A lot of people would disagree with that statement, but after looking through some of his interviews and the amount of easter eggs in MOS and BVS, it doesn't seem like he's bluffing, or at least I don't think he is. On top of that, he's consistently talked about how much he adheres to the comic canon of the characters. What do you think?

Well being a comic book fan and understanding the characters you're adapting are two different things.

Primal just closed this thread.

Baton down the hatches on this thread :funny:

Am all for the discussion though.

For my two cents, for what it's worth, as a creative conceptual artist and visually motivated story teller he's in a league of his own amongst many of his peers, as a writer, character builder and thematic understanding of motivation for the how & why, less so.

Still love his DCEU contribution and films he's given us though.

The number of people who claim to like certain characters only to completely miss what said characters often represent and stand for is incredible. Zack is just one of them.

He understands them enough to construct and deconstruct simultaneously, which in turn means the geeks will get it because they want to debate and discuss it. Of all the cbm filmmakers that have come and gone trying to make superheroes or their stories as self-aware as possible in the modern landscape, he's been the one to take it to a whole another level.

I believe he does understand the characters.
It makes sense for how Superman was portrayed in MoS & BvS.
At that point in Batman's career, it makes sense for how he was portrayed.
What we saw was a Batman that had seen so much that he had lost his humanity.
Everything made sense regarding these characters.

He made them actual human beings. Not one-dimensional
comic book characters. I wish Diana walking away from humanity
would have never had a retcon. It should have been simply her once
again finding hope in humanity; which is a very human thing.

I think he understands these characters more than what
people give him credit for.

I'm 100% behind you there.

I’m sure he’s a big comic book fan (and I like when the guy in charge is one). But so are many of us here and that doesn’t mean we are film director material.

Directing a film and leading a film production are a MASSIVE undertaking, I know it completely knackered me out on my feature film. Having to oversee all the aspects of production utterly grueling and should never be undertaken without clear objectives, being a fan as iceman is saying isn't enough. I went in to my CBM clearly as a fan, a writer and then with my film making skills fine, but nothing prepares you for the day to day grind of seeing 'something through', but it's my biggest achievement of my life and one I will always cherish. Snyder, whether people are a fan or not, deserves respect for his effort, will and drive.

All he had to do is get someone he trusted to write the films. Being a big comic book fan doesn't mean you know how to tell comic book stories or even tell stories at all.

I said it from MoS. Zack is a visual genius, not a story teller.

I'm sure he likes looking at pretty pictures and comic books have many of them.

However, I don't believe he ever READ them or understood them when he tried to read a bubble or two

How did you get involved with that? Cool

I don't like this poem. It's uneven and the rhymes are poor.

I'm sure Snyder likes the purdy pictures in the funny books. But actually reading them? I have seen very little evidence.
