So, I should probably start off by saying I was in an accident today. I also suppose it'll take some explaining to get readers up to speed. It was around 4:26 PM and our family car was at a red light just waiting. I remember turning around for no reason outside of just wanting to see who was behind us and saw a lady in a red Passat. The odd thing about it was that she wasn't stopping. What was even moreso odd was that the warning (friutless anyways, in hindsight) wouldn't jump out of my throat. So, short story shorter, our fender got a healthy dent in it. My mother was the first out of the car, in shock. I was second, and if my father stayed in the car I probably would have worked on my first impulse: to break some legs. I'm first to admit I'm hot-headed when it comes to my family's safety.

Then things just escalated. As we went to trade insurance info and whatnot, my mother just went hysterical with anger and offense. "21 years driving, and this has never happened to me." I don't know...I remember initially being pretty mad, but after having to console her I brought up that it could have been worse- we could have been hit or killed; in this case, it was literally only a fender bender. I was even jovial and got her to release some of her less-than-kind phrases for the lady. My father stayed calm and brushed off the matter all the way through. In the end, we ended up filing a police report. We won't be going on vacation this year, but it could have been worse.

I'm aware that I could easily make this into a joke topic about how I'm going to sue the lady for damages, but I don't think that's remotely necessary. Yes, I've got pain in my muscles, but I have Parkinson's and the scenario most likely made it flare. Plus, it's an SUV. Instead, I wanted to ask a question: what's your reaction, if you've ever been in the scenario, to car accidents? Do you feel angry throughout, frustrated and then calm down, or never feel heated emotions over it at all?

I've never been in a car accident, I'm a careful driver and I've taken defensive driving courses. Never gotten a speeding ticket either.

Angry because most of them are caused by idiots :cmad: and are totally avoidable.

That's the same scenario with my mother. Hence why she's so furious- after all of her time in NYC, my father gets hit in his car and she gets hit in her own by people who weren't paying attention during our move to LV.

I think I do a good job of being myself- calm and dripping in sarcasm.

I loved the look the lady gave that hit me made when they realize that I'm really calling them a ****ty driver through my comments. And I also enjoyed the sound her car made as she backed up from my rear. Only a little scratch on my bumper but her front end was toast :woot:

I totaled my mercedez last summer and it was not my fault and a bunch ofother people got ****d over too :( :down :cmad:

I doubt you've got a Mercedes, especially since you can't even spell. Either that or you're an athlete.

His parents probably bought it for him, along with all his American Eagle attire, and 'Timbalands'.

Dont insult my parents, and best I got to in football was Division 1aa offers n scouting ****; which I couldn't use.

I was in a "small" accident not that long ago.....I was driving down a parking lot (actually pretty slow), and I notice a car's lights turn on and they start backing up.....I slam on my breaks and beep my horn...they are still backing up so I lay on my horn...the bastard was still backing up so I try to throw it into reverse and get out of the way but the prick "pushed" into me....in hindsight if I knew a honk wouldn't have gotten his attention I would have pushed hard on the gas around him......

Anyway I get out of the car and I look at the damage....front passenger side bumper pushed up a little....not too bad.....but still....I look over at the other car and guy starts pulling away....I run over and say hey...umm you hit me over here.....he gets out.....and the guy looked ancient.....so I get his insurance information and his driver's license and I look at his birthdate....1920...192-****ing-0....... the guy was 87 years old and still driving his car around.....the guy could barely see and his hearing is obviously shot b/c he didn't hear my horn......but he was driving a car.....

I ended up pushing the bumper back in place so you can't tell there was even any damage.....I complained about him to my insurance company...but they didn't care....I have heard so many stories about old drivers...there should be something in place where they tested on not only their driving skills but their hearing and vision....

I just find it hilarious that someone who supposedly owns a Mercedes can't even capitalize and punctuate.

No joke- I once saw an elderly driver hit a boy on his bike crossing the crosswalk while the light was still red, stay there the entire time as if nothing happened, and then calmly take off at a reasonable speed as if he never hit the kid. My best friend was friends with him and mentioned that there wasn't a single action taken on any party's behalf even after hearing a recount of the events.

I can if I feel like it. And I don't own one anymore. I now drive a land rover :o

If it's my fault, I get pretty pissed at myself,If they hit me,I don't get mad "Hey it's not my fault and I get monies!" Inconvient though.

I'd first be really angry, but then I'd cool down

it all really depends on the scale of the accident but i would say it pays to be calm in the moment, you can always react to it later on when you're on your tod.

I've only been in two accidents where filing a report was involved. One was when I was 17, I dropped a friend off at the hospital and was getting out of my parking space and misjudged how much room I had to clear the amblulance in front of me and "hit it" going less than 5 mph. Since it was an amblulance I went through the whole police report, the cop taking the information couldn't even tell where I hit the amblulance, eventually he saw some dust misplaced. With such minimal "damage" nothing happened to me in terms of tickets or anything. Fast forward 1-2 months, the insurance company calls and says everyone in the ambulance was injured and looking for payment and they're going to pay them and our rates are going to skyrocket, my parents and I were shocked, the police report stated that no one was injured and the damage was only misplaced dust and dirt! My parents promptly cancelled our insurance with that company.

Second accident wasn't my fault, I was out with some friends heading home from the bar (I was the designated driver that night). I was in a traffic jam on the highway because of two accidents ahead of me and behind, when I hear screeching tires, then a loud bang, another bang and finally a jolt and bang as my car got hit. Four car accident luckily my car only had minimal damage, being the last car hit. Never got the damage fixed though, wasn't worth it.

Wasn't pissed through either accident, I did get pissed when I found out the insurance company was going to lay down for the first accident though, since it was obviously an entirely bogus claim.

I've been in two major and one minor accident. All three times we were rear-ended by idiots and I was a passenger. The first was when I was a kid. The guy was doing 50 in a school zone. We were stopped at the crosswalk to let students go by. This guy was waving to a someone on the other side of the street, not paying attention. My mom saw him in the mirror and had the forethought to turn the wheel and press down hard on the brakes. He slammed us, pushing us so far that the police said, if my mom hadn't turned the wheel so our car turned, he would have pushed us into the kids crossing the street.

The second was a few years ago. We were stopped at a light, and so was the car behind us. All of a sudden, they hit. Best we can figure, she didn't want to be behind a car, so she tried to pull into the next lane, which was empty. She didn't judge the distance right and hit us.

The last time was at night. We were in the middle of turning onto a street when a drunk slammed into the rear side of our truck. He kept going like nothing happened, and spun us into the front of another car. The police ended up catching him a few miles away (it was easy because his front end was destroyed). Turns out he was joyriding in his brother's (or brother-in-law's) car. Their insurance tried to not pay saying the guy had stolen his brother's car, but our insurance company threatened to sue, so we got our money.
