NOT a list of what you consider the BEST Spidey comics ever, but your own personal favourites, for whatever reason. Mine are as follows....
3. The Amazing Spider-Man # 166, March 1977 (Len Wein & Ross Andru)
The Lizard and Stegron the Dinosaur Man in a battle to the death....with Spidey in the middle...and a dinosaur stampede across New York! In the snow as well! Perfectly told, imaginative superheroics. Wonderful art.
2. Marvel team-Up #67, March 1978 (Chris Claremont & John Byrne)
Technically a simple story, but extremely atmospheric. Kraven the Hunter has never been more menacing. There is a strong feel of the savagery and menace of the jungle that even Kraven's Last Hunt doesn't match.
Spidey is thrown into a genuinely dramatic, brutal, life-or-death situation. This issue is what makes Kraven one of my favourite supervillains.
1. The Spectacular Spider-Man #163 April 1990 (Gerry Conway & Sal Buscema)
"What?" you're thinking. Well, this issue showcase my favourite ever Spidey artist Sal Buscema, working on my favourite villain, the Hobgoblin, along with Carrion, another of my favourites. The perfect evil duo. It's dark and sinister, the villains are truly menacing and have Spidey at their mercy. It has dark drama in the relationship between the villains - Hobby is manipulating Carrion but knows he's playing with fire - and fantastic action. Great to see Spidey really up against the odds, and villains who are easily powerful and smart enough to defeat him. And what a cover as well-!
