I posted this here because this doesn't just concern one of the films; it really concerns all three. What was your major beef with the films? What did you dislike the most? Who or what do you think was badly portrayed in the movies, or what do you think they could/should have done to change them/it or make them/it better?

My major beef with the movies was they way they kept killing people off. In the cartoons and the comics, people were rarely killed. Okay, yes, there was Scott's father and a number of other people that died - but it was only a secondary and occasional happening. For the most part, people just got thrashed and came back later on.

For one thing, there's Professor X: Near the end of the series (what I call the original one, though I know it wasn't), Professor X was handed over to the Shinarens or whatever they're called because the X-Men didn't have the technology to keep him alive after the attack on him on national television. You know, where people realized he really was a mutant himself? Anyway, in the movies, he's essentially killed off and then resurrected because he transfers his consciousness to a man who previously didn't have one. Now, that's all good and well - but it's a major discrepancy. I do understand that they couldn't just bring in aliens on top of everything else in X3, but that's a huge one.

Then there's Scott: He's THE major player throughout the X-Men comics and shows. He dies at the hands of the Phoenix, which means they don't have him for the entire third movie. Now, that completely changes the face of the X-Men and puts Ororo in charge. While this is a great plot twist, I really wish they hadn't taken him off. Scott Summers is one of the characters that I would consider my favorite. Bobby Drake is another, and Jubilee, and a few otherss, but that's besides the point.

Now, the Phoenix I didn't have too much of a beef with because she did go away in the shows that I remember. The way they did her in X3 was good - her attempted affair with Wolverine, her joining with Magneto, and the final scene in which Wolverine was forced to kill her.

But let's recap: Cyclops and Jean Grey, two MAJOR characters, both dead. Professor X in someone else's body. Storm in charge of the school.

Plus, Wolverine didn't seem the pissed-off son-of-a-***** that he's supposed to be through the movies. He came across as a sad loner who became a co-teacher and helped to run the school. Okay, yeah, so the way things ended kind of left it open. But I still think they could've made Wolvie more comic-friendly, y'know?

Now, don't get me wrong: I loved the movies. But there were just some things I think they should've done very differently.

Anyway, what about you guys and gals? What didn't you like about the movies?

My beef:

1. Pyro was a disgrace. He wasn't Australian, and not near as crazy as the comic version.

2.
I hated the way Beast was portrayed. Henry McCoy is one big mu'fugger. They basically just slapped some fur and makeup on Kelsey Grammar and said to hell with it.

3.
Nightcrawler should have been in X-Men 3.

4. I would've liked to see Sabretooth again as well. I mean, after all, he did fall off of the Statue of Liberty--yet he also has a healing factor like Wolverine. I was surprised when he didn't make a comeback.

5. Angel should have had more screen time in X-Men 3, perhaps even a battle scene. They made him seem like some insecure wuss.

That's all I can think of for now. I'll probably be posting more eventually.:woot:

LOL Yeah, I agree with you on some stuff. I never really liked the comic Pyro as compared to the movie Pyro - the movies made him more real, I think - but yeah, it does kinda hurt when they change people up. :/ Like Bobby was supposed to be this girl-loving, mischief-making guy that people had to keep their daughters away from. In the movie, he was kind of - mellow. Okay, so he was a bit of a Romeo in certain parts - like right at the start, when he introduced himself to Rogue - but come on. He was nothing like I remember him from the comics and the shows.

Then there's Pyro: I don't think they should have changed who played him in the second and third movies. The first guy they used, whom only played a cameo role in the above-mentioned scene, looked more like the crazy comic book Pyro in appearance - tall, skinny, kind of bullyish-looking. But although I liked the look of the guy they used in the second and third movies, he was more the show-offy bully type. Actually, he reminded me of Bobby Drake from the comics - except that Bobby was a good guy, of course.

And yeah, I was kinda stunned by the lack of Nightcrawler's presence in the third movie. I mean, wtf happened to him?! He just disappeared after meeting up with the X-Men? That doesn't make sense.

And yeah, Angel needed more screen time - and more of a backbone.

Then there's Beast and Colossus: Beast, I agree with you on. I don't think he should have been a giant or anything, but he definitely needed a lot more muscle. The costume was okay, though it didn't fit with the comic-style Beast. As for Colossus, I feel the same way about him that you do about Beast. Plus, where's the Russian accent? I understand not saying anything about Ilyana, his little sister, but they should have at least made him learn to speak with a Russian accent! And he definitely needed to be bigger, no matter how tall he was - because that's all he really had going for him insofar as the physique was concerned (not counting his cool steel-skin costume): he was tall. Not powerful, not even muscular: just tall and athletic.

Yeah, I agree with you. I almost forgot about the small cameo Pyro had in the first movie.

As for Iceman, he could have definitely been more mischievous and comedic, like he's portrayed in the comics. I also would've liked to see him use the ice slide, but maybe we'll see that in the next film. And I don't know if it was bad acting, or what......but he had no personality.

Regarding Colossus, I really don't remember his dialogue, or what he sounded like, although I do remember him looking foreign. That is, however, messed up that they didn't give him a Russian accent, or a more stately build. I did like how his exoskeleton looked though, it was damn cool.

