Well, it looks like Watchmen the movie is a pretty near inevitability. So who would you like to see in the lead(s), Here are mine...

Nite Owl- Chris Noth
Dr Manhatten- Daniel Craig
Rorschach-Sam Rockwell
Laurie Juspeczyk- Evangeline Lilly
Ozymandias- Scott Caan
The Comedian- Danny Trejo
Sally Jupiter- Eva Marie Saint
Captain Metropolis- Nathan Fillion
Hooded Justice- Aidan Gillen
Younger Sally Jupiter- Shawnee Smith

Although seeing as how its gotta be a big money maker, they'll probably cast Tom Hanks like they did with the Da Vinci code, even though hes wrong for the role

How about Bruce Campbell as the Comedian and James Caviezel as Doctor Manhattan?

Rorschach: Tom Waits
Night Owl: Vincent D'Onofrio
Dr. Manhattan: Michael Rosenbaum
Laurie Juspeczyk: Jennifer Connelly
Ozymandias: Viggo Mortensen
The Comedian: Ian McShane

I can't decide on a solid cast right now, but what are the main scenes from the book that you guys are dying to see translated to the screen?

All of it. Lol.

No the major parts are the "I did it 28 minutes ago" scene which is pretty important, as well as the interlude with Hooded Justice and the comedian after what nearly happened to poor Sally Juspeczyk

Just to get my two favorite characters out of the way. I've been looking for a Watchmen thread.

These are my two ideal choices
Rorschach - John C. McGinley

The Comedian - Bruce Campbell

These guys can play either of the two roles in my opinion. House's Hugh Laurie

and Prison Break's Robert Knepper

William Fichtner. The FBI agent in Prison Break.

Michael T. Weiss

Juuust getting that out of my system. See what you guys think of these.

Rorschach's escape and interrogation. Very badass stuff.

Anyway

Nite Owl (Dan Dreiberg) - Jon Favreau

Silk Spectre (Laurie Juspeczyk) - Jennifer Connelly. I think she can pull off both the younger and older versions pretty well.

Now as for Ozymandias, I was going to say Neal McDonough but then realized it would be too obvious that he's the villain. Everyone would suspect him from the start. Maybe he can play Dr. Manhattan or a younger Captain Metropolis though.

For Ozymandias you would need someone somewhat innocent looking. Maybe even recognizable as an actor. Someone who looks like they can be trusted. I was thinking Matt Damon on this one but he's too young looking...Nah. This guy is supposed to be perfect in every way and he should be easily bought as a hero but around as old as the rest of the cast suggested...Brad Pitt. No-one will see it coming.

Very nice choice. Almost perfect. If only he was a little uglier.

S' nothing that some strategically applied make-up and a moodily lit set can't handle.

And actually being interested in snagging the part, Doug is working on perfecting Rorschach's creepily monotone voice ready to impress the casting director, too - a cross between Tom Waits gravelly, and Jeffrey Combs as The Question in DC's animated JLU show unnervingly emotionless.

That's the way I've always heard Walter's dulcet tones, leastways...

Very good casting there. :) Not sure I quite understand the choice of Jim Carrey for Nite Owl though.

Just thought of another good runner for Ozymandias. Val Kilmer.

Carrey has impressed me a lot with his dramatic work recently. I think he could give a surprisingly strong performance as Deilberg.

Val Kilmer would be good, but he would need to spend a lot of time in the gym. He needs to be able to catch a bullet after all. :cwink:

I like it.

Wizard did the whole cast in one issue, if anyone would like me to go fish that up, but they suggested Kilmer as Oz as well. I like Chris Noth as Nite-Owl also, and Savage, you've got some good choices comin' in.

I can dig it.

What if Michael Madsen was somehow cast as the Comedian? Would that work?

Veeery good casting choice right there. Thing is you gotta think about the flashback scenes too though. The young comedian is a very different person from the older one. That's the only reason I'm against Madsen. Just gotta think of guys that can pull off both the older and younger versions. There are a lot of flashbacks.

I have a feeling that the flashbacks will only be discussed, not shown.

God, I hope not. I liked that Watchmen was telling a story accross different time periods and not just one. It's a multi-period piece.

The flashbacks are shown. The Comedian is seen from his 40s to his 60s.

We actually see Eddie Blake from the time of his teens, in his Minutemen days.

Previous script drafts that I've seen by both David Hayter and Alex Tse have largely dispensed with the 1940's set Minutemen scenes, instead opting just to show flashbacks to the '60s and the inaugral meeting of... THE Watchmen (URGH! How I HATE that term to describe the actual name of a collective of costumed heroes, instead of The Crimebusters of the comic! No 'The' please, that's NOT what the title WATCHMEN refers to!)

I too think there's every chance that the finished movie might trim some of the flashback material for the sake of running time. As long as it retains a large chunk o' Dr Manhattan's backstory and, of course, Rorschach's (including the factual demise of Kitty Genovese, which is the whole reason why Walter Kovacs took up crimefighting and donned a mask fashioned from her unwanted dress in the first place!), then I'll be a happy WATCHMEN watcher!

Precisely. Time is one of the main themes. Plus, I don't really want a lot of "tell but not show", like I heard the V for Vendetta movie did.
