...and especially the music. I can't pick just one song, but some of my favorite musicians who have recorded Christmas songs are Harry Connick Jr., Darius Rucker, and Randy Travis. Rascal Flatts even released an album like this a few years ago, and I love it.

Holy gravy I ate to much for two days straight, time to move ahead ....

Already listed some favorites, I'll add a few more, (for now)

Eagles version rocks too.

Story of Silent Night 1818

Charming "Villancico" - a Spanish poetic and musical form that was popular from the late 15th to 18th century. In the 20th century, the term more commonly means "Christmas carol." Today, in Spanish-speaking countries the singing of villancicos is a favorite form of musical expression during Advent and Nativity.

Set in Peru children's different costume styles represent central Peru and Bolivia highlands, northern influence; Ecuador and Colombia, and southern; Chile, Argentina, all together.

My two favorite Christmas carols are "This Christmas" and "Carol of the Bells." I love the many renditions of them both. I like most Christmas songs; I never mind hearing them all over town while out and about.

I like Trans Siberia Orchestra for a heavy X-mas vibe

and Apricot for a rocking Chrimbus vibe

Twisted Sister for a non-traditional metal Chrimmus

Bob and Doug McKenzie for a fun Canadian Yule

What's become one the more controversial xmas season songs, and the rarely referenced second half.
The original Academy Award winning: Baby, It's Cold Outside by Esther Williams & Ricardo Montalbán + Betty Garrett & Red Skelton.

Revisited by Lady Gaga & J Gordon-Levitt

The song tells of the narrator hearing Christmas bells during the American Civil War, but despairing that "hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men". After much anguish and despondency the carol concludes with the bells ringing out with resolution that "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep" and that there will ultimately be "peace on earth, good will to men".
Terrific song, and powerful history.
Any particular version you prefer, many greats, to more contemporary have covered it?

Johnny Cash has a very good rendition that used to be my favorite. But now, if I had to only pick one, Casting Crowns really revitalized it with a very powerful version recently (as you point out.)

How about you?
