The Dark Knight Rises arrives in Theaters next July. From what little pics we've seen so far, casting news, and other info we've gathered, what is your opinion on the movie at the moment? Optimistic? Pessimistic? Neutral?
I personally am both optimistic and pessimistic.
Pros:
-I am excited to see how Nolan wraps up his Batman trilogy. He said in an interview once (I don't have the link, sorry) that he and his staff are working on making this Batman as "epic as possible"
-There is a rumor that Bane wants to do Batman's job better than him. He sees Gotham as a prize. This sounds like a very intriguing premise. I hope this rumor is true.
-Bane possibly being a mirror to Bruce Wayne. This sounds very interesting.
-I loved Tom Hardy and Joesph Gordon-Levitt in Inception (though the movie itself failed to meet my very high expectations) So their inclusion in the TDKR is great news.
-If Nolan does have Bane "Break the bat" in this film, then Bats final battle with Bane at the end of the film should be a very exciting scene.
Cons:
-I know it's in my signature already, but. Anne Hathaway. She just annoys the heck out of me. I've never found her to be that good of an actress. I think Marion Cotillard would've been a much better choice for the role. She has the Catwoman look to her (short black hair. I don't care if an actress is "sexy" in the role, I just want her to LOOK the part, and Marion definitely does, IMHO) she also seems to be in the age range Catwoman should be.
Another thing that bugs me about Hathaway's inclusion is I'm so used to seeing her everywhere. I see her on Late Night talk shows, Oscar Red Carpets, Interviews, Movies, Magazine covers. She's everywhere. So when she is onscreen, I won't be able to believe she is Selina Kyle/Catwoman. I will just be seeing Anne Hathaway.
-This one worries me even moreso than Hathaway's inclusion in the film. The emphasis on studio-shooting. TDK looked gorgeous because (pretty much) everything was real. There was very little studio-shooting, except maybe in the interrogation scene, Gambol's death scene, and the makeshift Batcave.
Apart from the Iceland stuff, the filming of Batman Begins relied heavily on studios, and while I did enjoy Batman Begins very much when I first saw it in 2005, looking back on it now and comparing it to TDK, some of it looks very.. cheap. There's a few CGI exterior shots (When the inmates are freed, there's an overhead shot of the city, and it just looks awful. Very bad CGI.) So does the scene when Batman has Flass hanging upside-down, the scene when Batman crawls away from Scarecrow after getting gassed and calls for Alfred. The monorail explosion at the end. I don't want to see a bunch of CGI'd exterior shots, and I don't want to see a bunch of sets either. I'd like this to be filmed on-location like TDK was.
-I heard that James Newton Howard will not be involved in the Soundtrack. Hans is a talented composer, no doubt about that, but what made TDK have such an excellent sound was their collaboration together. I hope his omission from the soundtrack won't have a negative impact on the score.
-Lastly, this is more of a small nitpick than a real concern, but Bane's arms looked a little tiny in that pic from the Official Site. Bane should look ripped. His arms should be HUGE.
