"Zeno Clash is an upcoming videogame developed by ACE Team; an independent game development studio located in Santiago, Chile. The game is an action / fighting adventure set in a punk fantasy world.

The story begins when Ghat (the protagonist of the game) is banished from his family. Ghat is one of Father-Mother’s dozens of children. Father-Mother is a hermaphrodite creature who is parent to a large clan that lives in the main city of the game's world. The reason for Ghat’s rebelliousness and expulsion is not clear."

On January 2009 Zeno Clash has been nominated finalist in the Independent Games Festival yearly competition, in the category of Excellence in Visual Art. Zeno Clash is one of the 5 games to be selected for this award, from a total of 226 participating titles in 2009's IGF."

Gameplay

Zeno Clash is a first-person shooter mixed with a fighting game. The gameplay has a strong focus on melee fighting that blends with ranged combat using exotic weapons."

Looks weird. Like Oblivion with weirder environments. Could be cool, though.

Yea I hope it has some zelda'ish Morrowind type of role playing adventure stuff to it and not just running round punching people in the face every 20 seconds.

Well, the game's finally been released and it looks like we're still the only two people interested, my friend. I saw you mentioned it in the Last Game Played thread. How was it? I have to wait another couple hours before I can play it because I'm at work.

Seems pretty polished, nice music, animations and pretty far out art style. The fighting mechanics seem to work pretty decent. Just started it but what I noticed that was pretty cool, the bird man hit me, knocked the set of guns out my hands and when I was fighting the other people he picked up my guns and started using them. I knocked them out his hands and started using them again, it's something pretty simple but it would be cool if more games used something like that. It does seem to be pretty linear, the level sizes are about the same as other source engine games.

Rock, paper shotgun had an early review up

Nice. Definitely a very weird-looking game. I can't wait to try it out when I get home.

I played it last night. The levels are really tiny and the guns suck, especially since I can barely see the reticle. But the fighting is really fun, if a little too hectic at times because you're stuck in 1st-person, making it extremely easy for people to sneak up on you. I got stuck on the first heavyweight guy in the first flashback before I stopped. That blunt sword thingamajig is incredibly slow and awkward to control.

I finished it yesterday.
It's about 4.5 hours long. Didn't really understand the ending, you learn about the father-mother creature but theres this weird guy in a rape-mask you learn nothing about, the story telling could use some work. I'm assuming it will be episodic content as the ending isn't really closure. The sword swinging is pretty easy, when the heavy NPC's charges, move out of his way, use mouse 2 and pull back for the more powerfull swing and time it so he doesn't block it, when he kneels down you can hold down the mouse button to bash him on the head which will take away a big chunk of the health bar. Personaly, I like the fact the guns are not so powerfull as it would take away the emphsis on melee. There are a few times you will be forced to use a gun but it's rare, like 2-3 times. The art direction is stunning. Theres a part on this river thing that's like something from a van gogh.
