When you were younger did you not have any interest in the music your parents listened to, but then when you got older you end up liking it yourself?

well im not really "older" yet but my dad listened to johnny cash when i was younger and in the current times and now i love johnny's music so i guess i did grow to like my dads music. except he likes bluegrass. i dont.

My mom loves Anita Baker. When I was younger I didn't really care for her, but now I got a chance to listen to her music and now I like it.

i have no idea what my mother listens to. she switches between country and pop raido stations.

As a child, I regularly listened to a station my parents liked, which played alot of songs from the 60's, and 70's, However, I typically find myself today listening, and enjoying, a number of songs from the 1970's.

60's as well, but not nearly as much as the 70's.

My dad mostly listened The Beatles, John Denver, The Who, and Elton John. (my mom didn't listen to much of anything) The Beatles I loved and still do, (my favorite band) The Who and Elton John have some good stuff, but I don't have any of their albums.

My mom is one of those people who'll listen to whatever's current. That means when I was very little in the 80s, my mom played a lot of Cameo, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Whodini. During the bulk of my childhood in the 90s, she played MC Hammer, Digital Underground, Tupac, Notorious BIG, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, and En Vogue. These days, she finds herself listening to a lot of Keyshia Cole, 50 Cent, and Gucci Mane.

I was with her right up until the 2000s. She thinks Lupe Fiasco sucks. :cmad:

Your mom like Gucci Mane?

Parliament Funkadelic and most Soul and R&B, and a majority of early 90s rap and hip-hop that my mom would play I've grown up on myself as well.

Frank Sinatra, and Andrea Bocelli

Love them.

haha no i did not listen to my parent's music! sometimes i think they're robots, i haven't heard them really listen to music in a while.

I liked the music my Dad listen to.
I'm more into those bands now then he is I think. He's pretty far out of the loop I think.
His collection of music was pretty diverse; Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Otis Redding, Iron Butterfly.....and so on.

From my dad I gained a love for 50/60's rock and roll, Doo-wop, and Neil Diamond. I loved it as a kid and still now.
He also taught me how the Beatles killed rock and roll, to which I agree.

My musical tastes are a mix of my parent's stylistically, and many times I enjoy the same bands and artists they do (or did in the case of my Dad, now he's into opera).

Not exactly. See, my mom was always a huge Stevie Wonder fan & my pop worshipped the Temptations. Now I've always liked Stevie & was cool w/the temps, but I got so sick of my father talking about them that I just pretended not to like them until I got older.

Well, my parents always listened to the Beatles, Eagles, and what not. Basically, they liked the stuff that is still cool to like today...so I got lucky. :D

A lot of my old mans fave band happen to be mine now, Led Zep, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Split Enz.

My dad grew up on Motown, Soul, Disco, and Funk. When I was a kid, I couldn't stand him listening to the oldies and Tom Joyner, but as I got older, I started to embrace the music, and now, I LOVE oldies. If I had no choice but to listen to it all, particularly Disco, I wouldn't mind. My dad was also one of those dads that listened and enjoyed what was modern. He loved the 80's and 90's R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul, and some of the contemporary pop (particularly Prince, Michael Jackson, and Phil Collins). I, of course, love all of that as well. I'd say Al Green is his favorite musician.

Then we got my mom. When she was in Korea, she enjoyed some of the more popular American music that went worldwide (ABBA), but when she came to America in the 80's, she was all for Glam Rock (huge Whitesnake and Mötley Crüe fan), 80's Pop (huge Prince, Billy Idol, and Cyndi Lauper fan), and 90's R&B (Keith Sweat, Boyz II Men). She also started to love the oldies because of my dad, too.

So yeah, my parents' tastes in music is so diverse that if I were ignorant enough to limit myself to only one or two genres of music (like alot of people out there do for reasons that defy logic), I'd be a damn fool.

my father was into bands like the eagles, queen, supertramp, etc

That's good stuff right there. I'm a big Curtis Mayfield guy.

My dad brought me up on Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Dire Straits, and best of all, R.E.M. I'm glad he did.

This thread won't start until The Chairman arrives.

My dad made me a fan of The Beatles and tons of other great music from the second I was born. And thank God he did. Now I'm able to tell other simpletons my age how stupid they really are.
