Choose four heroes or villains that you think are the epitome of CBMs.

So here's my villain Rushmore:

Heath Ledger's Joker
Tom Hiddlesten's Loki
Ian McKellen's Magneto
Alfred Molina's Doc Ock

The fourth spot was a toss up between Molina, Hackman's Lex, or Brolin's Thanos.

Heroes:
Chris Reeve's Superman
Christian Bale's Batman
RDJ's Iron Man
Tobey MacGuire's Spider-Man

Okay the hero part isn't final. Cap and WW belong there somewhere.

Heroes (each one represents certain era in CBMs):

Christopher Reeve's Superman (early CBMs era)
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine (post B&R and till Nolan; I think he's more iconic than Tobey, despite having inferior films)
Christian Bale's Batman (Nolan)
RDJ's Iron Man (symbol of the MCU)

I'll try to go similar way in case of villains:

Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman (since we can't have two Jokers, Pfeiffer's Catwoman is the second most iconic CBM villain behind Nicholson of pre-00s era, imo)
Ian McKellen's Magneto (even though I prefer Fassbender in the role more, old Magneto is more recognizable)
Heath Ledger's Joker (obviously)
Loki (tough choice here between the purple potato and the villain icon of early MCU, but I'll go with a real face here)

Heroes

Bale's Batman
Reeve's Superman
RDJ's Iron Man
Evans' Captain America

Villains

Ledger's Joker
Pfeiffer's Catwoman
McKellen's Magneto
Hiddleston's Loki

Ian McKellen's Magneto (even though I prefer Fassbender in the role more, old Magneto is more recognizable)
Also, agree with this.

Villains
Ledger Joker
Fassbender Magneto
Hiddleston Loki
Brolin Thanos

Heroes
Reeve Superman
Jackman Wolverine
RDJ Iron Man
Gadot Wonder Woman

Part of me is thinking of replacing Bale's Batman with Gadot's Wonder Woman or Evans' Cap.

Heroes:

Reeve Superman (defining interpretation)
Bale Batman (the version in the best cbm of all time)
Jackman Wolverine (absolute ownership of a part)
RDJ Iron Man (kickstarted the MCU)

Villains

Ledger Joker (best version in best cbm of all time)
Brolin Thanos (cornerstone villain of MCU)
Molina Doc Ock (brilliant sympathetic villain performance)
McKellan Magneto (gravitas and empathy in a character that could be silly otherwise)

There you go.

Heroes:
Daredevil (Ben Affleck)
Green Lantern (Ryan Reynolds)
Catwoman (Halle Berry)
Captain America (Matt Salinger)

Villains:

Victor Von Doom (Tony Kebbell)
Malekith (Christopher Eccleston)
Enchantress (Cara Delevingne)
Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds)

ONLY KIDDING LOL

Heroes:
Batman (Christian Bale)
Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)
Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.)
Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley)

Villains:
The Joker (Heath Ledger)
Loki (Tom Hiddleston)
Magneto (Michael Fassbender)
Green Goblin (William Dafoe)

Heroes

Christopher Reeve's Superman
Robert Downey Junior's Iron Man
Chris Evans' Captain America
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine

Villains

Heath Ledger's Joker
Ian McKellen's Magneto
Josh Brolin's Thanos
Tom Hiddleston's Loki

That's tough to argue with. I might substitute Chris Evans' Cap for Gadot's WW - because although he's really grown into the role she was perfect from her first appearance.

Villain wise.....I feel like Hela deserves a spot there, sadly she only got one appearance but was a terrific villain - although I don't know who to remove (although Ledger's Joker is irreplacable).
Also, I feel like Terrence Stamp's General Zod is a contender for a spot.

Replace that last villain with Jeff Bridges as Obidiah Stane and you have my list.

I think Thanos can come in, but I have to wait until Avengers 4.

Heros
Bale's Batman
Reeve's Superman
Evans' Cap
Jackman's Wolverine

Villains
Ledger's Joker
Molina's Doc Ock
McKellan's Magneto
Hiddleston's Loki

I really liked Molina's Ock, but I think he's hurt by being in only one movie. Three on my list (Magneto, Loki, and Thanos) were major villains built up over multiple films. The exception is Ledger, but he was really one of a kind. He was so good and popular that he has to be on there. I just can't quite get Ock on there. He's in my second foursome.

Wow no RDJ huh? Is it because you're going by performances that truly emulated the character as they were in the source material?

I am going slightly unconventional:

Heroes:

Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Superman
Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America

Villains:

Heath Ledger as The Joker
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin
Josh Brolin as Thanos

I am sorry to many out there, but though not a movie, D'Onofrio's Kingpin trumps all other villain portrayals apart from the others in my list here.

Those are good lists and I think mine could look like that.

I can't wait to see D'Onofrio cement his status when I get started on season 3 this evening.

Sadly I only got to watch 2 episodes before going to work today :csad: I wish I could marathon it right this minute. But based on the 2 episodes I did see, oh yeah. He's cementing it.

Question that is related to the subject. At what point do we start considering Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool one of the finest of portrayals? I've only heard that he's been perfect and its made Deadpool a household name, but everyone including myself tends to leave him off these lists. I can't put my finger on it but why?

I guess a second question is, has this union made Deadpool iconic?

He deserves to be in the conversation. I'd personally hold him over Bale as Batman regarding portrayal, as while the TDKT was highly praised I don't think that was the quintessential Batman, while Reynolds feels perfect for the role and will make you wonder how anyone else can play the character after he's done.

I think part of why he has more trouble is because the nature of the Deadpool films are that they don't take themselves seriously, which I think to some small degree makes people see it as a less serious contender.
