Charming "Villancico" - a Spanish poetic and musical form that was popular from the late 15th to 18th century. In the 20th century, the term more commonly means "Christmas carol." Today, in Spanish-speaking countries the singing of villancicos is a favorite form of musical expression during Advent and Nativity.
I miss Christmas songs already.
And I’m not gonna lie, I get teary at I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.
Knowing the story behind the lyrics and what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was going through when he wrote the poem that would become the Christmas carol just wrecks me and gives truer meaning to the lines “then rang the bells more loud and deep. God is not dead nor doth he sleep. The wrong shall fail the right prevail, with peace on earth good will to men.”
Terrific song, and powerful history.wiki said:The song tells of the narrator hearing Christmas bells during the American Civil War, but despairing that "hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men". After much anguish and despondency the carol concludes with the bells ringing out with resolution that "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep" and that there will ultimately be "peace on earth, good will to men".
Terrific song, and powerful history.