I don't think it would've made sense for Iceman to have his 'ice slide' just yet, since he was really only slightly skilled with his powers. I mean yeah, sure - he had some talents with like making the rose and stuff. But I don't think he was quite the action hero he would become just yet.

As for Colossus, I heard him speak twice: both times were in the second movie. He was carrying a TV when Bobby asked him where Rogue was and he said he hadn't seen her, and then he said (and I quote): "I can help you." He said that when the school was attacked. Actually, I think the first time he spoke was in the first movie...but it might've been in the second. Can't remember. Anywho, he had a deep voice, but he didn't sound Russian at all. I didn't think he did, anyway.

My major beef is that Singer doesn't understand the X-Men, he didn't read the comics and he doiesn't understand the mythology. He took the job because, like all his films, he explores people feeling like outcasts and searching for their place in the world. While that is a theme in the X-Men world, he doesn't understand the core of the characters. Just like Superman Returns, he knew little about the character and simply used Superman to explore his own feelings of isolation.

He doesn't know what a hero is, and doesn't know why we love a hero.

What is my beef?

All they did was take liberites from the comics and they didn't focus on every main character equally. Enough said. :o

mine was, like many of us, that there was no gambit, he got scrapped from the first cuz they felt his powers looked too close like cyclops and his peronality was like wolverines, got scrapped from the second one and well i dont mind that they gave nightcrawler more screen time but they even cut his cameo that was filmed, and was cut from the third one cuz they already had too many others in there and didnt know how to use him, i mean if spider-man 3 could have venom, y couldnt they find away to fit gambit in the movies, and well venom was miss used in spidey 3, but hey atleast they put him in there

I say you about summed it all up for me.

I didn't have a problem with the films, per se, I just had a problem with X-Men 3, which raped the preceding films and the source material.

By the way, topic creator, you've got your Professor Xavier history seriously messed up.

Misuse of the Rogue character really. I thought they were taking their time to develop her into the girl we knew, and it looked like it was heading that way with the white streak, and the stronger personality in X2... but they went backwards in X3 and messed her up.

Wolverine.

Not only was he light years away from his comics persona, but they constantly focused on him until the franchise became ABOUT Wolverine with the rest of the X-Men as expendable supporting cast.

When I realized the X-Men movies were just about Wolverine, it totally ruined the franchise for me.

100% agreed.

She was ridiculously underused and badly-written in the X3;
  • her powers could have been used more effectively in the Danger Room sequence
  • show more of her struggle in deciding whether to accept the cure, a scene would have helped inside the clinic with this (could have been a moving, and memorable scene)
  • and have her arrive in time at the final battle, proving she's undergone a journey and come through a wiser, more confident person. :)

You guys have made some awesome well thought out points, don't feel a need to go any deeper than you have so here's a sorta superficial one: my one major beef with the movies was Rogue's appearance.

I understand how some things get lost in movie adaptations of comics, but I did not like scrawny teenage Rogue at all. I was looking for the big buxom Southern belle that had a sharp wit, and was always 2 steps from whoopin on anyone who didn't know how to treat a lady like a lady! I like Anna Paquin, but for this movie I was hoping for someone older, with much, much bigger hair

I agree with your thoughts on Rogue. I wished we could have seen that Southern belle with a major accent and big hair too! It was just weird having the teenager instead of the grown up woman!

my big issue was that it's like they just threw all the comics out and just took a few basic ideas. and yes, I know you can't take 60+ years of comics and put it in a movie, but this was a bit much.

most the ages were off, some good guys were bad guys, some bad guys were good guys, some mutants had the wrong powers. the worst of which was beast and mystique turning into a human form with the loss of their power (so, what, beasts powers is blue fur??)

the bad guys didn't seem nearly as evil as they should be, this may be in part due to my LOTR obsession and seeing McKellan as a kind old wizard and not as magneto, but even so, magneto didn't seem angry enough.

also they seemed to try and just put as many characters as they could in there, which was awesome to see some of my fav characters on screen, but they didnt have enough time to focus on them all. especially in 3, where each member got to show off their powers once, then they were done.

i just wish with all the stories in the comics throughout the years they coudlve at least taken something from them aside from a name and a power. don't get me wrong, i liked the movies (well, x3 kinda sucked), but i like to say they were good movies, just not good X-MEN movies, if that makes any sense.

i had a little hope for an "age of apocalypse" film in X3 (danger room) but then all hope went away and i just got angry

i'm still a bit angry for that! it's an insult to put only a head of a sentinel

:cmad::cmad::cmad:

-Too much Wolverine, at the expense of all the other characters. Does he really need his own movie at this point? How about trying a movie that focuses on the students?

-Not enough Cyclops. Killing him off didn't ruin X3 for me, but IMO not coming up with anything for him was another sign that this movie was rushed.

-Needed more Kitty and Colossus in X3

You think Anna Paquin is scrawny? Lol, that's a switch from the complaints I usually hear about her. I always thought she was a beautiful girl who had all the right curves. :oldrazz:
